Thor in the new Marvel Universe

Govt. Agent : Name please?
Thor : Thor Odinson
Govt. Agent : No, I mean your real name?
Thor : *Raised eyebrow* Pardon?!?
Govt. Agent : Thor is your costume name, i need your real name.
Thor : Thor Odinson is my real name.
Govt. Agent : Please sir, don't make this any more difficult than it already is.
Thor : It is my name.
Govt. Agent : Okaaaaaay. *makes notes in description field at bottom of page*
Govt. Agent : Place of Birth?
Thor : Asgard
Govt. Agent : *raised eyebrow, places clipboard on table* Listen, um Thor, we can do this the easy legal way in which you register and get to spend a couple of weeks in a SHIELD boot camp to learn how to properly use your powers and not kill anybody or i can have you detained, arrested and imprisoned.
Thor : *stands up* Detain, arrest and imprison me? You're kidding right?
Govt. Agent : *Tazer's Thor*
Thor : *sends agent through the wall*

I believe him about IF. He just makes more sense to me than Fury or Hawkeye.

And to be fair it's not like Cap's side has no heavy hitter potential. He's apparently got Cable with him already and I just wanna point out that the inhumans are at war with the US so there's a good chance and good reason for them to side with the anti-government side of this war.

Black Bolt and his kin'd bring some serious freakin power to this war.

And Cap has Herc as well.

yeah but i cant see WHY thor would agree with himself being registered and trained and TOLD WHAT TO DO. cos thats what theyd do and he's never agree to that. so outa character - i dont buy it yet, but they did promise cheap thrills and twists...

um, no offence but how is cable a heavy hitter?? thort he had guns, training and telepathy/ telekinesis? he cudnt knock out the sentry or thor

Prior to the Silver Surfer ripping Cable a new one, Cable was one hell of a big gun.

how? like i sed, no super strength and his mental focus is on that virus of his so his telekinesis is not all-powerful. whatever happened to x-man? (essentially the alt reality versin of cable?) he'd kick some ass... (no virus)

Actually, when he was fighting the Silver Surfer, he was holding up the entire city of Providence.

the technovirus is stable now. It no longer requires cable's mental focus which means he was able to use the full range of his abilities (he was the most powerful telepath and telekinetic in the world). He lost those abilities in his fight with Surfer but supposedly he's regained them by artificial means.

We've yet to see how his techno based powers stack up against his old ones.
but if they're even half of what they were before the surfer fight then he's deffinitely a heavy hitter.

thats redic.

Ridiculous?

Sure.

Doesn't make him weak.

As for his new powers, they're meant to emulate his old powers. I doubt they'll be nearly as powerful as his old powers. Lest the even more powerful Silver Surfer comes down and finishes the job this time.

actually in a character driven universe Thor would sit his two friends down and let them hash out their problems....In a event driven universe he'd pick a side.

Thor is going to return in issue 3 of Civil War. And he takes Tony's side.

Why would a god take anyone's side in this? Plus, his respect for Cap is legendary, so that would make little to zero sense.

I'm Killgore, and I have very reliable sources.

Im MyPokerShirt and i dont like false confidence. cmon, ur specualting. why make a claim if you cant back it until the issues are released..?

Then don't believe me.

It's not false confidence….Ummm, actually I guess it is, since I didn't hold my source's confidence. But that's beside the point.

I'm not going to risk my relationship, or my bar tab, by divulging my source.

That's hilarious. I just had a good ten-second laugh.

It doesn't make any sense given Thor's personality and loyalties, but there are a number of ways it could happen. Thor could not be the real Thor, for one. Joe Q's noted ad nauseam that Thor "doesn't fit" in the Marvel universe (which is utter crap). Thor's maybe-death/absence since the end of "Ragnarok" would be a fine time to install a new, false Thor who will fit with Joe Q's idea of the Marvel universe better. I'd be disappointed, but I've learned not to care about Marvel's characters anymore so it wouldn't really make a difference.

wow. That should be a testament to how well JQ is doing if Corp doesnt care.

Or a testament to how burnt out I am getting upset about each new nail I see going in the coffins of the characters I knew and loved. It's a double-edged sword, though. On the one hand I'm sad to see the Marvel universe drifting further and further away from everything I loved about it, but on the other hand I have to admit that Joe Q and his band of merry men have created a vision for their new Marvel universe and had the balls to carry through and stick with it.

Yeah, it seems most people who don't like 616 Thor are bonkers for Ultimate Thor. Which is exactly why I'd drop any and everything Thor-related and curse Marvel's name 'til the day I die if 616 Thor were changed to resemble Ultimate Thor in character. They're very different creatures that appeal to very different crowds. I personally can't stand Ultimate Thor.

Let me guess, you were acquainted with 616 Thor primarily from the Avengers comics, right? He was anything but an oaf with a hammer when he was being written correctly in his own comics.
I agree with Corp 100% on this.
In mythology Thor is just A mean SOB, and took no **** from anyone.
The ulitmate Thor is almost an exact opposite of what he should be. I think the ULT Thor is ok, but, 616 is way better, and the best portrayed Thor, was just after he took over Asgard and before Asgard fell to earth, IMO.
I loved all the variations of Thor or Thor copys over the years, but, ULT Thor is nowhere near what Thor should be like.

Wrong.
Ult Thor similarities to Myth Thor are the same as 616 Thor (with the aggravating fact that 616 Thor sdoesnt´even have a beard).
Which are ... practically none.
They are gods, they share the name and scandinavian descent and carry a thunder hammer.

And that´s where the similarities of both Ult and 616 to the myth counterpart end.

616 Thor went on many of the same adventures as his mythological counterpart, actually. I don't know if the same holds true for Ultimate Thor, since they haven't really looked at his past too much. But in terms of personality and character traits, you're right, they're both vastly different from the myths.

616 Thor did have a beard as lord of Asgard, and during the Simonson run.
I preffer Thor with the beard myself, that's why I liked the Jurgens run, because that was the closest to the Myth if you ask me.
