Just saw it tonight, its an enjoyable movie and fun to watch, no doubting that, but yeah, there are some really dumb and cliche moments that really bring it down.

Thankfully the Turtles themselves were great, their personalities were superb and they were brilliantly realised. My only peeve with was Leo (my favourite since I was a kid) getting the shaft big time, especially in terms of hero moments, I thought he was lacking in that area.

Splinter was great, and such a bad ass, Shredder was awesome, and was totally believable as a threat, Megan Fox gave a good performance as well, and this is the hottest she has looked since the TF movies which is always a plus! The action was really well done, there is no doubting Liebesman can stage a good action sequence, but everything else from him is a bit lacking, I personally hope another director takes over for the sequel, but I doubt thats going to happen.

I went in looking to be entertained and transported back to my childhood, and I got that, as entertainment, I give the movie a 7/10 rating, though as a movie it would probably be more of a 5, but as I said, it entertained me and I had fun watching it.

When I think about it, this movie is more like the Fred Wolf series than anything else, if you enjoy the old 80s show and think more about it, this movie is pretty much a homage to that series.
It embraces the silliness, even under that serious cover.

Of course, there are differences:
  • Shredder is more similar to the Mirage Comics version, with an armor similar to that of the 4Kids series, and his claws are pretty much similar to Vulture's wings in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows videogame.
  • No Kraang, Dimension X, or Technodrome.
  • April does not get kidnapped every episode.
  • Raphael is his more grouchy Mirage Comics self.
  • Splinter is a rat, not a man.
  • And Vernon has a touch of Casey Jones, instead of being the annoying jerk everyone loves to mock, he's useful.

It's not like the execution of that show is good either.
And this is a Michael Bay production, if you are familiar with his work, then you should definitely expect to find some of his claw marks.

It was good for a 5 year old kid like me, in the early 90´s. It gave me something to get attached to. It gave me the opportunity to hang out with the turtles and get to know them. This movie doesn´t even give me a reason to like the turtles in the first place. Not because they´re hideous but because there is zero character development and we don´t get to spend any time in their world. The movie is more like: "Ok, here are the turtles, here is a dumb *****, here is shredder, fight!".

It´s poor. I´m sorry. And the problem is that they could have done it a lot better and they chose not to.The show was not a masterpiece, but back then they were testing waters. This is 2014 and we have more than enough information to come up with a good film about the turtles. We know what works and what doesn´t work. We know what fans want. We know what people expect from a movie. And they just ignored it. Pure Hollywood garbage.

Liked it more than the 90's version. Ninjutsu from a book trumps a RAT learning it by watching a ninja master any day of the week. The characters are pretty spot on but let's be honest here, the movie is nothing more than serviceable and could have been so much more.

I was disappointed. I've been a defender of this movie since it was announced, and I wanted to love it. I liked it, but I didn't love it.

The turtles were great, they were funny, charming, their interactions were great. Will Arnett was awesome.

It was obvious they rewrote the story several times and they reshot a lot too. The story was uninteresting. Shredder has no personal conflict with splinter, and that's a pity.

But what disappointed me the most was the action. while the snow chase scene was great, everything else was really meh. There wasn't a single really good fight. Where are the martial arts dammit?

Where are the martial arts dammit?

They could literally have hired any martial artist and motion captured the moves and placed the moves on CG turtles. The sky was the limit and the martial arts was a non entity in the movie. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

90´s version is better. Just that scene between Splinter and Raphael beats anything in this new movie.

Oh, and everything looks better. The sewers actually look wet, dark and disgusting. In the new movie everything is clean and fake looking. No charm at all.

Speaking of the first movie, I LOOOVED the nod to that with the pizza slicing by Leonardo's katanas, it's a replica of that scene from the first movie.

I thought it was hit and miss, Leo and Raph looked great, but Mikey looked off and I thought giving Donnie those glasses because he's the scientific one was stupid. On the human side Fitchner can do that role in his sleep but I actually liked Megan Fox as April and I thought her duo with Vern was nice, light fun.

The story and reworked origin was ok, connected April to the Turtles was fine but messing with Splinter's history made him teaching them to be Ninja via a book pretty weak.

Shredder and The Foot were a disappointment, making Shredder into a Samurai Iron Man just didn't work and the lack fo scenes where he had the chance to be the menacing and sinister figure he is was a waste, and the Foot looking like mercs from a recent TV show was lazy.

On the action front the snow chase scene was brilliant, and the finale on top of the building was decent, the rest of the sequences were a mess though, you could barely see what was happening. None of the straight up fight scenes matched the Turtles vs the Foot's midway encounter in the 1990 movie.

The banter between the Turtles at least worked well, I didn't have a problem with them modernizing it a bit and their personalities felt true.

Overall I had fun and got some nostalgic feels, but like with G.I. Joe the room to improve a lot with a sequel is there.

7/10

^No matter what people say, the movie has been a success, a big one in fact, I do hope we get another director for the sequel, but I am still looking forward to it anyway.

I enjoyed the film. I already had an idea it wouldn't be everything I'd hoped it to be, but I had a lot of fun watching the movie. The turtles themselves I thought were pretty good, Fox as April was a bit hit and miss at times though. I'm hopeful with the way the movie ended that we could see the introduction of more mutant bad guys for sequels.

******Spoilers*****

I watched TMNT yesterday, and it's not as bad as some people say. My biggest problem with it is the size of the Turtles...and while I liked the origin story in this one, I prefer the one from the first comics/90s movie. It's more "epic", if you know what I mean.

I didn't mind Iron-Shredder. The TMNT are giants in this one, so a robotic suit makes sense. By the way...am I the only one who thinks [BLACKOUT]Shredder is an alien (utrom) in this version? He said something about "weak humans" didn't he? I waited for the big reveal, but nothing happened...I wouldn't be surprised if the alien crawled out of his exo-suit when he hit the ground. Maybe he'll show up in the sequel.[/BLACKOUT]

I still think the 90's movie is the best one, but let's give the new version a chance...it's not a masterpiece, but pretty fun and entertaining. Maybe the sequel will be even better?

6 or 7 out of 10

Considering Bebop and Rocksteady have been confirmed for the sequel, it makes sense. I hope they maintain the origin of Shredder just finding two NY thugs that want power due to being humilated by the turtles.

Yep, with a new director I have high hopes the sequel will better the first movie, despite finding it enjoyable.

Casey Jones too.

:awesome:

Casey Jones was one of my favorite TMNT characters as a kid. I think they should include Slash (Archie comics version) too:woot:

Yep, with a new director I have high hopes the sequel will better the first movie, despite finding it enjoyable.

I think it's funny that the new director is called Dave "Green". And Amazing Spider-Man had "Webb". Heheheeehh...:yay:
