I agree that Hamato Yoshi's connection to Splinter/Shredder must be addressed.I don't know exactly how they could work it in convincingly at this point, but it's the only real issue I have with the movie.

Every time a TV spot comes on my 3 year old says he wants to see it again and that he loved that movie. Maybe I'll convince his grandpa to take him.

Do him and your father a favor and show him the 1990 movie or the 91 sequal. Much better flims

Can someone explain how they got all that high tech equipment when they never left the sewers. EVER. I mean people aren't throwing away working computer equipment and the turtles seem to have some nasa full computer lab equipped with security cameras LMAO

Meh. That's always been a thing with the turtles, and the lair in particular, across incarnations. If I'm going to suspend disbelief over the big turtles and rat who do karate, I can find myself not caring that they can scrounge up some working tech.

That's a thing prevalent in all versions of the franchise, though.

I remember seeing the first movie and thinking "How do they pay the Pizza guy?Where do they get the money?Splinter's on a pension or something?"

Since the trailer came out I was one of the strongest opponents of this movie and its direction. But I admit this wasn't the abomination I was expecting it to be. I was actually entertained and it didn't butcher the mythos as it seemed it would. My only gripes that prevent me from loving this movie are the fart scene in the sewer, the hulk sized turtles design and the pornstar face of megan fox really took me out of the movie the whole time, although she did a good job acting wise.
I give it 8/10.

Just finished it....wow.

What a completely forgettable movie. Literally outside of the nostalgia of seeing the turtles on the screen again, I don't think I liked a single aspect of this film.

And I am usually pretty easy on films.

I've just seen this and yeah it's a pretty bad movie. In the beginning I thought this isn't too bad, not a bas as some people were saying but then it just went downhill for me when April went into the lair.

Pros: The Turtles personalties were very well done and I thought Johnny Knoxville was a horrible choice for Leo but he was pretty good actually. I was pleasantly surprised by him.

The action was good, especially the end fight with shredder, he was awesome in this. Just a shame he had all that weaponry, he didn't exactly need it.

I like the CGI too, I thought they did a great job almost throughout.

I disagree that the turtles were the costars in their own movie, once they were in it. Which I thought happened quickly, it was very much their movie.

Cons: Too many to list them all but here's a few

Splinter didn't look right to me nor did he sound right.

Shredder's megatron suit was over the top and for the most part not needed. I just think they wanted certain shots and decided to update his costume as a result.

The origin, sorry but taking out yoshi because it was "too complicated" is a cop out. The origin we actually got was sloppy and didn't make much sense to be honest.

Some people said one of the best parts of the movie was the snowy scene. Yeah i have to disagree, in the middle of watching I was like what the hell is going on??

Bullet proof shells, really?? Yet Shredder cracked Raphs shell with his foot

Many more but I think thats enough complaining.

I do however think some things can be easily improved upon with a sequel. This reboot isn't far beyond saving.

My rating is 4/10

It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, but at the same time it was a forgettable film. The origin mix up wasn't too bad, and it seems can be tidied up. The main problem was the pacing; the film whizzes by that nothing really sticks or has any emotional impact.

Eh....I'd give it a 6.5/10. I'll stick with the new nicktoon for now.

Ugh! Where to begin! I didn't really plan on seeing this movie until it came out on DVD, but I got dragged by a friend.

The movie started out great, but mid-way through, it went straight down hill.

The turtles looked better than I thought they would, but I still prefer actors in suits. I know in this day and age it's all about CGI, but I think some things deserve exceptions. Splinter didn't look good at all. There's was something different about him than the turtles. I'm not sure if it was the look, or his voice. I was also expecting a beat up rat who couldn't move around good. I also think they went a little overboard on the Shredder. There's just too much there and I think that was a little distracting.

I'm also upset on how they handled the Shredder. I thought the 1990 film did it very well with the Shredder basically in the background until the final fight. You felt his presence throughout the film with stories and brief appearances. In this movie, he just randomly shows up in the sewers. To me, there was no real build up to that moment as well as the final fight. It just felt out of place(was kind of hoping it happened at night time). I think there was more build up to April and Vernon confronting Sacks, then the Turtles confronting Shredder.

I think the only thing they nailed was the comedy. I loved the Michaelangelo moments.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the film. I'm hoping the sequel can deliver much, much more than this did.

6/10

Didn't know there was a thread for the movie, silly me. Saw it last weekend.
Anyways, I liked it. Is it great? No. Is it good? Yeah. It's enjoyable. If you had to make me choose, I'm going to have to say the first film is better. That said, the fight scenes in here were better than the ones in the first movie. Especially the Shredder & Splinter fight. The backstory is the major thing I have issue with. They scrapped the Hamato Yoshi bit with him becoming a rat or a rat learning from him, and his connection to Shredder. Megan Fox as April was...um....so the turtles were pretty much exactly how they should be. Donny a nerd, Leo the leader, Raph the brute, and Mikey the clown.
The usual Bay tropes aren't really present. Ok, a few are, but not enough to rally bog it down. The CG was good too, though there were times where I looked kinda 'meh'. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you want to give a new spin on the Turtles a chance.

Finally got around to seeing the movie and oh boy I'm just glad they got the turtles right because everything else was horse doo doo

So no connection between Splinter and Shredder
and Shredder was basically a robot too busy for my taste
he really did look like megatron from transformers 1

and they learned everything from a book they found in the sewer
REALLY!!!!!!!! and in mint condition being in sewage OK
April's pets wtf was that and How did Sachs know that she would find them so easily?? then Raph goes to rescue his brothers and everybody
just leaves and they are bullet proof man F*** this movie

I hope they do and incredible hulk type thing and switch origins in the opening sequence and get a real turtle movie out of this

Megan Fox wasn't terrible but this movie was

It's a pretty fun movie that has no brain whatsoever, but it's nothing offensive to get insulted by.

Just saw it. It was ok, nothing special. I don't know why they decided to change up some of the basic Turtle lore that we have had for like ever now.

still not a fan of the turtle designs or any of the designs really. Shredder just needed to be throw away and built again because his was the most ridiculous design.

Splinters whole story was just bad.

There was some funny bits. Don't know why they made the Turtles super strong.

I missed having that goons having swords instead of having to rely on guns throughout the entire movie.

I also didn't get why Shredder went to the lab, fought Raplh and then left? Like what was the point?

And I didn't understand why April had to be connected to them and responsible for their names and liking of pizza.

I wish Michael Bay could just stay away from adapting these old cartoons.

But the crowd seemed to like it so I guess it did it's job sadly.

Because Michael Bay makes Paramount a lot of cheddar. He ain't going nowheres. ****, I honestly hope he gets involved with the third GI Joe...that **** is right up his alley.

I'm actually amazed that he wasn't he first one approached for G.I. Joe…

That franchise is PERFECT for him.

Well here's my review of the film...

I was an avid supporter of the film since the second trailer was released. I was openly judgmental on my opinion on the initial leaked pictures but then after seeing them in motion a couple times, I was starting to get a little more into the concepts. Sure, I still think all the goofy accessories are a bit much like Raphael's sunglasses (which I still don't know how they fit on his head) and Michelangelo's necklace but there were moments in all the various marketing materials that had me beyond excited to finally see this in the theater. All I really wanted out of this film was the same feeling that I get when I think of TMNT in my mind. Great stories, them being actual "ninjas" and incredible fights with Shredder. I was hoping that we were going to get some of that at least, even in small doses. I've been the TMNT guy beating my chest for this movie hopefully to get a chance as the underdog against the massively successful GOTG and for the Turtles to reign supreme once again. I won an advanced screening last night and I took my younger brother of 4 years to go see it with me who grew up with me loving the TMNT just as much. We're both avid obsessed fans of the Mirage series and the first 1990 movie but we knew we were going into something that was it's own creation while drawing the tone and vibe of mainly the cartoon. Either way, we just wanted to see this damn thing.

Which leads me to my verdict about the film. Guys, it's not a very good movie.

I originally wanted to do pro and con list but I felt I might as well just give some of my thoughts after seeing the film. The plot is horribly thin and never feels confident in the story it's trying to tell. I read a review that said that this movie is often embarrassed by it's material at times and I'd almost agree with that. It's one thing to change an origin story and add/leave out certain things because you feel it benefits the new story you're trying to tell but in the case of this movie, it doesn't add anything to it. I felt that Splinter and the Turtles just learning karate because this is how they should be protected was a weak excuse to try to give the fans something to latch on to as something familiar.

You can tell that this is the kind of movie that needed a director with a creative vision. Everything feels like a giant compromise to just put something out because the studio was expecting a brand new Ninja Turtle film but all of the backlash from what they were originally WANTING to do caused them to go back and add things that they didn't fully understand why people are fans of those aspects. Aside from being let down from that, my brother and I's two favorite Ninja Turtles are Raph (me) and Mikey (him) and they were probably the worst written of the Turtles. I'll never understand the desire to continue to write Michelangelo as an idiot and obnoxious. I get it he's the goofier one, but Mikey borders on a bumbling moron half the film and it was extremely on the nose. I always gave 2007 TMNT **** for it's use of horrible fight scenes and while some moments in this new one are nice, I still feel like I'm just watching a video game cut scene with Shredder and the Turtles.

I guess if I have to give this film credit is that it's cinematography at times is very nice and the opening sequence as well as Shredder's first appearance gave me straight goosebumps but this film misses the mark on so many things. I just was disappointed overall by how Raphael and Michelangelo were handled, the putting Shredder in there without giving him a good motive and the thin and forgettable plot.

I didn't want to dislike this really, but it is what it is. I'll still love the TMNT of course and nothing will take them away from me (hyping for this movie has brought back my TMNT comic love again)....but I almost hope this franchise doesn't continue and we get an eventual re-imagining somewhere down the line. I guess I'm just not as excited to see more stories told in this TMNT universe.

And for the record, I still stand by the fact that the original 1990 film still holds up and is probably one of the best comic book adaptations ever produced. Those who think the franchise was entirely silly probably didn't read any of the Mirage comic books and doesn't understand the true source material. Sure, the cartoons were goofy but that was the KID's cartoon. If you don't like TMNT, that's one thing....but to just assume the franchise as a whole should be overlooked as goofy is assuming you can think the same thing for something like Guardians of the Galaxy. There just needs to be someone with a passion for the source material that can make it work like the original 1990 movie did.

I saw it last week, finally! As a TMNT movie 7/10, as a movie in general 6/10.

Good stuff:

- the design of the Turtles. Loved everything about the design, except the size of Raphael. They looked like weirdly lovable mutated freaks with hints of "uncanny valley", just as Turtles should, IMO.
- characterization of the Turtles was spot on.
- its a fun movie, humor was good, action was good, effects were good. Fun way to spend an hour and half.
- story is OK, very predictable but OK overall. Villains' plan made sense, heroes were interesting enough.

Bad stuff:

- it felt like a entire subplot was cut from the final film, so the film is kinda disjointed. There are some leaps in logic and points that felt rushed (similar to Daredevil movie). Maybe they should have left that rumored reincarnation subplot or something. Maybe they'll fix this in the sequel or maybe they will release some sort of extended edition or something.

Nitpicking, just because:

- Eric Sachs could be renamed Baxter Stockman and nothing would have changed story wise (but would probably win over some more fans). There was no "who's the Shredder" mystery going on, so the name and backstory of Eric didn't matter.
- Not showing Shredder's pre-augmentation armor was missed opportunity. And I hoped to see that silly chain mail, razor edged cape from concept art, just for the spectacle of it.
- I was not too fond of Turtles being way too strong and their shells being bulletproof.

"Totally not related but I had a need to state it" stuff:

- Kids here loved the movie and the new cartoon series is big over here and, as TMNT fan, it makes me happy. Its cool to see new generation of fans.

Saw it last night finally (hard to find a babysitter). Loved it as a summer popcorn flick that entertained me and set out to do what it wanted. All the turtle personalities are there along with splinter being splinter even though he seemed a bit too tough on the turtles and shredder was one note.

I think the story would have worked better if eric sachs was shredder given his story would have made more sense with shredders conclusion in the end. I tihnk the story was good for a retelling and reintroduction of the characters but next time out I would like to see the stakes raised.

4/5

Overall the movie was fine enough, pros and cons.

Pros = Turtles personalities where all what they should have been but not too over the top as i feared they'd be. Ralph is brooding and angry nearly all the time, but not to the point where he's extremely unlikeable. Michaelangelo and his constant jabs at april got bit old at certain point, but it seemed lighthearted to me not really creepy.. though she was sorta like his mother figure so that kinda makes it a little creepy. Donatello is my favourite turtle and i'd fear they'd mess him up badly due to how over the top cliche nerdy he looks. But he was the best and they didn't go over the top with him being a nerd, ocassional dorky laugh here a nd there sure. But they really showed off how smart he is, and how valuable to the team he is. And he's not a snively coward, he showed lots of guts when he ask to be the hero for once. Loved his little duel with shredder at the end too.

The voices, i thought all the voices fit well, i dunno any of the voice actors besides Johny knoxville. I like Knoxville but him as leonardo seemed kinda random, but his voice fit as the calm rational leader of the bunch. I liked splinter's voice, not quite what i expected but it wasn't bad. I also really liked shredder's voice, specially when he talked japanese, intimidating and not that different from the 90's film shredder. One guy on here claimed 90's shredder had a silly cartoon voice, i wonder if he thinks this one does aswell cause they sounded quite alike. I am also glad they kept his face hidden through the whole film, keep some mystery there ( Though i unfortunately already saw a clear image on here of his face).

Length: One one hand it feels rushed, on the other i was ok with a quick 90 minute film. It kinda made it feel like a long live action episode of the 80's cartoon, silly plothole filled plot helped with that aswell, cause of that i didn't even mind the villain's flawed plan.

The side characters : Not too many of them, and not overly annoying. Will arnett's vern could have easilly been the mudflaps and skid of the film but they didn't make him over the topobnoxious and annoying, i liked him. Sachs is not a great character but fitchner has such a cold stoic presence that he makes the character work. Fox as o neil was alright, best acting i've seen from her, she seemed to atleast try. Just not that interresting of a character, but most of the time April isnt anyway so it's not that big of a deal to me.

The snow scene: I was suprised how into this scene i was, everyone got to be heroic, it looked beautiful, didn't go too fast, could see it all, and it was just a fun scene.

The Shredders fights : I just enjoy seeing shredder whoop some ass, i was surprised by how one sided the fight with splinter got and i didn't mind it. I am used to seeing splinter get the better of shredder so it was a welcome change for me. His fight with raph was also alright, mainly cause again i expected raph to get some offense and he got none which sold how dangerous shredder is that even the biggest strongest turtle got manhandled. The final fight was great fun,all the turtles getting a crack at shredder, shredder tripple flying kicking, doing massive wrestling throws. And in the end he didn't really get beat in the fight, they only got one real good move in against him. It was nice to see a villain looking strong throughout the whole film.

Cons : Leonardo doesn't do much, he's the leader but besides a few select moments there's no real big scene for him to show it, it's raph who gets the main focus. Even in the end when they decide to do the game thing to beat shredder, it was michaelangelo who comes up with it. I really hope they focus a bit more on him in the sequel cause he was likeable, just needed more to do.

Foot clan, i am ok with them using guns and weapons and all, but f or them to not be able to fight at all i am not ok with. I will have to see it again but i don't think any of them even tried to fight hand to hand, now ok the turtles were huge but still i wanted to see foot clan show atleast some moves.

Turtles size: the way they look i can accept, but they were a bit too big and often in action scenes they focused far too much on that and on how strong they were, raphael swingin containers was ridiculous.

Lack of connection or history between Shredder and splinter. Beating a dead horse i know, but the fight between them would have been even better if there was history between them.

Karai, she's a non character, she doesn't do anything cept quickly get beaten.

Some forced lines, i like that they put i dine on turtle soup in there, but it seemed very oddly placed to me.

Few shakey action scenes.

April sorta getting the last blow to Shredder.. it reminded me of catwoman and bane( Who i thought was great), having the big bad villain get beaten in that way sucks. But atleast he still lives.

I'd say 7, mayyyybe 7,5. better than i expected. Hoping for Krang in the sequel, he's due for a film appereance.

as someone who has been VERY critical of the movie since it was announced
i must admit i was very impressed with it

a few areas could've been better but overall i liked what i saw
even megan fox was good

7/10

Just got back from seeing it. Wasnt expecting much going in from the reviews and it was pretty much as expected. Entertaining but pretty flawed at the same time. The Turtles themselves were pretty well done and had some moments of humor, Mikey especially, but the rest was pretty ropey stuff. Cliched villains, some pretty bad dialogue and some rather head scratching plot conveniences that just left you going WTF. Action was ok and CGI pretty solid throughout.

I mean if you turn your brain off its not horrible like I though it might be but there' not a lot to hang on to in it.

Will give it 6/10 but thats probably a tad generous. Perhaps a sequel might have potential but I wouldnt be super hyped for it.

It's a fun movie. :D
Dumb fun franchise, this film stands by that rule.

Soulless, charmless, badly written piece of CGI crap. 4/10, and i´m being nice here.

The plot is just a badly executed version of something we´ve already seen so many times. Everything feels rushed and clunky and the frenetic pace gets exhaustive pretty fast. The characters are all one-dimensional and poorly developed. The atmosphere and intensity of the first one are gone and all we´re left with is cheap CGI graphics. Everything looks so freaking bad. Everything is so heartless and forgetable. It makes me sad to think someone got paid millions to make this. My grandma would have done a better job.

Shame on anyone who supports trash like this. They´re the reason why Hollywood keeps making crap. It´s because of you i will never get a decent TMNT movie.
