Horror Ti West’s MaXXXine

You're a better person than me.

I would've had to say "No ma'am, this is actually In & Out!"

I think why I was disappointed was I don’t find Maxine to be interesting. With pearl you wanted to know how she got the East she was. Maxine is just some boring actress. X was fun with their characters and premise. Pearl might be in my top 10 favorite horror movies, but I have no interest in exploring this character if their making a 4th this movie proved there is no story to tell.

Pearl was good and probably Ti Wests best film to date but I wouldn't even put it in my top 20.

I went into all three of these films high as a kite and I got different experiences with each film. Maxxxine was exactly what I expected and I felt that worked in its favor. West could have really sucked his own dick with this one and I'm glad he didn't.

I didn’t like the inclusion of the night stalker. You’re making this real life monster into some movie star.

That's what was going on at the time. American Horror Story was far more egregious with it than what they did here.

The female cop was having such a good run in this movie and then they just...make her into some joke. She runs after Maxines dad, gets stabbed in the eye with a cross, says some line and falls down the hill....last we see of her. I hated that part.

Alongwith her dad just killing anyone that she spoke to for more than 2 seconds.

The gay friend was the saddest death. He was great and I wanted him to survive

I haven’t seen that show, but you could’ve just made up a killer instead of romanticizing and keeping this man’s nightmare alive. I don’t like it when any movies do it.

He's actually a character in AHS as is Elizabeth Short and how they're handled is far more disrespectful than what's done here. "Keeping the nightmare alive" is a bit hyperbolic. He's one of the most famous serial killers of the 20th century and was a cornerstone to the time period and location. Given the subject matter, it would have odd not include him in some way considering the panic of the time. Nobody's forgetting Ramirez anytime soon with true crime as popular as it is.

It was so unnecessary lool, you just reminded me how bad that 3rd act was and judging by the reception it seems that it nearly tanked the whole film for alot of people... though to me it did

This started off well, but the twist reveal and acting from the villain in the last 20 min was so bad that it nearly ruined the whole film for me.

They really could've found a better way to tie this to X, especially with the way they hinted things earlier in the film.

Mia Goth was good as usual, but really felt like a supporting character in her own film this time around.

1.Pearl
2. X
3. MaXXXine

****, I thought those were going to be script books. Would’ve gotten me more excited.

Still cool, though.

I'd say I'm the opposite. I thought Lognlegs was "just" good, but still a ton more enjoyable for me than this. I was let down by this one after liking Pearl a lot. The cat and mouse of it felt dragged out but still underwritten and the major revelations were muted and ineffective for me. It looked pretty good, felt lived in, and the performances were fun, but nothing got me over the hump of the meandering plot.

I gave this a 5/10 and Longlegs a 7/10. I'd put multiple horrors of varying quality over both of these these for this year as far as effective scares and entertainment goes too.
