Tim Burton Developing ‘Addams Family’ Series, 'Wednesday' Starring Jenna Ortega

I started watching the 1964TV series a little while back and I'm really enjoying it. I love its writing style and energy. Sure, the casting doesn't always look super close to the original cartoon design, but it's still pretty much perfect to me. Probably my favorite version.

Anyway, this new series has piqued my interest, but I'm not as high as everyone about this trailer.

Jenna Ortega's appearance and demeanor in the lead role seems pretty much perfect. While they don't look alike in real life, I feel like her Wednesday shares a similar vibe to Aubrey Plaza's April on Parks and Recreation, and I love that. But I need to see more from Luis Guzman, who looks cool aside from that really weird wig, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. I know she can pull it off but just visually, she doesn't really screams Morticia to me... That's not a big deal though, what will matters is the chemistry they'll share together.

As a whole, it looks like a fun "easy-watch" but at the same time, a lot of this still reminds me of your classic "Netflix teen show", which isn't really my thing... Plus, I can't help but think how Burton was more charming, to me, when he relied on puppets, stop motion and other practical tricks to render his world. I know he's been using CGI for two decades, but I have a harder time seeing his touch. It feels too... clean ? I don't know.
I know it's just a trailer and I'm going to watch the show anyway, so I'm kind of complaining for nothing. :funny:

I'm really looking forward to who will play Fester. I've seen on previous posts the name Keaton or De Vito.... That would be absolutely awesome!

Rewatching the trailer, and I didn't know until now that Gwendoline Christie was in this series, but cool.

Also, really liking how the colors pop. Obviously Burton has a particular visual flair and this really does have his fingerprints all over it. The way the colors pop when Wednesday is at her new school reminds me a lot of Big Eyes in particular.

It’s great that Ricci is in the mix, but we really need a surprise hit of Joan Cusack.
It's funny how even after how many movies I've seen of hers, anytime I see Joan Cusack in anything all I hear in my head is:

Looks fun! I hope this isn't a stretched out story, but maybe with former network tv writers Gough and Miller writing maybe this can actually work as a TV show? Burton is involved and the story is very cool, so it's worth checking out anyway.

god I love the people *****ing about Luis casting as Gomez like they never saw the original comic strip art or the older cartons or even the new CGI movie that made Gomez more like his original art source lol. I think Luis is great as that version of Gomez and his contrast to CZJ as Morticia is awesome!

And I hear:

Oh yeah?! SET THIS!
Dude, you're making me want to watch that movie again right now. The first of the Raul Julia/Anjelica Huston/Christopher Lloyd movies is the more faithful "Addams" movie but Values is absolutely hysterical and one of the best comedy sequels of all time.

Apart from Cusack crushing it as Debbie and the camp stuff being iconic, I will never not crack up at Gomez's monologue here:

Driz they don't make sequels with the same heart and caliber like they did 'Values'. It was all so over the top, but in a satisfying way. I'm sure Catherine Zeta and Guzman will bring their A-game, but following Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston is a tall order.

BTW, I have a friend that whenever we get heated about someone we act like Gary and Becky. "Don't we just hate that?! Dont we wish they just DIE!?" and then I'll be like "Oh no we dont!"

LOL

One time about 8 years ago a buddy of mine was dating a girl named Debbie. You already know what I said to him.

It still blows my mind how good BOTH of the Addams Family films are. Just absolutely perfect casting, top to bottom and an beautiful aesthetic. It far surpassed the old show. This new show has a lot to live up to but the trailer is great.

Edit: I just realized that Jenny Ortega (Wednesday) was in X. She was really good in that film and looks amazing in this.

The only thing I think they could have improved on was Pugsley. Between the two kids all the good stuff went to Wednesday which is understandable because Christina Ricci nailed it but Pugsley's just kinda there as a result of that. Grandma also felt like a non-character in the first movie but they improved on that in Values when they recast her with Carol Kane.

Yeah, I suppose Pugsley could have been better. And I remember Lurch being a total mute for some reason. But other than that, the movies were fantastic.

Looks great. Jenny looks like she’s going to OWN this role.

‘Wednesday’: Christina Ricci on How It Feels Returning to the Addams Family Universe [Exclusive]

“Well, it's, I mean, you know, it's such a fun world. And, you know, it's sort of I've always viewed myself as a kind of a natural contrarian. And so being in a world where everybody's just like thrilled to be doing the wrong thing. It's just great for me, I love it. So that is what that world represents a lot for me emotionally.”

Besides being ecstatic to return to the franchise, Ricci feels fortunate to work with a talented cast and crew. As Ricci tells us, she knows her name brings something fans are looking for, but she still feels honored with the opportunity to be part of Wednesday. In her words:

“It's Tim Burton, I was so honored to be asked by him because he is just, you know, a genius. And then also to be a part to be asked to be a part of the new version of this thing that is a huge part of my identity and my history in my life. I mean, I know they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, but I was really touched by it, and I felt like it was very nice. And it's such a fun world, and my character is outrageous and fun and different than anything I've done, and it was really great. And I just had a really lovely experience on that with Jenna, who is amazing, and I think now people have a taste of her Wednesday, and it's gonna be fantastic. She is really incredible. And Gwendoline Christie, I love working with her. She's my favorite.”

I actually forgot that Lurch wasn't a mute and had lines in the original show because the first thing I think of when I think of Addams Family are the '90s movies. He was still utilized in funny moments, though.
