PREMISE: The world is coming to an end. You're given a list of 25 movies to be placed in a time capsule and launched into space in hopes of an advanced civilization finding them and recreating us all as if nothing ever happened. The problem is, only 1 movie will fit... pick the movies you would most trust with the recreation of mankind.

3. Best fantasy films
4. Best animated films
5. Best comedy films

I would add more, but only five I would choose Begins for the superhero genre to be seen in a positive light and hopefully continue. It also mixes action, adventure together.

There would be other genres:

Science Fiction: Star Wars

Adventure: Indiana Jones

Film Noir: Maltese Falcon

Another drama: By the waterfront

Horror: Any Alfred Hitchcock film.

Well ........ if the film were to be used to recreate the human race it would have to be something that shows us in a good light ... so we DO NOT send Apocalypse Now!!

Not sure, maybe Shawshank? It really captures the spirt of survival, hope and friendship.

No, it would have to be a culturally diverse film... Saving Private Ryan and The Shawshank Redemption are predominantly movies made by white people, with white people, for white people. Why are the selections all sci-fi/fantasy except for Apocalype Now? We want aliens to know what we're like, so you send them a bunch of movies about fictional worlds and one about Vietnam?

I'd say movies that show the good and bad in people, and show a range of kinds of people in the world. Things like The Big Chill, MASH, Babel, Saving Private Ryan, Crash, To Sir With Love. Stuff that is fairly modern, has characters that many people relate to, is realistic, has things that aren't overly sentimental but also don't just focus on the bad things people do.

I can't think of any more that aren't as America/white people centric right now, but that's what most movies are so...
