And someone like The Lizard does? I've noticed a trend recently, more people want to see The Lizard only based off of the way he appears in the comics, but most aren't thinking about his psychological presence that he should hold as the villain. The way I'm envisioning Chameleon as a villain is alike Hans Gruber(Alan Rickman) from 'Die Hard'. A villain who doesn't need to be in a fight sequence with McClane to hold a fine on-screen presence. Instead, having this villain orchestrate other villains to try to kill Spider-Man. That's the kind of change I'm looking forward to with this series.

Chameleon is, at best, just a poor man's Mystique. At worst he's an evil poor man's Ethan Hunt. I'd actually rather see Mysterio than Chameleon.
And I, for one, am thinking about the psychological ramifications of Lizard. That's the only reason I'm even inclined to see him.

Although I do want Lizard in the next movie, I get what you're saying. So far, it's the same type of villain - a good person at heart, accident, becomes bad, and in the end, gets killed and shows some goodness. Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and New Goblin all were the same type of villain. Venom doesn't count. Sandman is also a sympathetic villain. Adding the Lizard in the next movie will be the same type of story/villain. So, who is truly evil - beside Carange? Maybe Scropion or Electro? Or how about the Vulture?
Actualy those are some of my top choices...Im rooting for Vulture. I also like Scorpion, Electro, Mysterio. And for a secondary villain (if absolutely necessary) I like Rhino and Chameleon.

I like Kraven as well but he'd be best if used with lizard in SM5. I just think storywise it would be best if they didn't go with lizard. Just one truly evil villain is all I ask...then if Raimi wants to go back to the same formula thats okay...but I hope he at least tries to go a different route with Spidey 4. (And this is coming from someone who loves The Lizard, hes one of my favorite Spidey villains)

I'll take Chameleon over Vulture anytime.
Only chance Vulture should've been in the movies was in Spiderman 3.
But since he failed to appear, I do not want to see Vulture anywhere in future Spiderman movies..(and Morbius)

I never wanted Morbius-unless he was gonna be in a Blade movie. I thought it would be intersting to see maybe Blade struggling with whether to kill this man or try to help him, since he wasn't a real vampire & didn't want to be.

For the secondary villain, I would want Shocker or Rhino. I think the Chameleon could be a main villain.

I'm thinking The Lizard as the main, Kraven as a set up to that, he is in town to hunt the Lizard, and you can have an opening scene with Spidey busting The Rhino on a bank job, you don't really need an Origin story for every villain.

I'd rather see Scorpion than Rhino, only for a main role though. If it's going to be a ten minute scene, then forget it.

heres my thought for scorpion and rhino...mac gargan is hired by jjj to investigate peter and how he gets his shots of spidey. Mac idolizes spidey, but certain events cause him to resent spider-man. he is so obsessed by his hunt for spidey that his wife leaves him. he is approached by a woman from a secret company who can "give him every ability that spider-man has...and more". he agrees, has the surgery to become a scorpion, hates what he has become. his insanity is compounded by the revelation that the surgery cannot be reversed. he blames spiderman for driving him to such lengths. many crazy cool fights insue. spiderman is completely outmatched, however during on of their fights Mac's wife an daughter are killed after Mac and spidey fall of a building onto their car. Mac is overtaking with guilt. spidey, knowing he cant take scorpion one on one. attempts to negotiate with him. peter convinces mac that it was the company that caused all the problems. they attack the company together. the president of the company (the same woman who approached mac earlier) gives the typical "crazy im-changing-the-world tyraid", declares project scorpion a failure, and reveals to them "project rhino". a giant human-cyborg hybrid that looks like a giant mecha-rhino. of course they fight, macs tail is ripped off, spidey gets his butt kicked alittle bit. but in end he wins because of his superior speed and wit.

its very similar to the scorpion/rhino story from the spidey 3 video game...and of course there would need to be other sub plots and such, perhaps introducing felicia hardy (not as black cat) and featuring gwen as the main love interest. maybe kill of captain stacy? causing gwen to be in love with peter but hate spiderman? im just spitballin here...

I like that you don't see JJJ creating Scorpion; I never liked that idea. It seems to me that that would make him responsible for Gargan's crimes, ergot he should go to jail.

I like everything in this except Scorpion becoming a ally of the Web-Head. It just seems like it has been done a few times with Sandman and Doc Ock. The Rhino idea is very clever and something that I would not have thought of personally.

true, perhaps not allies...maybe all 3 characters fight each other?

Right, because the fans just loved the 3-way fight last time.

Spider-Man 3 should have been Lizard with a Venom setup at the end. In 4, it should have been Venom with Carnage.

NO CARNAGE!!!!!!!!!!And it couldn't be done that way b/c at the time, there was NO guarantee of a 4th movie. Why risk ending the series on a cliffhanger?

Yeah, as if they wouldn't milk out this money maker.

Yeah, as if they wouldn't milk out this money maker.
Yeah right, if 'Spider-Man 3' had these villains, it still would've sucked. Over the years, the 'Spider-Man' films have been declining in box-office dollars. 'Spider-Man 3' was made for $258M, the movie made $337M. If they were looking to make another continuing on from the cliffhanger, it would've been released in 2008, and quite possibly off of a larger budget of $270-300M. If it were to do so likely, it would've had to contend with 'The Dark Knight' which is the second-highest grossing movie of all-time. Now, if this proposed 'Spider-Man 4' film had been released during 'The Dark Knight's run, it probably would've dropped the movie to #3 a the very least. But 'Spider-Man 4' would've done extremely poor with trying to contend with 'TDK' and would've made an average $200M in the box-office, which would've shutdown this franchise for a long-period of time, until they reboot it in about 8-10 years. "Money Maker", my ass.

Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan('Watchmen' ~ The Comedian) for Kraven the Hunter?...

Defenitely not a bad choice. Loved how much emotion he put into his role as the Comedian in Watchmen. He's just a really good actor, IMO.

Wow, JDM is actually an excellent choice. He could actually bring depth and emotion to the role instead of making him a raving hunter.

I have a bold choice for Kraven. He's not white or Russian, but things can change in the movie universe, right? Anyway, it's Javier Bardem. He was such a bad-ass in No Country for Old Men, the way he "hunted" Josh Brolin. I think he has just the right gravitas to restore the Spidey series. Maybe even to the artistic level of The Dark Knight.

I don't know if someone has already brought up the possibility (Sorry: There are too many pages of speculations to check them all first) but has anyone thought about the possibility of Bruce Campbell eventually being revealed to be the Chameleon?

Granted, he has not shown himself with different faces (Yet) but he has been in all 3 previous movies, playing a character with a different personality each time. While it may just be one character playing up to the role of his job, it could be a good background set up for him eventually getting his ability to change faces, in a future film (Perhaps #5, since #4 is looking like it is going to go with the Lizard and Kraven -Which does not seem like a bad choice!); making it somewhat believable that he could impersonate people whose face he would mimic.

While I am not a fan of the Chameleon (I'd much rather see the Scorpion -Played by Kiefer Sutherland, if I had my choice- before any other), it seems like an interesting way to make the Chameleon more interesting... And it would be an ironic choice in that Bruce Campbell was cast as the "Final Shemp" in Sam Raimi's "Darkman" (His first stray into the world of superhero movies) about a superhero who changes faces to fight crime.
