I'm curious to know...be honest.

Would you rather have a book on time with a fill-in artist of average quality, or a book delayed so the regular artist can continue their run?

Or is it that you don't mind either way?

Personally, I like my books on time. If artists are really that great, but never make deadlines, put them on mini's or shorter runs. Meantime, hire some quality fill-in artists to pick up the slack in case of emergency.

What's your thoughts?

Yeah, this is exactly what we were talking about. :whatever:

Depends on the delay time. A month like for Civil War I can deal. But if it's ASB type delays I'd rather they just put it out and get it over with. (though in the case of ASB, the art is the best part of the book)

Its a worthless thread, because it doesnt even address what we were actually talking about.

I like my books on time, but I HATE fill in artists. Sorry.

Thats like if Marvel got a fill in for Ultimates, even though the book is beyond late, I don't care, I love Hitch's art.

Same with Civil War, yes delays suck, but fill-in artists suck even more.:(

Some artists like Hitch and McNiven are impossible to replace without it being a huge distraction. Another example is Uncanny X-Men and the recent Clayton henry drawn issue, it was distracting and looked out of place when compared to the Billy Tan issues.

PWN3R RANGER is right, fill-in artists or rushed art by a great artist make me want to crack open my skull and let storied male porn stars ram my brain into mush.

Thats another thing, it depends on the artist. Like the recent fill in on DD was perfect.

Don't be sorry, I'm genuinely curious how everyone feels about the situation.

If I had a magic wand, I would make all artists hit all deadlines, regardless of quality. The industry isn't really set up that way atm.

Quality within reason.

For instance there is no justification for Kevin Smith level lateness.

Some artists are simply irreplacable on a series.

If the Ultimates or Justice had a fill in I would spit hairs.

Fill ins in general always suck. Not that their art is bad, but it just takes you out of the story. Thats like if Justice had a fill in artist?

Although on titles like Uncanny and other mainstream titles, it is more understandable, but on big events, the big two really needs to get their stuff right.:(

Exactly.

:( This conversation and Doc Destruction's blatant hate for all things Marvel gives me a headache. I've forgotten, is it because once you loved Marvel above all else and it let you down? Or have you always been a DC fiend?

Yup yup.

Kevin Smith late puts Bryan Hitch late to shame.

And thats saying something.

Quality is very important, but delays usually lead to the title losing steam.

They should do a book together, just for kicks.

And no, I'm quite the Marvel zombie...I just think their flagship titles stink right now.

And it could be about Karen Page and loosing virginity.

Back in May, the Sabres played the Ottawa Senators in Round Two of the Playoffs. In Game One, the Sabres were down a goal late in the third, but tied it up with a mere 11 seconds left. The game went into overtime, and the Sabres scored 30 seconds in to win it. Was I pissed that they didn't score a second time in those 11 seconds? Was I pissed that I had to wait 20 minutes before the start of a new period? No, I was ecstatic, because I'd just watched the best game of my life. Quality over Timely any day.

Sigh.... both are not mutually exclusive. This would not be a problem if they had a certain amount of issues completed before one was even published.

For example, if you have a six-issue arc, have every single issue completely finished before the first part comes out. And while issue one is still on the stands, start producing the next arc.

It ain't that hard, people. You're professionals, so start acting like 'em!

What a weird story.

Oh man, I would LOVE it if the industry did that.
