Avi Arad doesn't work at Marvel anymore. This is a Liongate film not a Avi Arad Production as far as I know, and it's not a Marvel Studios film.

Ugghhhh. I just confirmed myself that TJ is 100% out of this project and he is moving on just like that report says. Obviously LGF is still looking to move forward because they're looking for a "new" director. I hope they freaking lose the rights to this franchise. They dropped the ball bigtime. That's all I'm gonna say. Maybe they'll still pull it off and make another "good" film but it sounded to me like TJ and company were on the right track.

...This makes me really depressed...But I really respect Janes choice. If it was going to suck...then hes better off not doing it. At least we know that when it comes to a Punisher movie. Tom will always want it done right.

Saw and Hostel > The Condemned and Punisher sequels

What does The Condemned have to do anything? The Condemned did horrible while The Punisher did okay in theatres and the original DVD did awesome in sales.

I think the level of frustration is at such an extreme high for Tom that he just threw his hands up in the air and gave up. Remember that report a couple weeks ago where he was going to meet with Lionsgate. I imagine that didn't go to well. The weird thing is Lionsgate has had so much success with the blood and guts. If they're gonna try to maket his a PG-13 franchise then they should just give it up right now. If they're going to keep it rated R and try to make it not as bleak as the first film but still maintain the high level of violence and add more gore...that would work for me. I can't wait to hear the details of what happened. I'm sure it'll get out years down the road.

Hi David,

I really like the tone of the trailer you've provided, it's dark, gritty and violent. Castle himself also seems in line with the comics in that he's full of hate and revenge and justice. The only thing I didn't like about it was it had more of a generic action movie "commando" feel to it rather than the vigilante feel. In my view, the punisher is about stalking and removing corruption as he sees it, not so much about getting in wide open gun fights with insurmountable odds (300 handled that angle well enough). The scene with Castle dragging away the captured soldier is cool... as long as Castle feels he is furthering his cause and not just randomly torturing someone.

Anyhow, great trailer, hope to see more stuff from you in the future!

That genuinely sucks. I don't want anyone but Jane. He really commited to the role, was terrific to the fans, and one of the only Marvel Movie stars I have met. He made it a point to interact with and talk to the fans. And why not?...He had one of the coolest characters to play. I'm really disapointed.
Hopefully what this means is that Lion's Gate will get rid of the property, a better studio will pick it up, a better script will come along.....and Jane will come back....I'm going to keep hope alive.

that would be the best case scenario, but a lot of time would have to pass - maybe it could be a Hulk situation, where the rights revert back to Marvel, but LGF just distributes the picture - like Universal is doing with Hulk.

It has to do with LGF wanting to focus on low budget movies that will give them the most amount of profit.

The Punisher is a cult success at best. And if they were truly that satisfied with it's business a sequel would've been made a long time ago while SAW 4 is already in the works and Hostel 2 is about to get released.

Yeah LGF do seem to be messing around with the Punisher. The rights better be given up because they ain't ever gonna make a decent Punisher film as long as they hold the reigns.

And it's a shame with Jane pulling out. But I respect his decision. He don't want a half assed Punisher flick and my respect for him has been lifted tenfold.

And I really don't know what to say about LGF. They're behind one of my favourite TV shows in the Dead Zone too (Season 6 coming next month). I've never seen Saw and Hostel and never have any desire to either.

Here's the simple fact of the matter. LGF isn't serious about making a Punisher sequel. They don't care about the Punisher, they don't want the Punisher.

So they should let the Punisher go.

Just like New Line wasn't serious about making a good Iron Man movie. Everything we heard coming out of that project when it was there and under Cassavettes just sounded bad. Now it at least looks like it has a real shot and a much more mindful director.

LGF, let do everyone a favor and just let go of the Punisher.

I've been visiting SuperHero Hype! for quite a while now, and I've never bothered to post on the forums. This event, however, has compelled me.

This is just a bombshell to Punisher fans. It's horrible, and it truly makes me never want to see a film from Lionsgate again. And I will definetly think twice before seeing a film from them. They have ruined my favorite film (potential) franchise.

However, with Jane out of the picture, it may be almost impossible for Lionsgate to get a film nailed down, as he was such a driving force. This makes me very hopeful that Lionsgate will fail to get a movie and the rights will (eventually) revert back to Marvel.

If anyone has some information on movie rights reverting back to the original owner and timespans and such, could you speak up?

This is sad news indeed. I respect Thomas Jane's decision to drop out though. It really looks like he's been busting his a$$ for 2 years and Lion Gates just didn't give a $h!t. I hope the never get to make the sequel and Marvel gets the rights back and makes it with Jane, because he deserves to reprise the role.

I hope LGF realizes without Jane support & interest in the sequel will be cut in half. Whether you are a fan of Jane or one of his detractors, you have to be honest and say that a major cast change is rarely good. All LGF has to do is look at the Batman films. 3 Batmen in 4 films..............each film slowly getting worse....and WB canned Batman for a LONG time before Begins rolled around. Wake up LGF!

Well actually from a recent interview from Hensleigh said that the 30 million area reported budget was blown way out of proportion. So it was even more low budget than we think. It was obvious The Punisher could have done well in theatres the dvd sales showed that. They just had the worst schedule release date. LGF just handled this property ****ty from the get-go.

Thats the pot calling the kettle black isn't it Knight! Batman 3 and 4 and the crap that was Superman returns. Don't get all high and mighty because 1 DC flick (Batman Begins) was a great movie. Besides if you don't like Marvel movies why come to this thread anyway?

this franchise is toast, at least as far as LGF is concerned. We'll just have to suck it up for a couple more years and hope it gets redone like Hulk.

But that is the thing. I DON'T want the franchise redone. I want to see a sequel with Jane starting off where the first film ended. I can't see myself being psyched for the sequel without Jane.
