Begins looks fine. It is not set at any fixed point in time. It is suppose to be timeless. Just like the comics.Me too. In general, I love how everything in the flashbacks to Clark's childhood seems to have a period appearance, included the kids' clothing and Pete's glasses. Granted, it seems that even present day Smallville will look like it is stuck in the past to an extent and that is extremely fitting.
I have to admit that one of the things that bugged me (in a very small nerdy, pet peeve sort of way) about Batman Begins is how no efforts were taken to make anything about the flashbacks to Bruce's childhood look like they happened 20 years earlier. Thomas Wayne has an extremely modern hairstyle (should have had a Yuppie mullet ), the Gotham skyline has some very modern buildings, and people are driving late 90s/early 2000s cars. Also, Alfred hasn't aged a day, but ages rather considerably in the "decade" that follows.
Guess it was just on my mind watching the latest Movie Moan and remembering how much effort was put into that aspect of Superman: The Movie. I'm glad to see that Man of Steel has similar attention to such little details (not that they will make a huge difference in the quality of the film, but they help establish atmosphere and passage of time).
Not sure how much "period" there is in MoS, considering Johnathan's truck.
Lara is a major milf.
Superman has the best mothers.
