Because you're pulling out P2 is because it might be crap, good reason, I wouldn't want a crappy Punisher movie. Punisher is my favorite comic book and always has been
Just do a DC character
besides superman, DC has done a heck of a cool job on Batman and Constantine

This is ****, Jane IS The Punisher, and without him, i wont be going to see any sequel, he made the average 1st movie better than it should have been with his performance.

**** LionsGate, Marvel need to sort this out, when do they get the rights back?

When I first read this I thought, "Damn it." Jane was great as Frank castle.

Then, the more I read in to it the more split I became. I liked the Punisher but it seems like a few people have gotten in to Jane's ear and have shamed him in to disliking it. He wanted to do something completely different and completely dark. I think Punisher 2 should evolve from Punisher 1. Tormented, tough but still have intelligence and a heart. P1 delivered those attributes. I liked the popsicle torture and the planned revenge. Just butchering people or shooting them in the head would be too one dimensional for film.

If Lionsgate wants an extension of Punisher 1, then it's a good thing. If Lionsgate wants to half-ass a sequel simply to hold on to the rights and stop Marvel from getting them back, then it's awful news.

I'm still holding out hope it'll be good.

I want to Vomit!!!! My God what a Tragedy. I love Thomas Jane. Punisher 1 wasn't all that bad (few short comings). I am so saddened by this news. Maybe Marvel can pick the rights back up, adapt an Ennis MAX book, and get Jane back. I am truly heart broken today and want to give a big FU to Lionsgate!

One more thing:

If Marvel gets the rights back they can't finance punisher through their credit facility because it's rated R. Hopefully what they'll do is sell it to Sony so they can intro him again in a Spider-Man film and then re-spin him off into a hard R rated action flick. They could easily use the Punisher vs Spider-Man storyline without showing blood and guts but that would have to be a sub-plot within a bigger story. If Marvel gets the Daredevil rights back as they should within 12 months then it could be Punisher vs Spidey and then later Punisher & Spidey vs Kingpin. One wants him dead...the other wants him in jail. Who gets to him first.

Well Sony has distribuit the first punisher in Europe so it ould be possible.
And David good work, I want to be a director too but don´t know if I have so good possibilities because well here in Portugal people prefer to make telenovelas as movies.

Just say no to direct to video movies. There's still hope. Marvel should start looking for a good Punisher 2 script and good director, so once Lionsgate loses the rights (in 2008) to the franchise Marvel can get Jane back and fast track it with maybe Universal distributing ala Incredible Hulk. Lionsgate sucks, damn them!

Avi Arad doesn't work at Marvel anymore. This is a Liongate film not a Avi Arad Production as far as I know, and it's not a Marvel Studios film.

Daredevil, Elektra, & Blade would all go back to Marvel by the end of 2008 from what I understand unless the Blade TV series extended those rights. Punisher came out when? 2004? So those rights would expire before 2009 and I'm going to assume the next Punisher film will still shoot this Summer until I hear otherwise. I will find out damnit.

I can't understand the hate for The Punisher, I thought it was a fun movie. That being said..it's not worth making a sequel without Jane. It's like making Dirty Harry without Eastwood.
