This is why you don't shop at Best Buy

Oh check out the s**t I'm currently going through with these *****e bags

I got a tv from them a year ago and bought the 4 year warranty. So like almost two months ago, the sound went out. So I call em to see about getting a replacement, the told me they have to see if they can fix it first, and the next opening for an appointment was 3 weeks from then. So, I wait 3 weeks, guy come out. Checks the mute button, turns the volume up, turns it down, then says, yup, it's broke. This happens all the time. I gotta order a part. So, he orders it, a week goes by, they call me again, and say, okay, we got the part, now we gotta make another appointment to install it. 3....weeks.....later......he shows up. Installs the part....still doesn't work. He says, maybe there was something wrong with the replacement part. he's gonna have to order another one and install it. So, i'm pissed! I'm like, this s**t is obviously busted! Why don't you guys just give me a new tv? Then he's like, well, 45 days has to pass before we have to replace it. So we have to try and fix it before the 45 days is up. I'm like Dude! It's been almost two months now! The 45 days is up! So, I call the customer service people, they have me on hold for like an hour and finally tell me since they already ordered the part, I'm just gonna have to wait another week for it to come and supposedly they're gonna come install it as soon as it comes in. That was a week ago. No call telling me the part has come in. No call telling me when's the next time they're gonna come out. And there's nothing I can do but bend over and take it cuz it's all in the warranty.

this is why Best Buy should have went under and not Circuit City... Best Buy is the worst big box retailer around...

bought a computer, with a nice LCD monitor... the LCD screen went out, luckily I had there "warranty" as they like to put it... went there, and they looked at it, said it was "broken"... I was like "no ****"... they then said they would have to send it out to get it fixed....

Now, when I bought the screen and paid 100 for the warranty, the salesmen told me, that if it breaks, they give you a new one, no questions asked... of course, that wasn't the case...

I went 4 weeks untill it came back, then they said they would give me a new one, come in, it's a giant old style monitor, not a flatscreen... I was like "wtf"... they said since my screen was discountinued, they could only give me a screen of the same brand, or equal or lesser value... the closest flat screen was 50 more then i paid.... I said I would pay the difference... they of course said it didn't work that way...

called over the manager, and tore him a new one.... finally, he agreed to let me upgrade for 50 more dollars..

anyone who shops there for anything else besides cds, movies and games, is an idiot....

Circuit City always was great when it came to returns.... I bought a Xbox years ago for 300, bought a warranty, then the price drop happened... went back in, they gave me a 100 in store credit, put it towards more games...

Circuit City also pushed out a lot of their senior employees when they ditched the commission sales, because Best Buy was kicking their ass each year....the 3 or 4 times I went to a Circuit City I could never find anyone, as opposed to Best Buy (the one i go to) where its very easy to track someone down

I at times do side work working on computers and I had a small business contact me once to work on two of their computers. it took me a couple days, but i got it all done and only charged $300 for everything I did and parts. I gave the person the bill and she was shocked that I charged her $300. Then I showed her what Geek Squad would have charged for one pc and it was over $1000. Firedog was the same too and then she was fine with $300 for 2 machines.

Yeah, I've been looking online and I've come across quite a few horror stories. I'm officially never shopping there again. For anything.

Never had any issues buying anything large at Best Buy. You need to know how to wheel and deal and bargain though. Circuit City is no better than Best Buy. And Circuit City is back if anyone doesn't know it yet.

Back on the internet

Circuit City is back but online only so far. I haven't seen any new stores pop up. Not yet anyway.

There won't be....the company that is now running Circuit City.com is also the owner of TigerDirect.com....there will be no more "stores" for Circuit City

I think that's good though. I am constantly getting emails for deals on circuitcity.com.

Tiger Direct is opening a brick and mortar supposedly.

I've always been more partial to Best Buy over Circut City and never had any problems with Best Buy, although I've also never bought or would've had to use the warranty. The last thing I bought from them that broke was my surround sound system over the summer, but that was over 4 years old, so even if I did get the warranty I wouldn't be covered anymore.

Never buy a warranty for anything under $1000 according to consumer reports that my local news station did a report on. I love Best Buy and the one time I had a gripe about, I emailed their customer service and for my trouble they gave me a $50 gift card.

Circuit City also pushed out a lot of their senior employees when they ditched the commission sales, because Best Buy was kicking their ass each year....the 3 or 4 times I went to a Circuit City I could never find anyone, as opposed to Best Buy (the one i go to) where its very easy to track someone down

also, when they eliminated their low mark-up appliances...

I won't ***** if someone wants to spend the money, it's their cash and not my buisness. I won't lie tho, it does bother me a bit. Setting up a computer I can understand, so many icons and tabs, I can see someone getting overwhelmed. However, a PS3's setup is very user friendly. You use the directional pad to navigate the menu. Click the right word for the feature you want (like click "System update to update the system), then follow the instructions. You can spend half the consoles price for them to do it for you, or spend 5 mins looking over the menu, click a word, and follow the easy to follow instructions.

I should open my own business, and offer to setup PS3s for half the price Best Buy does. It's still a ripoff, but it's half the ripoff they're offering.

that is strange cause I got the 4 year warranty for my 27" toshiba tv i bought in i think 97. A few weeks after i got it, it was acting up. I kept hearing this high pitched tone coming from it weather the volume was regular or all the way down. I contacted BB and they told me to bring my set in and they would help me out. I had a Camaro at the time and was not looking forward to putting that huge box in or out of the back cargo area. I put the defective set in the passenger seat and drove over there. they went and brought out a brand new unit off the shelf and opened it up and took it out. they then took my set and put it in the box and took it in the back room. they helped me put my NEW set in the car and i took it back home. never had a problem with it even when i sold it to a co worker last fall for like 15 bucks when i got my current 32" LCD sony from sears.

At the Best Buy near my house, I know more about the products than they do. My dad went in once to ask about TiVo. He went to 2 employees talking to each other and started to ask for help. One of them turned around and said "In a minute, I'm in the middle of something." My dad was not very happy to put it lightly.

if you can't follow basic instructions and connect your ps3 to the internet you don't deserve to own one.

I only go to Best Buy for CD's and DVD's, and I guess video games. Walmart fails at stocking new releases and catalog titles.

They offer these services because too many people out there are too lazy to s*** themselves. Period. I work in sales for a cable company. We offer a service for $50 we will setup a wireless routerin a home, and for $5/month maintain the network. It never push the service, because it's pretty easy to do this yourself, but I have had customers who want it, so they don't have to mess with it. Same thing Best Buy is doing. As long as rich people are too damn lazy to do simple s*** themselves, companies like Best Buy are going to be willing to charge them to do it.

I once went into BB to get a movie and they couldn't even find the movie that THEIR system said they had.

As for Circuit City being better than Best Buy, Hogwash. That store was a mess and not organized at all. Not to mention the lack of employees.

You can be mad at Best Buy for a lot of things, but you gotta cut them some slack when it comes to missing the one copy of a DVD their system says they have. That's rarely their fault. Chances are that DVD was recently stolen, or another customer picked it up and put it down somewhere like the camera section. Nothing mucks up a store inventory like someone picking up a small item, but deciding they don't want it in a completely different part of the store.

Don't blame Best Buy for that. Blame the jerk who thought "Hey, maybe I should show this to my friend who's looking at cellphones."

Of course. I tend to do that myself. I'm just saying the employees that helped me that time had no idea wht they were doing{in fact they seemed to be more interested in talking to their friends than helping me}.
