This Ruined Almost the Entire Movie for Me

Spoiler

Seriously

Gwen giving Spider-Man a kiss. What the heck! Not really even so much that she gave, rather that he kissed her like it was no big deal. It was totally out of character.

I agree. It was one of the only three WTF moments in the movie I had a problem with. It was dumb, out of character, and only done to promote the whole usage of the black suit.

Big Spoiler!

Seriously!

Fine, I warned you!

I forgot to mention the fact he hit MJ. Ruined it for me. All I can think about Spidey now is as a woman beater.

This part wasn't really bad though. It was used to show how evil the symbiot was making him and gave him a moment of clarity. Plus, if you read the clone saga.....sigh....this isn't the first time it happens. Atleast this time was an unintentional.

Strange, because he hadn't connected with the black suit at that point.

Peter was caught up in the moment, and yes, being a dumbass. Guess what- HE'S FLAWED. MJ brought up later how it hurt her that he'd share "their kiss' with someone else (One of the extremely few moments when MJ had a valid point). Are you thinking Peter is supposed to be perfect in how he handles his relationships? Because that sure as hell hasn't happened in the comics.

What I mean is it brought him down a little instead of all happy like. Which we all know the black suit comes to Peter and is more accepted by him in his time of need.

No Peter is not perfect. But you really have to wonder if he's that dense that he would kiss another woman infront of his girlfriend, while knowing his girlfriends watching. And then planning to propose to her the following night? WTH?! It just wasn't believable to me. Noones that dumb.

I have to agree that Peter was out of character (even prior to the Symbiote bonding to him). I felt sorry for him in the previous movies and I didn't feel the same way this time around. This movie made Peter out to be very selfish. I certainly didn't like that. I couldn't empathize with him as much (though we're all selfish to a degree).

Perhaps, Raimi could have played up more of Flint Marko's (spelling?) background, the relationship he has with his daughter and parallel his experiences with Peter a bit more (both missing moved ones, both drunk on power, both having to deal with their own guilt about Uncle Ben dying). It's also too bad that we didn't fully get to appreciate the pain Eddie Brock endured when he was fired and lost his girlfriend to Peter. I'm guessing the amount of action and plot-lines in this movie forced Raimi to cram things together.

Other than these flaws, I liked the movie quite a bit. There was plenty of drama and the visual effects were stunning. The birth of Sandman and his meeting with Venom was cool to watch (though I didn't like that Sandman could fly through the air). I also enjoyed the flashbacks to the previous movies. I could also relate to Harry given his never-ending desire to please his father. I found it way cool when Peter mocked him for these feelings of not living up to Norman's standards. JJJ and Bruce Banner were hilarious. MJ was quite the screwed up girl (as usual). I don't think her character is strong enough to be in a relationship with Spiderman. She's too needy and Peter simply doesn't have the time. I'm going to also guess that, in the next movie, they break-up but remain friends (as MJ is still good for some friendly advice).

Well the thing about the arrogance and selfishness is, look at his life; last movie he made peace with his aunt about Uncle Ben thus things are good, MJ finally knows the secret and they're close and in love, according to the opening dialogue he able to balance his studies with crime fighting now and finally he's not a "meanace" he's a hero and is actively celebrated. I mean look dude, now they loved Pete the way real live comic fans love him. He finally felt like he was making a difference and having people realize it.

So what does this mean? Well he's arrogant and having fun and he's trying to play it up to the crowd. He says kiss me, but he really should of said "Hey gimme a peck on the cheek, it'll be great! The crowd wants it!" But he obviously went to far. He probably rationalized it in a way that another poster mentioed: "Well, MJ acts and probably has to kiss people for a role, I'm just acting as Spider-man and that kiss doesn't mean anything"

I think it was a totally stupid move, but I don't think it was blazingly out of character.

AGreed. One thing is to make a mistake, another one is to be a complete idiot. You don't consent to kiss a girl on tv while your fiancee is somewhere watching. Not to mention that Gwen could have unmasked him easily.
