This is the "permawhite" debate for Man of Steel. When TDK was coming out, a lot of people were upset that the Joker wasn't permawhite and that he was wearing makeup. They thought that the color of his skin was an essential part of the character. In fact, it was just fan boyism - being upset that the iconography doesn't match comic book dream. When the movie came out the fresh approach on the Joker worked perfectly; it helped ground the whole thing a little more and made it less cartoonish.
It's the same here. I know the vibrant red, yellow, and blue seems like a cornerstone, but it is truly not necessary to the character or to the story. It's just your fanatic nostalgia coming through. I think nocking the colors down like they have will probably make Superman more reasonable and relatable, - more like a man and less like a comic book character.
I think that it is safe to say that the suit's blue colour tone will change throughout the film depending on the light source & environment.I hope the suit looks like this throughout the movie.
It's strange, the suit looks like such a thick materiel, but it still kinda clings to his muscles. Either Henry is super ripped, so ripped that his muscles show through a
n extremely thick suit, or the suit itself is moulded to make him look more muscular.
Although Cavill was super ripped during filming, it is the latter. A recent interview with Mackenzie Gray confirmed that there is a middle "rubber" layer molded to Cavill's muscles. Muscle is muscle and it is soft and fleshy. It will always be compressed and flattened out by tight clothing, especially something as thick and textured as the new Supersuit. A muscle suit worn under the costume is completely necessary to maintain the appearance of a Comic Book physique no matter how built the actor is. However, they should be praised for making a very good one this time around.
I don't think it's a fair comparison because the only time we see Reeve shirtless is when he's in bed with Kidder in Superman II without the benefit of being in some intense action sequence and covered in sweat and bodyhair, but comparing them in their respective suits, I think Reeve looks beefier. Over all, visually he's the total package as far as Superman is concerned, and Cavill hasn't quite topped him in my eyes.
Even in the suit, Cavill looks better than Reeve in my opinion, body-wise. Beefier doesn't mean more ripped or muscular. For me, as a person that's been into bodybuilding and weight-lifting for quite a while, Cavill looks much more impressive. But I can understand people liking Reeve's appearance more.
I'm no bodybuilding expert, but Reeve still looks bigger to me in the suit. Not just taller, but bigger. I have doubts Cavill could have pulled off spandex and nothing else, meaning no layer of rubber under the suit. And aside from the muscles, I think Reeve had a better face for Superman. He seems more masculine and mature, even considering Reeve was around 24 when he made the first movie and Cavill was around 28 when he made Man of Steel.
I say there's a beam.![]()
Jus' curious, whats in the movie guide?
