Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

A Tim Burton summer blockbuster starring Johnny Depp is hard to sell? What form of cocaine is his common law wife freebasing again?

Johnny Depp doesn't always rake in the big bucks and Tim Burton has had more than his fair share of underwhelming movie box-office wise.

I see exactly where she is coming from. This doesn't have the instant appeal of their last two big hits Charlie and the Choclate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.

It's got vampires. That's pretty much an instant panty-dropper for female moviegoers. :o

Seems to me that the crazier and more bizzare Johnny Depp looks, the more fangirls will flock to see him.

That's why Rum Diary failed, he looked too normal :o

Johnny Depp+Tim Burton+PG-13+Post-Pirates movies+Vampires+Summer Release Date=$800 billion WW at least. No joke.

It's Depp and vampires. I don't say it can't fail but I don't see why it wouldn't cause some interest.

Oh no I agree... My own excitement for this movie just about equals Dark Knight Rises.

I just find Bonham Carter's comments interesting. While I have never seen the soap opera on which the movie is based, it is apparently very quirky and convoluted... with many commenting how difficult it would be to condense some of the shows storyline's into a 2 hour running time.

If it's as difficult to sell as she claims... we could be looking at more of a Sweeney Todd, box-office wise and less of an Alice in Wonderland.

Okay, seriously. Where the **** is my trailer?!

What are these people waiting for, a ****ing sex change? :o

...but these aren't sparkly vampires sharing a screen with twink werewolves. These are actually well-written characters. :oldrazz:

True. But that doesn't mean they can't be tricked.

I'm sure this movie will deliver at the box office. Every recent collaboration with Burton and Depp has already proven that.

I agree with this.

If It hadn't been for Barnabas Collins we might never have gotten Angel,or the
Vampire Diaries.Play up the fact they likely owe a debt to Dark Shadows. While the
Vampire Diaires do have vampires who can walk In sunlight there are reasons for It.
Unlike Twillight which just has them be able to walk around.Plus this Is Johnny Depp
as tortured Vampire. That will help get people In the audence.

Just making sure this movie still actually exists... :cmad:

Come on, WB. We've got... what?... less than 6 months until the movie is officially released and there is not even a poster for the thing. Not even an official website with a plain logo and release date.

Even the Tim Burton-produced Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has a poster and it comes out well over a month after Dark Shadows. I even feel like Frankenweenie has gotten more attention.

Rant over!

Dang it! They're only one multinational conglomerate.

They can only promote several financial investments so much.:awesome:

They're wasting time by not putting anything out.

I agree that's been taking some time for them to release something. Doesn't matter if it's a promo pic or a poster, just something. A teaser would be great though.

Yeah, a teaser shouldn't be far-fetched, some of the other movies that'll be releasing the same time as Dark Shadows have trailers already so it'd be nice, but I'm hoping by the end of next month that we'll get something.

I'm starting to wonder if this movie has a lot of problems if they can't release a trailer for it when every other major WB release in the first 6 months of of 2012 (and one December release with The Hobbit) have gotten trailers. But even if that were the case, wouldn't there at least be a poster?

I think this has the potential to be a huge hit if something as dull and going-through-the-motions as AIW or POTC4 could both gross over $1 billion WW. But nobody will know about it if there is no awareness of the movie.

I would find it weird of they were in fact having problems to release a trailer because of that. I mean it has Burton, Depp, and it involves vampires. Audiences would love the combination of all three, but who really knows why it's taking them so long to release something.

Let's not kid ourselves. This movie is counter-programming. It is being released a week after "The Avengers." I don't think WB expects it to make much money. Which is, perhaps, why the marketing campaign hasn't started yet.

Variety reported the budget as $60M. While it's easy money for WB I seriously doubt it's high on their list of priorities. I wouldn't be worried about the lack of promo, this isn't a 'big movie'.
