New Character Images From Tim Burton's Dark Shadows Revealed

New character images from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows are now online, thanks to Vanity Fair (with scans courtesy of Hollywood Elsewhere). Check out new shots below the synopsis of Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeifer, Eva Green and Helena Bonham Carter.

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Loving those pictures. If only we could've gotten a Dark Shadows trailer along with the Frankenweenie trailer. But still, at least it's something.

Nice pics indeed, it still bothers me that between the projects Burton is involved this year, the one that's set to come out first doesn't even have a trailer, while the other two projects has, and no, I won't quit whining.

On a personal fan note... Why does Michelle's movies always have her looking older? Shes flawless looking at premiere's etc.

Otherwise... yeah i'm liking these alot, especially Depp. Those fingers and gaunt visage are pretty creepy.

Because she probably goes out of her way to hide her signs of aging.

While Depp looks damn good and handsome for his age, he's not fat but I've noticed his face has gotten wider.

Depp looks quite young for his age, and the roles he plays help. They cake so much makeup on his face, he looks much, much younger. In the latest Pirates he looked to finally be aging.

Even if he's slightly aging, he does not look 48. He looks maybe mid 30s tops; Fassbender looks older than him and he's actually 34

I'd say late 30s, but I agree. It is amazing how young he looks at times.

I think middle-age is going to hit Depp like a ton of bricks... it's more than noticeable as it is.

thats because he didnt have so much botox. i like that he looks older. and the little wrinkles around hey eyes. it makes him look like a real man and not a hollywood actor. i know that this is what some want. a perfect human infornt of the camera. But Fass is the real deal.

Guys in the industry can look older and still get the same parts they did when they were in their 20s to an extent. Females on the other hand....

Like Harrison Ford.

It felt like he went from 40 to 80 in a span of 5 years.

Guys, seriously, how can it be that we have no thread for FRANKENWEENIE? The trailer looked so good.

Frankenweenie looks cute, but I think the short is probably better than what the movie is going to end up being.

I have to be a negative Nancy and say I dont like Depp's look at all. They ladies looks fine, Pfeiffer looks great.

Agreed. I really don't know what it is about the appearance I don't like. I can't put my finger on it

I think it's a nice mixture of Barnabas Collins and Nosferatu.

Besides we know he doesn't always look like that in the movie.

Some thoughts on the Box Office/Marketing from Empire:

Predicting a $60 million opening weekend in the US, and a worldwide gross of $310 million, Empire's unnamed industry insider speculates that: "If this takes us to a Tim Burton world that's incredible, with Johnny Depp and vampires, could this be summer's big surprise?"

Warner Bros are keeping the promotional strategy for Dark Shadows under wraps for the time being, and despite the release date being less than 11 weeks away, the lack of a poster or teaser trailer has not gone unnoticed by fans and the media. All signs point to a short high-intensity campaign which, given the heavyweight competition of The Avengers only a week before Dark Shadows' May 11 debut, may be a wise approach.

Dark Shadows is a complex proposition to introduce to a new audience, and will require delicate marketing. With its large ensemble cast, each with their own involved storylines, it's possible to sell the Dark Shadows story as anything from outright horror, to a gothic fairy tale about a loner vampire, or even a creepy Wes Anderson movie about a dysfunctional family. Any of those approaches could potentially be viable or appropriate, yet each would attract a different demographic.

With its high-calibre cast and the loyal fandom of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, the stakes are high and the potential for Dark Shadows to connect with a mass audience is there. Marketing Dark Shadows has been a challenge that dates back to the show's original 1960s run, and the choices Warner Bros make in the coming weeks may prove very interesting indeed.

Unless they start advertising I can't imagine they'll make that much.
