hmmmm well. i though that the phoenix thing was really cool. famke really freaked me out through most of the movie. i liked how they killed off cyclops and prof X. i think they will both return for x4. i DID NOT like how rogue got cured. thats probably the only thign that really ticked me off. also, maybe colossus's screen time...

That review that I typed up and posted last night after my midnight showing?

Take it and wipe your ass with it or something. Because it's useless.

It was a much better film upon second viewing than I originally gave it credit for. Viewing it a second time, the pacing wasn't as much of a problem at all.

Not as good as X2, but on par (and perhaps a slight edge over) X-Men.

You can say "I told you so" now...

It's not just you Nell, it seems a LOT of people saw the movie and disliked it on first viewing. Then saw it a second time and enjoyed it a hell of a lot more. I think it really does come down to all the hye we have had, all the wishing that it would be completely consistant with the first two movies.

I am glad that you can enjoy it now ;) Thats the main thing.

wow. Cool Nell, nice that you enjoyed the movie

it was a good movie, i think somewhere between x-men and x-men 2 in terms of quality.

I just loved the music, the opening credits and phoenix theme, it really made the xavier death and the end truly dramatic and having the x-men enter on the island with the theme tune was quite heroic

I'm glad you did give it another chance Nell. There are so many good things in there. I think peopl are thrown by the increase in action and in a more comicbook approach, but there are also some great little character moments. It's not all action by any means. I'm going to see it again tomorrow.

It doesn't have Singer's 'restraint' and introspective, understated look, it's much more expansive, but it still has briiliiant character moments. Not perfect by any means - maybe that's the time factor? I hope a few things are adjusted for the DVD release. But it's damn good entertainment. When I see it tomorrow, I'm going to rewatch X2 again first with the friend I'm going there with.

ive only seen x3 once and when i watched it i was thinking its realllly really good and as good as x2. then when it was done i thought...maybe it wasnt so great...a good conclusion but not an overly good movie and not as good as x2. then an hour later as i went over the movie i loved it again and it seemed to be growing on me then wen i woke up this morning i thot i just wish singer did it so we would have gotten it more fleshed out and now im sorta like well thats not happening and x3 was pretty sik and i guess as good as x2 so im gona say thats my opinion =P.. ive only seen it once tho and i plan to watch again later today

well I haven't posted in awhile I went into this movie with an open mind, see I don't think they have really made an x-men movie yet. I think this might be the closest one in scope. I loved it my 14 year old daughter loved it. in my opinion it was better th X2 because it was more of a comicbook movie. I personally wish that anyone other than Singer had made the first two, then we might have gotten X-men in 2000. they put in everything that Singer said they couldnt do, it wasnt that they couldn't it was because Singer was scared to make a comicbook movie. again i loved this one. oh and i read wizard and James was still filming his parts in Superman and flying back and forth to do his cyke stuff. I believe he would have had a more substancial part if he, thats right he hadn't decided to make Superman instead, but thats just me.

Yes, that was totally awesome.

It was one of those things that I actually didn't catch the first go round, but last night, I did catch it, and I thought it was amazing.

Each X-Men member with their own unique entrance... Storm floating down, dropping lightning bolts on everyone. Beast leaping down. Kitty and Bobby dropping through the floor, and rising up. Colossus leaving a crater in the ground, haha. And Wolverine sliding down with his claws. All while the entrance theme was playing.

Well, I posted a new review in the review thread.

I made this post because, well, I made my opinion pretty well known last night and earlier today, and I've even said some less than positive things about Kinberg and Penn.

And I think it's only fair that I face up to the mistake that I made...

Not that an opinion can be a mistake...

But my rash judgement of Kinberg and Penn was. My rash judgement of this film as a whole was.

I still don't like all of the creative decisions made (I.E. Cyclops' fate), but it's only fair that I give credit where credit is due.

Even though its online, admitting something like this can change peoples impressions of you. I automatically think so much more of you, and not because of your ideas on the film, but more so the fact that you actually state that you changed your mind here, which is something no one does...

I give you a lot of credit here for being able to publicly admit when you believe that you were wrong and your endorsement is a positive thing for the film. Having said that, I also think that good films should be able to impress on a single viewing.

-charges at Nell and pounces him- :) Hey buddy. I saw it the second time after my first viewing. the first time, it went by a little fast but not too fast. Didn't feel as short. I got distracted by the audience though ...especially near the end.

This woman held her hand over mouth and gasped as Logan killed Jean. That was her reaction. She was SHOCKED. I missed some of it cause I was distracted by the woman.

So after walking out of the theater, I thought to myself...well its only 3:30... why not see it again? so I saw it a second time a little after 4:00 PM :) Again I felt the pacing wasn't as fast when I saw it the first time and it didn't feel short... Most scenes felt longer.

And yes, I cried more and more this time around than the first viewing. Especially Jean Vs Logan. MAN... especially during Jean vs Xavier. Actually before that when Jean screamed Nooo and the glass shattered on her... after Xavier screamed at her about how she killed the man she loved. He shoved it in her face and BOY... I've never seen a woman so...freaking PISSED and full of RAGE and UPSET and ...yeah you get the picture but man. Famke was AWSOME... I love her and especially her in this one.

... anyway. glad to have ya back Nell. :)

A lot of films that I highly enjoy didn't impress me upon first viewing.

The Matrix, I thought was a very bland and boring film the first time I saw it. I am now a pretty big fan of the entire trilogy.

The Punisher is one of my favorite comic book films ever. Upon first viewing, I found it to be a little on the disappointing side.

So the fact that X-Men: The Last Stand didn't fully impress me on the first viewing isn't totally indicative of the film's quality. Merely, probably more along the lines of hugely high expectations from me for the film, after 3 years of anticipation, and a year of following this film on these forums.

This film still isn't on par with X2. Not in my opinion. It's too fast paced for that, and not enough development of character or plot for that. This is a much simpler movie than X2 was, and X2 will always be the superior film of the trilogy in my opinion.

But upon second viewing, I liked it. Immensly. The pacing didn't seem as rushed this time around. I think it seemed rushed the first time because I was too extatic for the movie, and all these scenes that I've been anticipating for so long, didn't play out exactly how I had them in my mind, or they were over fairly quickly. And it seemed to jump around.

But upon a second viewing, it all seemed to slow down, and work a lot better for me. And I did feel more of a sense of motivation from Magneto the 2nd time around. And Callisto and Arclight and Quill didn't seem as wasted the 2nd time around.

It just worked better the 2nd time around, and now I wanna go see it AGAIN! So I'm probably gonna go down sometime tonight to see it for a 3rd time :)

Under normal conditions, I would say a film has to survive on first showing as I normally only view films more than once if I like them first time. In other words, why should X3 get the preferential treatment of a second chance where other films wouldn't.

The X3 experience for fans like us is completely different than for the regular audience. As you say our obsessive expectations mutate what we see on screen and we often focus on details (to do with the faithfulness of the translation of particular plot points or characters) that do not necessarily correlate with film quality. The main reason I haven't written a review of the film yet is that I am still unsure of how I feel and unwilling to commit to my current thoughts.

I think second time round for me will be like the first time for a regular viewer as my expectations will no longer have any impact on how I perceive what I see on screen. From that respect, I can understand exactly what you are saying above.

X3 was so orgasmic... um yeah. that was the second viewing. oh god... I just thought of something in relation to Jean's redemption expression...and I don't wanna go there. :O

 .....I don't post in this section much but i do read it and after your review yesterday I'm honestly shocked but kudos to ya b/c while i haven't seen X3 yet the fact you have and have decided you need to reappraise is a rare thing on SHH:up:

Remember all the crow I said I'd eat if I was wrong about the AICN report?
