To Believe or Not To Believe? (SHOW RESPECT, OR RISK A BAN) - Part 2

I was busy working yesterday and then I decided to go to the gym last night so I missed the Killing Jesus show. It looked like it was going to be interesting. So I'll see if there is a re-run some time and see what I think.

But I did watch the next part of Finding Jesus on CNN. This time it was about the true cross. A team of scientists were able to get one piece that was said to be from the true cross, but the piece was dated to around 1000 so it couldn't be from it.

I did not catch Killing Jesus last night but I did catch "Going Clear" the Scientology documentary on HBO last night and my God, those people have no business being called a religion. The utter insanity of what they believe, how they treat their "faithful" as well as how they hoard all their money and basically blackmailed the IRS into getting religious tax exempt status is reprehensible. Being that I live in Clearwater I see those nutjobs all the time downtown since one of the main bus terminals is right next to their compound. Did anyone else catch this?

I haven't seen the documentary but I've read a lot about Scientology and it's actually scary what goes on there.

That said, no church should be exempt from paying taxes.

I'm not supporting Scientology, but I find it odd when people condemn Tom Cruise for his belief in it. As if other forms of religion are so much more grounded.

Look at Islam. What is the penalty for apostasy in Islam? In Christianity the bible states that a woman who is not a virgin on the night of her wedding should be punished by death penalty. Cursing a parent or using God's name in vein is also punishable by death penalty.

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10)

Picking and choosing what is relevant, actually ignores what makes the bible outdated and flawed for terms of legitimacy.

A time before scientific understanding is obvious. Also in Leviticus:

Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)

:o

Oh and always remember:

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

It just strikes me odd that due to Cruise having another ideology/religion that he is to be mocked for having "the wrong belief"

Of course as the bible says:

If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

I condemn Tom Cruise more for things like wiretapping Nicole Kidman's phone and many other things.

I don't know details of those incidents. I know that the majority of Cruise haters/trollers are fixated on his religion. I just find it baffling with all that I posted above in regards to biblical law, that people can say scientology is that much crazier. :loco:

The difference between Scientology and the Abrahamic religions is that Scientology is only 60 years old and therefore easier to discredit. We pretty much know for sure that the founder was a charlatan, whereas the true origins of Christianity and Islam are more complicated.

I do agree that attacking Tom Cruise's beliefs while believing in some really crazy stuff yourself is hypocritical. Scientology is "out there" but not that far removed from the craziness in the Bible or Qu'ran.

This was the point/argument my post was pertaining to.

Yeah I want to see Going Clear too. I'm curious as to what it's about.
..Tom Cruise still makes great movies though..

If you want to know more about what the Scientologist do read this

http://gawker.com/audit-this-the-most-disturbing-scientology-stories-of-1694435486

That is barely even a fraction of what they do
Some of that sounds like rumor not corroborated by evidence. As for the members who have done questionable to wrong things, I yet again would say we've seen the same extremism in Christianity. There are good members who happen to be scientologists and bad members, just like the christian world.

David Koresh a christian memorized the bible by age 11, obviously was not a scientologist.

Michael Bray in the name of christianity ideology wanted to blow up 10 abortion clinics.

Paul Jennings Hill murdered due to his christian views on abortion.

The Heaven's Gate leader Applewhite was not a scientologist. He was a Christian.

I wonder since there are like 40,000 denominations of Christianity, are they serving a "different" God and would they be liable by the religion according to Deuteronomy to kill and destroy each other until the "true God" is being served? Many of these Christians will say if you are under a different order, you are falsely worshiping. A Jehovah's Witness will say if you don't recognize Jehovah there is no paradise for you after Armageddon. They believe in 144,000 chosen people to go to heaven. How many people of this religion alive and those whom have died in the past have claimed to be part of this number? More than 144,000 I'm sure. Muslims believe in 72 virgins being rewarded to the men of the religion. Apparently you can have sex in heaven. Who knew?

The point of all this diatribe is that there is some scoffing and laughter, as well as condemnation for aspects of scientology (and rightly so in and of itself)... but some people actually believe they can laugh from a higher level of christianity or islam in order to point out how flawed other religions are??????????????????????????? HUH.

I won't view Cruise as any more crazy for his religious choice (that tends to be the main reason for his mockery), as I would a Catholic priest.

Re: Killing Jesus
In the ten minutes I watched,it involved:
Jesus washing a leper woman's face. (I'm guessing the extent of His Divine Powers displayed.)
Herod licking Salome's knee during her famous dance.:whatever:
A disturbingly graphic beheading of John the Baptist.:barf:
After that,I was pretty sure this movie wasn't for me. Maybe A.D will be better.

I'm not exactly a fan of Christianity. At all. But, there is a major difference between the two organizations. Christianity, at least as far as I know, doesn't have outlines from the religion founder to ruin the lives of anyone who speaks out against them nor does the head of the organization keep people in a trailer full of bugs without food and water, beat them and torture them with water under extremely cold air conditioners. This is not a case of bad apples, this is clearly a case of the group itself torturing, blackmailing and threatening members as well as forcing them to cut off all ties to anyone who questions their religion. Religion is the wrong term for them, they're a cult that we know was created by a greedy man based on his sci fi novels.

So I went to Nat geo channel and searched all the way until next Monday and I couldn't find a Killing Jesus re-run anywhere. Was it just a one time thing?

As for A.D I am looking forward to that.

I got into an argument with someone on another forum about this --->
does anyone think this could be why harada wanted to add an arab character --> http://megagames.com/news/namco-changes-tekken-floor-pattern-appease-muslim-fans
No.

It's because there's a large Arab fanbase.
I should've said contributing factor, I didn't mean that it could explain the sole reason why.
Writing God's name on the floor that characters are stepping on? Yeah, of course that's not offensive. /sarcasm.

It's not even a contributing factor. The devs have said in interviews that they had wanted to create an Arab character for a long while. They tried with Zafina but that character didn't connect with the Arab fanbase (because she's more ancient Egyptian) as much as Shaheen is right now.
come on, man. if you wanna get into the details, i'm pretty sure in Islam no symbols are supposed to be given that much value - in this case, the arabic word for god which is somewhat symbolic is still not any actual representation of god whatsoever otherwise it would be consider idol worship, amounting to one of the worst sins in Islam. all things considered, nothing was intentionally OR inherently offensive, and I really just think the voice of Muslim people often just complain about things too much. a similar thing happened with a katy perry video, as well as littlebigplanet and both of those times I don't their arguments had merit either.

Zafina was supposed to be made to connect to the Arab fanbase? Hm, really don't see how. Shaheen looks like a cool character though, and a good guy ("I don't want to fight you", "I am not happy about this victory").
Are you kidding me? Muslims don't even touch the Quran before performing ablution. Treating the Quran or God's name in respect doesn't equate to performing idol worship.

I don't even know why you started this random topic out of nowhere.

I don't know much about Tekken, so I'd just be confused if I was on that forum. :ndd:

there was a stage in tekken tag tournament 2 with the word "allah" written on the floor of it where obviously, the characters would run walk around in with shoes on and fight each other.

and more recently, an arab character has been included in the latest installment, tekken 7, and I was hypothesizing if his inception was partly due to the controversy that happened before.

Can't be as bad as game of thrones. :cwink:

That's kinda what I imagine they're trying to appeal to. Certainly a more secular version of the story, than biblical. Given it was based on a book by O'Rielly,I expected something more "conservative."

I'm pretty sure the girl that played Salome was the same girl that played Rahab in "The Bible." Girl's getting typecast.:woot:

Bill O'Reilly is now taking about how great the tv special is. But I still yet to see it so I should save my judgments.

He blames the far left for the phony criticisms.. He's talking about you Human Torch! :hehe:

I did not know it was based on that dumbass O'Reilly's book. Glad I now know so I can avoid it at all cost. That man is what's wrong with America
