Uh, what trailer have you been watching?

I already described what I think of the trailer, and how the marketing is different than what the actual film appears to be.

This movie looks quite strange, though I don't think that should be a surprise to anyone.

It was just an uncomfortable mash of comedy, 1950s sci-fi, action and post-apocalyptic nonsense. And the plot just rubbed me the wrong way. The best thing about it was the dozens of cameos and some of the humor was pulled off beautifully.

I'm watching the trailer again, and I've changed my mind. It looks a LOT better than Mars Attacks.

Agreed. I love Beetlejuice. If DS resembles that, while it's not what I wanted I'll enjoy it. But the trailer looked too broad to me. It reminds me too much of all those comedic adaptations of TV shows like 21 Jump Street and the Ben Stiller one. Normally I don't care, but DS was a great show to watch as a kid when they reran it on Scy-fy.

Oh well. I feel like I'm bordering on trolling, so I'm going to stop with my complaints and just say it visually looks great and both Depp and Green (surprisingly more the latter) look to bring a lot. I hope it's a good movie.

Say what you want, I'm lookin' forward to this. Some may scoff at the move towards comedy, but what I see, the comedy actually works, for me anyway. The dialogue is great, I love the look of it, and Eva Green . . . . . MAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!

I loved the exchange between Depp and Moretz at the end of the trailer:

"Are you stoned?"

"They tried to stone me. . . . it ddin't work!"

Looks like another fun Tim Burton film. I think people need to get past the music they used in the trailer. Beyond the music I can see that it's not a full on lighthearted comedy.

Okay. The complaining has to stop. Tim Burton and Warner Bros. have been working together for 27 years. When have they NOT been misleading with their advertising? Let's take a trip down memory lane:

I enjoyed the hell out of that trailer. Had a grin the whole time. t: From the looks of it, I bet Eva and Johnny had a blast on set. My ticket is bought.

If you've seen the finished film, then by all means dispute the marketing. It could be more darker and less funnier than the trailer suggests, it could be something different altogether or the trailer nails what the movie is about.

I know Eva Green said that the way the movie is much more surreal and theatrical... but we don't know the full context of it. All we have is dialogue and snippets of certain scenes.

Well, I'm pretty sure the title itself and the "adapted from the stage musical" subtitle gave people a clue. Had Sweeney Todd been marketed under a different name and didn't say anywhere in the trailer that it was based on a musical -- that would've been misleading.

I saw Sweeny Todd opening night and like 1/4 of the crowd walked out when he started singing and a bunch more when he started killing people.


It was rather odd.

Eh looks alright, definitely not a movie I'm willing to spend my money on to see in the theatres but I'll rent it when it comes out on dvd. Way too many fish out of the water jokes for my taste and I'm just not really fan of Tim Burton besides Mars Attacks and Sweeney Todd. That poster however is without a doubt the worst poster I have seen all year, eesh that is bad.

Other than about three seconds of Depp singing (and more of a talk-singing in that particular clip), it hides the fact it's a musical. I think it is one of Burton's three masterpieces (the other two are Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands), but many people hated it when they found out it was a musical. Also, the trailer makes it look like a drama where HBC will redeem Sweeney. It hides that she actually urges on his serial killing and cooks his victims into meat pies to sell.

It debuted in November and looked like a dark period piece and was something much better.

It was fun, wasn't it? It has that fish out of water Edward Scissorhands vibe to it. With a Burton movie you always get a visual feast and this is no different. And get a load of Eva Green and Pfeiffer!

I'm making one right now. Just trying to align the frames because it looks a bit whack when cropped to a square when it was originally about 16:9.

My memory's a bit rusty, it's been a while since I've seen the trailer for ST. I just remember the TV spots.
