Thread of the Tomb Raider

I'm happy they are making another one, but I wish it was Edios-Montreal. Shadow understood storytelling and pacing in a way the other two didn't.

Really liked the first 2 reboot games but not tried Shadow yet, it is on my list.

I want Tomb Raider games to keep coming. I've always loved this franchise and this unfortunately underserved genre.

Oh nice that’s wonderful news! They’re a great series of games

I'm glad another one is coming, but I really hope they step away from jungles, forests and the green scenery for a while and move to more urban settings, kinda like Uncharted between the first and second games.

I'd love if they took a more linear approach and had it split into sections or chapters, taking us to more different places around the world and offering more visual variety, instead of having big open sections in a sandboxed world that you have to keep coming back to open new areas and scavange.

I'm so ready to move on from all of that. The trilogy was great, but I expect something different.

The bow and arrow can stay, though. And Camilla Luddington.

I enjoyed Shadow, so I am perched for this. Though I eXpect something drastic from the last 3 games.

And yeah I would love an urban setting.

It's TOMB Raider, I expect more tombs in the next game(s).
I think they could definitely come up with tombs below a vibrant city especially in European countries like Italy, France and the UK.

Assassins Creed basically did that even though it wasn't set in the modern times. The tombs were under a populated city/place.

I've been going through the PS1 games lately, very fun. Currently halfway through 3. I like the simplicity of the old game's where you can just raid area 51 and see aliens and not even bat an eye and Lara is just cool 24/7 and that's all there is to it. I think there's something to be said for that approach and type of character, I would really like future games to de-emphasize the personal/family ties as everything since what, 2006 or so has been tied to family stuff in some way.

If anything the original backstory where the parents are alive and disowned her for her choice of lifestyle, she built her own fortune as a result feels more unique and individual than always chasing parents/legacies. I get the desire that audiences want more out of stories in games these days but there's gotta be more creativity than just sitting in the parents well for the last 15 years.

I agree with this. I really enjoyed the reboot, but became a little tired of the tone through the sequels. It's very serious and convoluted, like there's a huge strain to justify the gameplay loop of looting between massacres. I think the next game could benefit from being a bit weirder and lightening up a little.

Classic Lara will always be the best. The Legend series was a good update that still felt like the character whereas this latest iteration still feels like an extended origin story that never ends.

I think the last game wrapped the origin story and ended on a lighter note. So I’m excited for what comes next.

that is why i held onto my PS3 I love the TR: Trilogy that has TR Legend, TR Anniversary, and TR Underworld

I'm not sure what yall expect. Lara has always been a young woman. The new games have actual character development and growth. Unlike the old games. She should continue to grow and learn regardless of whether its game 2 or game 20. And other than the dual wielding, she's doing everything Lara did in the old games. Exploring tombs and crypts, finding lost civilizations, fighting Trinity, encountering the supernatural, learning about her family, saving the world.

One of the things I loved about Legend was Tobey Gard who was behind the first few TR games in the PS1 era was involved in Legend.

Lara Croft Go is a very good mobile puzzle game if you’re into the genre. Well worth picking up because I don’t know how this deal affects future digital store accessibility and delisting.

Tomb Raider's Lifetime Sales Revealed After Embracer Group Sale - IGN

300 million? And I would assume Microsoft and Sony would bid as they are on a shopping spree. I wonder what this means for the neXt Tomb Raider.

It could simply be that Microsoft and Sony had other affairs to handle. I mean, Microsoft just started buying Activision, that will probably keep them otherwise occupied for a *long* time. And probably only happened in the first place because they could get Activision at fire sale prices.

Something else to consider is that these studios are probably something of a "fixer upper", structurally. Its not like with Bethesda where Microsoft was effectively buying the capstone of an otherwise functional and intact structure. These are effectively three independent studios, whose overarching structure is *not* coming along with them ( because said structure was "Square-Enix" ), and who are probably decayed and neglected somewhat. That's going to require more time and effort to exploit, all else being equal. And Embracer Group does seem to have a bit a specialty in taking neglected AA studios and renovating them.

I have no idea what this sale means. It's not one of the 3 companies that makes console and I have never even heard of this company before that bought this.

I heard they are THQ reborn and they own over a 120 studios for some reason. Maybe they intend to do like house flippers do and fix them up and sell them off for profit eventually.

They are THQ, Nordic and a lot of other former companies rolled into a new one. They bought a lot of the assets of several former studios as well when those closed shop.
