Thomas Jane pulls out of Punisher 2!!!!!!

There's a lesson in this: any franchise can be sent into development hell, regardless of effort and progress.

Tom Jane will always be punisher to me. No matter what.

This is awful! When I tell my brother this, he'll be in a huge depression. He is a HUGE Punisher fan. :(

Well I'm going to go drown my sorrows in a 12 pack and the extended cut DVD.

Let's all look at the plus side of this. Lionsgate wanted to make a ****ty sequel, with a rushed script with ANY director who would make the ****ty movie they wanted. No director wants to do it and the star of the movie is pulling out because he thinks it'll suck.

Either Lionsgate will wake up or at the very elast, we'll all be spared the dissappointment.

Who makes Thomas Jane feel like he can't put his best effort on a movie he doesn't believe in and that Frank Castle doesn't get the treatment he deserves?! Must be A.A.

That sucks... he was the only good thing about the movie...

That genuinely sucks. I don't want anyone but Jane. He really commited to the role, was terrific to the fans, and one of the only Marvel Movie stars I have met. He made it a point to interact with and talk to the fans. And why not?...He had one of the coolest characters to play. I'm really disapointed.
Hopefully what this means is that Lion's Gate will get rid of the property, a better studio will pick it up, a better script will come along.....and Jane will come back....I'm going to keep hope alive.

I've written this elsewhere, but I feel it should be heard here as well.

I think I'm going to be sick.

I dont even know where to start over this bull$#!), or who to fling it at? I'm so disgusted over how the sequel's been handled I dont think I can even stomach watching it at this point. Instead of P2 being the the movie we've all been waiting for, by the actor who knows and loves this character, we now get a flashy sequel probably starring someone like Dominic Purcell, going toe to toe with farking Chuck Lidell as Jigsaw's mongoloid brother (as been rumored over here)... this movie just became Robocop 3 in a matter of seconds. All we're missing now is that dandy PG-13 rating.

I just dont understand, I've met most of the folks involved in the first film, and I'm just at a loss over how the could drop the ball so badly with this?

Tom Jane is Frank Castle, 'Nuff Said.

I guess the rest of the world will get a new version of the same ol ****. Well, I aint watching. Count me out.

Tom knows Adam from Punisher.com... Why did't he give the news to him? And we got it from a site that hasen't been Punisher friendly, ever!

And I actually went to bed, but I could't stop thinking about this bull****.

I was wondering why he didnt give the news to Adam as well... I'm curious who this source is that knows him so well to get an exclusive with such a strange way to announce your departure ever...

I mean I know this is supposdly "solid", but I guess before I totally give up hope I'll wait for Jane's camp to acknowledge it, but it sounds like the real deal. Similar to some of the stuff written by Jane in the past I've seen.

Jane, you were the best choice for Punisher
Because you're pulling out P2 is because it might be crap, good reason, I wouldn't want a crappy Punisher movie. Punisher is my favorite comic book and always has been
Just do a DC character
besides superman, DC has done a heck of a cool job on Batman and Constantine

good bye punisher 2...get ready for something worse then the dolph lundgren version.

He sent the letter to Quint.

This maybe the announcement that Advanced Dark was talking about. Not that Jane was pulling out but I guess the script is finished but Jane didn't like it. He was basically saying he won't play in a movie that spit on a character that he loves. More power to Jane! Dude made the part! He is Castle! I'm saddened to see him leave. But I'm hoping that Avi steps in and saves the day. Believe it or not he does listen to the fans and Jane does want to play the part its just something we haven't seen that is going on behind the scenes.
P.S.- this is the 1st time I've seen everyone post and agree about a actor playing a superhero. You always have someone say they are glad he's gone but not with Jane. It just goes to show how Jane made the part.
P.P.S.- it is kind of scary though how he "studied" to get the part. Hanging with guys that kill with their barehands, his intensity, I just hope he doesn't become a real life Punisher, you know, get so cuaght up in the role he REALLY BECOMES the Punisher.

That would be cool. I know New York and other cities need someone like Frank Castle about now. I know that's harsh, but with all the crimes escalating- we need a Batman and Punisher in this world to balance the scales again. :cwink:

I have ALWAYS been a fan of Thomas Jane's and if you've read some of my other posts he is always ranked as one of my TOP favorite actors to be in a Marvel film (along with only Hugh Jackman (you probably already know the similarities- following up with a sequel/spin-off)). He put everything he had into working on the sequel... that similar to Thomas Jane, I don't know how to take the news exactly... but it's more than sad. As he said it feels like someone yanked out my heart and stomped on it. I mean, this was one of two key actors working with MARVEL to ensure the fans get a kick ass movie, only one of TWO! So to have this happen- it makes me really feel sick.

If they even try to make a sequel without him- I'm not going. I'm not supporting it.

This is really disheartening news. I've been waiting for a long times and Thomas Jane was always one of us- a fan of the character...

I fcking hate Lions Gate right now... and like a poster above me, I will seriously pray that Avi saves the day and yanks the property out of their hands and produces it as one of the new Marvel Film Company films.

It's not often that you get an actor attached to a project like this... and for this to happen...

God, this is horrible news. :csad:

When I first read this I thought, "Damn it." Jane was great as Frank castle.

Then, the more I read in to it the more split I became. I liked the Punisher but it seems like a few people have gotten in to Jane's ear and have shamed him in to disliking it. He wanted to do something completely different and completely dark. I think Punisher 2 should evolve from Punisher 1. Tormented, tough but still have intelligence and a heart. P1 delivered those attributes. I liked the popsicle torture and the planned revenge. Just butchering people or shooting them in the head would be too one dimensional for film.

If Lionsgate wants an extension of Punisher 1, then it's a good thing. If Lionsgate wants to half-ass a sequel simply to hold on to the rights and stop Marvel from getting them back, then it's awful news. Marvel has certain criteria written in to their deals with outside studios. They must use a certain budget and they must use the character in a certain amount of time. Since Punisher had a small budget, that may decrease the overall quality effort. Time will tell but all we can do is hope for the best.

You said one of two? I would say 3 actors fit that bill: Jackman, Jane, and Wesley Snipes. Those guys loved the characters they played and really played the parts. They got into the characters and made pushes for their roles and didn't want anyone else playing the role but them. Snipes pushed for Blade and now he's pushing for Black Panther. Dang I wanted Jane to stay for the part! :(

Lionsgate barely even wanted a sequel. The treated it like garbage putting it on the constant backburner. **** LIONSGATE. Thomas Jane was expecting to be filming already.

I really liked Jane as the Punisher. It's a shame. Did he back out because of the script or was there something else?

Never heard about Snipes for Blade, actually. Nor Panther. So, yeah then he's one too.

I don't know if it's just me- but has anyone noticed that the 'fanboys' are always the ones who bring their A games to these films?

Spider-Man 3, I think you might be hard pushed to find someone who didn't think Topher's performance was PHENOMENAL. Perhaps the best in the movie and maybe- movies... just deserved ALOT more screen time than he had. It's awesome the way you can see him 'geeking out' in all of the interviews and his being brought in for the job.

Chiklis, imo, is a great Thing. You perhaps all heard of the Chiklis and Arad meeting and how later his wish of being 'The Thing' came true.

And I actually can't wait to see Fishbourne bring his voice to the Silver Surfer. Same thing, and I think it will be another knock-out home-run performance, when asked in an interview before- he was also 'geeking out' about the character. It was great looking at that interview and now hearing that he got his wish as well.

And I know I'm probably forgetting a couple (though Jane, Jackman and Snipes rank far above these guys in dedication).

THESE are the guys we should have on these films. I'm not saying everybody has to be a fanboy, but to me it seems like alot of these guys put their heart and soul into these films to deliver phenomenal performances and the characters to the screen in a way the fans will love.

I hate it when actors seem 'disinterested' in the role as if it's just some "job" along the way... because I'm betting there are many other phenomenal actor fanboys of these characters out there who are also willing to do everything they can to make sure it comes out right- note: Topher finally gave us 'Spidey-Sense Tingling' for example. Because it is these actors (fanboys) DREAMS COME TRUE that this isn't a job, but bringing to their life their beloved iconic character and giving it their all... you can seriously tell the difference in the interviews.

If only MARVEL can hire and keep more guys like Jane, Jackman and Snipes and also find more actors like Grace, Chiklis, and Fishbourne (I'm sure I forgot a couple along the way) these films will be really amazing: I think Downey Jr. is an Iron Man fan? So, we got another great step right there. I also think- don't hold me to this- was Christian Bale a Batman "fanboy" it's been a while since the Batman Begins interviews, I think he said he was a fan of the characters and read the books (some of the guys who get these roles, have never read the comics!!!!). Or if they're new to the comics- they quickly become "fan boys" of the character.

Avi- fight Lionsgate and bring Jane back. He is the type of guy that DESERVES to bring these characters to screen.
