:hehe:

Seriously though,I get some of the changes weren't everyone's cup of tea.I think they're still in a good place going forward.

Yeah, I agree, the movie is good enough. It's not one of those movies they need to reboot after five years or something. Just make a better sequel.

Now, now...they may be drinkers, Terry and Torch, but they're also human beings...:woot:

Well that's debatable.

Also no one on this board has seen my face (that I know of) but we've all seen the movie and it is awful.

Creatively I disagree. They dismantled some very important things that made the characters and story appealing while relying on the goodwill of the audience already knowing and liking it to overlook these things.

I think the best example of this of Splinter and Shredder acting like mortal enemies despite the fact that they've never met or have any connection to each other.

Of course just because Leibesman found the idea of including a back story for Splinter and Shredder "too complicated" - his words doesn't necessarily that another director couldn't do that but wouldn't it be a stretch now which I think is an important point; even though Paramount have said they wanted to go in a different direction with the sequel just how different can they go and still have this be a sequel?

Commercially speaking I'm not sure they are in such a strong place.

The movie has made a profit (not as much as people think) but while money is obviously the bottom line to studios I don't think they are entirely oblivious to audience reaction otherwise Batman & Robin, Superman Returns and Green Lantern would have gotten sequels.

I think they are well aware just because they persuaded people to go once doesn't necessarily mean they can count on it a second time. Hence why they have publicly stated they want to go in a different direction to Leibesman's take - they may as well be saying "we know y'all thought it was crap but don't give up on us. The second one will better we promise" But like I said how different can they really make it? I'd argue that if they were really committed to it we'd be getting a bigger name director not one with only one reasonably big movie under his belt. It kinda seems like they don't have faith in the sequel will do better so are maximizing their profits by cutting corners elsewhere.

Same with Nemec & Applebaum returning. We have a good idea Paramount didn't like their Blue Door script hence them halting production completely and ordering them to re-write but since they already paid for that script it's probably cheaper to get them to adapt the second half of that script that went unused then hire a new writer to come up with a new script from scratch.

What really troubles me is that Evan Daugherty is not returning. He was supposedly hired to help with the re-writes because he had some passing knowledge of the franchise but I guess that's another thing they don't want to shell out for.

Also I should point out that unlike Bebop and Rocksteady, Casey Jones has not been confirmed to appear in the sequel. They've said they would like to use him but seem they're having trouble fitting him in there. I'm guessing he's kinda "too complicated" like Hamato Yoshi either that or they don't want to pay another actor for this but hey who needs Casey Jones when you have "fan favorite" Vern Thompson, right?

I agree that the glaring problem with the film is the lack of the Splinter/Shredder dynamic. But they still seemed to hate each other.....there was just no reason given why. It'll probably come across more contrived being given after the fact, but if they can sell it as this devastating secret only Splinter knows,it could still be successful.

Shredder is the reason the lab was set on fire and the rat and the turtles almost burnt to death, if not for April. Splinter has his reason to fear and loathe the Shredder.

And Shredder didn't really look at Splinter as an old foe.
I didn't mind Iron-Shredder. The TMNT are giants in this one, so a robotic suit makes sense. By the way...am I the only one who thinks [BLACKOUT]Shredder is an alien (utrom) in this version? He said something about "weak humans" didn't he? I waited for the big reveal, but nothing happened...I wouldn't be surprised if the alien crawled out of his exo-suit when he hit the ground. Maybe he'll show up in the sequel.[/BLACKOUT]
This is based mostly on the old cartoon, so I doubt we'll see something from the 4Kids show appear in this film series.

I never liked that idiot Vern from the old show, I hate him more now.
This version of Vern is more Casey Jones than Vernon.

I still don't think [BLACKOUT]Shredder is human. Or, he could be a self-hating human and a member of PETA? After all, he burned down the laboratory:woot: [/BLACKOUT]

But we'll see. I look forward to the sequel.

Shredder: "Prepare to die, rat!"

Splinter: "Not before I tell everyone about your little secret, Oroku Saki!"

Shredder: "Secret? Heheh...uhmm...let's make a deal. I'll just leave you freaks in peace and..."

Splinter: "He wears a bra under the armor!"

Shredder: "Noooooooooooo!:cmad: *jumps from rooftop*"

Maybe self loathing.
LOL,[blackout] if he was PETA he wouldn't risk the lives of the rat, or the turtles.[/blackout]
:oldrazz:

:hehe:
Or [blackout]it's part of his secret ninja training nutrition, eat rats before breakfast.[/blackout]

[BLACKOUT]No, it's turtle soup that he eats before breakfast. :o[/BLACKOUT]
