So let me get this straight? People don't miss the red trunks??????????????? ?????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

nope, because they did a damn fine job making a suit that looks great without them, plus, just look at some of the manips people have done that added trunks, even the well done ones that added them while keeping with the overall design of the new suit don't look good.

i'm just sayin.... it's not looking right

I'm not seeing what you are seeing. I wish you could see what the rest of us are seeing because it is frigging awesome!

I was okay with Reeve and even the imfamous Routh costume. I'm not a trunks hater but I prefer live action Superman suits without them.

Again I wouldn't have cried if they kept them, a trunkless live action costume is just my personal preference.

There's an article where Zach explained that the red briefs originated from acrobats who wore them over leggings as an illusion to appear naked. I can't look that the red briefs the same ever again.

Yeah, red briefs wouldn't look right in this movie. They would have to add it on all the other Kryptonians and that would look even weirder.

That's a very good point.

^ I know! It'd be harder to take the costume seriously with them! :D

I don't have that problem personally, but I do think the lack of trunks makes the suit look more convincing as the customary apparel of an advanced alien civilization without them. I guess that is what I get for watching a lot of Star Trek: TNG as a kid: an eternal association between monochromatic bodysuits and aliens. :woot:

The trunks were fine in the 70's... But the new MOS suit is the most badass superman suit ever! It's both sleeker, simpler and a hell of a lot cooler because the trunks are NOT there! It's updated while maintaining it's classic nature. In other words - it's perfect!

nah, the cape and boots are outdated too

better put him in a hoodie and jeans instead

and make the superman symbol smaller, like a patch

and don't call him superman, just the blur or something

yeah that sounds fantastic

Not complaining about the suit at all, but since when has Superman suppose to be badass? That is Batman's job.

Nah. Make him bald too. And turn his body inside out. And make his love interest a mailbox with Down Syndrome. And call him The What. I disagree with you on the cape though...the cape needs to stay.

I'm kinda wondering how the suit would look with a shorter cape. I think the new suit would work regardless of cape length.

Thank you! I'm so happy to know someone else was thinking it. All Naite's posts ever seem to be about is wanting Superman to be an angry god and a badass and, all the while, I'm thinking to myself that is not what Supes is about or what makes him great in my opinion. If that is what you want, there are other heroes who fit that profile more closely.

It's not an issue of updating Superman for a modern audience. The audience in 1978 allegedly had the same issues with Superman being a Big Blue Boyscout. I was reminded of that fact when the video of Reeve's behind the scenes preparation for the role was posted earlier tonight in this thread. Reeve has this part where he explains what is great about Superman is that where you would normally roll your eyes at someone for saying they stand for truth, justice and the American way, you believe it when Superman says it and you admire him for it.

"Badass" (in the States at least) can have more than one meaning. :yay:

badass [ˈbædˌæs] Slang chiefly US
adj
1. tough or aggressive a badass rock band
2. excellent a real badass watch

Well I also think when some people say badass they mean a suit people would look at and take seriously.

Superman is the guy that could be sitting in your living room wearing underwear on the outside, and you'd take him very seriously, not because of his abilities, because of his sincerity.

What might be hokey for others isn't for him. Because he believes it and you believe him.

If you read enough of Naite's post, you understand the context.

This.

It can be both I think (if that makes any sense). A really awesome suit that "people would look at and take seriously".
