Tim Burton's "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiars" Coming in 2015

Looks good. Too bad they didn't get Burton to do New Mutants instead of the cancer movie guy.

Yeah, Tim Burton making a New Mutants movie, considering his sensibilities and knack for outsiders, would've been awesome!

And whoever thinks that'd mean pale looking, black-suited X-Men, they're forgetting that Burton also made the bright and colorful Mars Attacks!, and has a love for science-fiction B-movies.

I just saw a commercial and see it got slapped with a PG-13. I was sure it was gonna get a PG.

To me, it does not give off that vibe.

Not really too surprising. After all, half of the Harry Potter movies were PG-13 and this seems to have the same sort of tone as the later ones.

Having read the book, that doesn't surprise me at all. After all, the book is found (at least in our book stores) in the young adult section - not the children's section and (IMO) for pretty good reason. There are some kind of dark/disturbing themes in it that aren't really for young children.

Probably check it out tomorrow after work. Some have said it's Burton back at his best, and it's actually too scary for some kids.

Yeah, mixed reviews on this one, but sounds like a more coherent effort than DARK SHADOWS (which I liked for the most part).

Should have a healthy box office and debut at No. 1 this weekend.

It is much more coherent than Dark Shadows. And what's better is that he and Bruno Delbonnel have cut back on the filters, so this movie looks good. The CG isn't pervasive like it was in Alice, due to the lower budget.

It's definitely a step up for Burton. He is a good fit for the material and I enjoyed the climax. I felt the movie moved in fits and starts, but it was a fun little diversion.

Samuel L. Jackson disappointed me, though. He's done these villain roles to death, and he just phones it in this time. They needed a good character actor for Barron, and SLJ is as menacing here as he is in those Capital One commercials.

Do they remain pretty faithful to at least the spirit of the book? (naturally, there are things that can work in books that don't work in films, and sometimes things have to be condensed or omitted for a 2 hour film - but is the overall spirit of the book still there?)

I have not read the book, but having seen the film last night and read the book summary, the broad strokes of the story and setup are there. Some minor Peculiars do not feature in the film, two are switched around, and Samuel L. Jackson's character was created specifically for the film. And it appears that screenwriter Jane Goldman leaned more heavily on time travel paradoxes than the book does.

I will say that some book fans will likely not dig the ending, which is radically changed. It gives the film closure (and a happy ending) but leaves room for a Library of Souls film.

It sucks that i've been waiting for a return to form for Burotn, and I don't it'll happen.

Big Eyes was decent but anyone could've made it. Plus, it was surprisingly ugly despite the director and DOP behind it. Digital done wrong.

Miss Peregrine looks fantastic, Burton and his DP eschewed a lot of the usual filters in favor of a more natural look. The titular home is beautifully lit, with natural light and a whimsical vibe. Florida looks plain, 1943 Wales looks fantastic, and modern day Wales look positively gray and dreary.

Some digitally-shot films give away their source format, but Miss Peregrine looks good enough to pass as film.

Saw this today, and really, really liked it. They could have done a better job explaining how time works earlier, but outside of that I thought it was really well done.
