Tmnt script transcript

Can't say I agree with the "kid movie" defense. I can forgive it from a kids' cartoon because I know I'm not even supposed to be watching it, but I am within the target demographic for this movie, and that joke makes my eyes roll right out of my skull.

Define 'potty-humor'
-I assume you mean thing like childish bowel movement gags, "poop for fart jokes" like you said above: That would be TMNT2 if memory serves.
-Then there is the presence of homophobic humor...

That being said, this movie isn't based on the 90's/2000 films.
It's based on the brand.

Tokka and Rahzar burping because of the carbon dioxide in their systems to demutate I wouldn't consider to be potty humor. Maybe it wasn't needed sure, but it wasn't like they made the two into flatulent mutants. Modern day kid movies seem like they have to insert one or two fart or poop jokes into every movie or some flavor-of-the-month catchy teenybopper song. It drives me nuts.

Besides, if you got a belly full of gas, there's going to be side-effects. The other thing too, I'll add, is Tokka and Rahzar were giant babies. They had the minds of essentially toddlers. Yes, they were childish, incompetent beings, but one burping scene, in my opinion, doesn't equate as bathroom humor to me.

It's the same as Mikey tickling Tokka's feet and crying, it's a cute, funny scene but again... you had mutants that had the minds of giant adult-sized infants. All in all, though, if you get pass Tokka and Rahzar, "Secret of the Ooze" still knows its demographic. It had a lot of jokes aimed at adults and has loads of pop-cultural references.

The same can be said about 'wet willy time' in "TMNT 3." Some would argue it's childish humor but to me I look at it as modern-day "Three Stooges" shtick. Substitute poking eyes and clonking heads with that and it's pretty much the same thing.

However, I will give you points, Marvin, that these movies are trying to reach a large sum of people--- from those who only know the Turtles from the cartoons and those who have grown up from them since they're beginning as comic book heroes, but however I'm with Zaron... that joke makes my eyes roll.

But I have to ask... where is the presence of homophobic humor as you speak of in "Secret of the Ooze?"

I'd also say a fair amount of childish humor in SOTO made me roll my eyes as well, and that was in a film that deliberately set out to have a much campier tone than the first one. Given the much more cartoonish tone of that film (Mikey fights with friggin' sausages in the opening fight, for Peter's sake) it's far less out of place, and even then the film went a bit overboard on infantile gags. And in light of that, none of those given examples approach the sheer lack of effort of a "doodie" joke. Even Wreck It Ralph at least had that joke come from an annoying child.

I personally love the combat cold cuts scene. Just so funny, bizarre, and something Mikey would do. And hey, points to him for improvisation. :yay:

But yeah I know what you mean. Good example of bringing up "Wreck it Ralph." That movie was chockfull of potty humor but at least it was said by an annoying child played by the even more annoying Sarah Silverman.

Michelangelo is what 15, 16, or 17 years-old in this film. How many 15 year-olds are still making "doodie" jokes? Again, I get it, they're trying to reach the kiddies and trying to appeal to a big age demographic from ages 6-106 but it's a bit of an eyeball-roller.

I have to wonder that if Bebop and Rocksteady were used in "Secret of the Ooze" instead of having giant mutant babies, would've been different or the same with the campier tone and gags....

I don't mean to hate on that cold cuts scene. I think that entire battle does a pretty good job of bringing to life the kind of goofy fight scenes that were featured in the old cartoon. What I mean is that it's pretty much a giant neon sign letting you know that this film wasn't going to have anywhere near the dark and heavy tone of the previous one.

Bowel movements are juvenile depending on the detractor. Of course someone can defend it(usually that would be me) but I'm just looking at your loose definitions here and applying them. It didn't need to happen and it did. As for it being acceptable because those characters were of a certain mental capacity and disposition. I'd argue that the turtles(mikey in particular) is of a certain mental capacity that could be defended as well.

As for the homophobic joke, I haven't seen the film in a while but I recall it being made by Casey Jones leading to him leaving the sewers and sleeping in the truck. I only even understood what it was about having been told by a gay friend how funny they thought it was.

How many grown men act the way the characters in 21 jump street act? Movies aren't documentaries. Mikey is as he is in the cartoons, a type of 'teenager' that isn't exactly indicative of the average.

Next we'll be asking how many 15-16 years are doing what Don does, or "how many" are as Leo is. The answer is 'some'. But it doesn't even matter cause this movie isn't about the world, it's about these characters and who they are. Mikey is an obnoxious clown of a teenager.

Not that many people were like bruce wayne at 16 either.....

Missed my point. I don't expect grown men to act like the characters in "21 Jump Street." Heck, I don't even act like them. I don't expect teenagers to act like the kids in "Project X" either.

But getting back to Mikey, Mikey is the big kid of the group yes. He likes comic books, video games, cartoons, movies and TV, and extreme sports. However, that being said, hearing Mikey say "doodie" in the script (if that page is real or not) doesn't make me chuckle or smile as much as go, "Ugh...."

To a five year-old, they're going to love that line, but to me... it seems fitting for "Wreck It Ralph" than a Turtles movie. From the lips of a child, it works. It's cute. It makes sense. Not from a teenager. The screenwriter could've written a better joke is all. Had Mikey say something actually funny than resorting to potty-humor.

The same as Raph referring to the humans as "surface-dwellers." It's a weird line to hear him say because it makes me think of the Turtles as Mole People or Morlocks.

'The outside world' or 'the humans' sounds more like Raph, the other Turtles, or Splinter would say.

Again, this is one page from a script with two insignificant things it, but like I said I just feel it could be better written is all.

*Shrugs*

Shoot me for thinking it.

You said 15 year old kids don't do this did you not?
Cops don't act like Eddie Murphy in those hit 80's movies. That's because those hit 80's movies never assumed or presumed to be based on what cops do. They were just plots about a particular type of guy. If that's too much of a variation for you fine, I'm simply saying that doesn't mean it's 'poor writing' or doesn't work.

I personally think the characterization is open to interpretation on premise.

How's about I just disagree and tell you why. No victims here.

There is also this.

Raph:
Spoken like a true Boy scout

Leo:
You think I asked to be the Leader of this outfit. Raph? You think i wanted this? Splinter chose Me. I'm Just Doing My duty.

Mikey:
Ha. Doodie

Raph:
Some "duty" - Risking our necks every night for surface-dwellers who'd lock us up in a zoo, or worse, if they knew we existed. You saw how that chick looked at us......
{stepping INTO THE LIGHT}
...like we were freaks

The other turtle fallow raphael into the light. Leonardo shakes his head, disapointed in his brother. And is the first time we've really seen the turtles out of the shadows. They look like heroes, but i different kind of hero. They don't relish their victory. They're just teenagers, They're Freaking tired. And they want to unwind

Mikey:
Maybe if we save enough people, if we do enough good, we'll be accepted up there, Whaddya think.....?

Donnie:
Grow up Mikey....

Leo:
I think... That we must be doing this for a reason. I just dont know what that reason is...

The turtle shuffle into their lair. Leo keeps his armor and Swords strapped on, but the other start slowly tossing off their armor and their weapons

Splinter: The bonds of family are stronger than steek...

The turtles spin back..As SPLINTER step out of the dark. The humanoid version of the lab rat we met in OUR opening. Mutated and wizened, with brown hair, gray in places, scoliosis back, four feet tall, carrying a walking stick

pre-ordered that ishh yesterday, love the whole presentation of it.

The comic reproduction alone makes it worth buying, IMO

Personally I don't mind.
I want the other 3 turtles to be serious.
But I would like Mikey to be the hat nod to all the goofy aspects of the tmnt franchise.
If I had my way he would be the only turtle to make goofy jokes and be obsessed with pizza, this would still suit his character in a serious movie... not the turtles though however
