Tim Burton's Dark Shadows - Part 2

Dark Shadows was a modest success.More popular overseas than here.It got to 76 Million domesticly because of Johnny Depp. The terrable promation did It no favors.

Intresting the DVD will have deleted scenes. That Is becoming rare nowadays with new DVDs.

And, you know, the fact that it was going up against the biggest movie of the year. :o

Honestly though the film itself likely did it no favors. Unless your critic proof like the Transformers series most of the big bombs in recent years have also been critical bombs or letdowns as well.

When a film is getting 40% on RT it has a lot to work against.

Looking at the possible upcoming Burton projects, none of them really excite me:

- Monsterpocalypse
- Pinocchio
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- Night of the Living
- Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
- Mai, The Psychic Girl

I really hope he scraps them, find an interesting quirky script with a low budget and really tries to think outside his own box this time.

And no Johnny or Helena... they really need a breather.

I want Miss Peregrine, I love the book. Plus Burton said he and Helena are taking a break from working together and there's no role for Depp.

Watched this last night, was quite good, cast and visuals were great, espescially the cast with Depp and Green, who was so sexy in the role it was amazing.

However the tone and pace were all over the place and this let the movie down quite a bit, I also dont see $150 million on the screen, 7/10.

^I thought the tone was consistent with Tim Burton's work as an auteur and not at all what critics had lead me to believe, it may not be his best but it's one of his better films from his recent work since Big Fish. It has it's flaws, the werewolf part of the story was badly executed, underdeveloped monster aesthetic and Moretz silly explanatory dialogue. Moreover, messy climax, the script was uneven, Burton should not work with Seth Graham-Smith again. Overall, well directed film, great humor; top-notch visuals, Danny Elfman score and Johnny Depp performance.

^I just thought the movie shifted too much, sometimes in one scene it would shift from horror to comedy to drama all within about 10 mins, it was all over the place a little bit which I found a bit off-putting.

Frankly this movie showed me what Tim Burton is still capable of...

All he needs is a solid script and he can create magic. The blame for this falls firmly on Seth Grahame Smith.

Gotta agree with a few above, Burton was top notch here. Although I thought Charlie was ok, I couldn't stand Burton's Alice or Sweeny Todd so I was surprised. I blind bought the Blu Ray and I really enjoyed the film, but the ending felt very rushed, and things like the werewolf part were completely out of nowhere. Still I'd say I wasn't disappointed and thought at least 90% of the film worked.

it took me a year to notice this? wtf ?

Yeah I immediately noticed it when the trailer was released.

Moretz' ''WOOF'' was also a reference to ''MEOW''.
