I love how they made them look much younger.

Me too. In general, I love how everything in the flashbacks to Clark's childhood seems to have a period appearance, included the kids' clothing and Pete's glasses. Granted, it seems that even present day Smallville will look like it is stuck in the past to an extent and that is extremely fitting.

I have to admit that one of the things that bugged me (in a very small nerdy, pet peeve sort of way) about Batman Begins is how no efforts were taken to make anything about the flashbacks to Bruce's childhood look like they happened 20 years earlier. Thomas Wayne has an extremely modern hairstyle (should have had a Yuppie mullet ), the Gotham skyline has some very modern buildings, and people are driving late 90s/early 2000s cars. Also, Alfred hasn't aged a day, but ages rather considerably in the "decade" that follows.

Guess it was just on my mind watching the latest Movie Moan and remembering how much effort was put into that aspect of Superman: The Movie. I'm glad to see that Man of Steel has similar attention to such little details (not that they will make a huge difference in the quality of the film, but they help establish atmosphere and passage of time).

^ I could be wrong, but MOS seems better CONCEPTUALIZED than the TDK trilogy. A "real world" experience meets a superhero one, rather than everything being realistic. Not that a lot of crazy and unrealistic things don't happen in the TDK trilogy, but I don't want to bring them up, because that would take the focus away from the \S/

Let's not forget the legendary bully from 1983's A Christmas Story! (He didn't wear glasses and wasn't overweight though)

Funny thing, I knew a kid in grade school who looked EXACTLY like this guy. And he was a f**king prick.

...so if this is young Clark (playing at wearing a red cape) I am wondering what the explanation will be.

Also note the dog. Is that suppose to be the same dog as in the Alaska shots?

That would be cool. I use to go on journeys with my dog however, never to Alaska lol

...if it's not they should have picked a different "looking" dog.

It bugs me in some films when (for no plot related reason) they choose actors that look and dress similar and you can't tell who's who...

That he thought it would be cool to wear a cape?

I am wondering what young Clarks inspiration would be. If there were no other super heroes wearing capes then why. Also would be too much of a coinkadink if when he grows up his Kryptonian uniform just happens to have a cape...

...cool like this?:yay:

It's wonderful foreshadowing and an almost poetic way of showing the Superman inside of him. Does it make sense in a more literal way? No, but that's the beauty of movies like this.

Regarding Clark running around with a cape. I swear i read somewhere a long time ago, that the smallville sports team's mascot is spartan based. So possibly, Clark is pretending to be a spartan warrior ?

In Action Comics in the New 52 Clark had lurid dreams of his vague infant memorys of Krypton and he sees all the other Kryptonians in capes. I know we can't remember anything from that age, but Kryptonians might be able too.

Pre-crisis they were able to remember stuff like that thanks to their "super-memories". Considering how much Morrison has been trying to revive the Pre-crisis version of the character and its mythology, it would make sense that he is bringing the super-eidetic memory from birth thing too.

But he's Superman. He is the original one to wear a cape, he has to have the idea to wear a cape sometime. Why not when he's a kid?

It doesn't even have to make literal sense imo. It's even more poetically beautiful without it. Great imagery either way.

Can someone tell me why Guillermo Del Toro is bullying Clark Kent?

I scanned the full article from the german magazine "Cinema", so if want it, just ask.

For now, here are some pictures (only "MoS" related, there are also pictures about others Superman movies and TV shows) :

...but if it's his home world dress, he wouldn't get the idea that it's a cool thing to wear, it is already Krytonian garb.

I do think the Spartan idea may have legs and also will be an interesting parallel.

Snyder you crafty devil....

I love that Clark's cape is attached to his shirt with clothes pins. I don't know why but I really dig it, makes me think Martha attached it for him.

I hope the Spartan thing is true because that would be a hilarious inside joke.
