To Believe or Not To Believe? (SHOW RESPECT, OR RISK A BAN) - Part 2

I believe that when we die our spirit is free to go wherever in the universe we want to go because pure subatomic energy isn't restricted.

What do you mean free to go like we could go to space if we wanted to?

I personally find there being no afterlife quite comforting.

I'm exactly the opposite. No matter what my beliefs (I do have some religious beliefs) tell me, I fear the idea of nothingness, even if I'll never know it when it comes.

The concept of an "afterlife" is just to comfort people terrified that their existence will end one day and life will go on without them. Did you have a "beforelife" before you were born? No? That's what death is.

Why? What about for people that truly have a bad life or people that die at a really young age?

I guess everybody's expendable good or bad.:csad: Some people leave this world before their time should be over & it is sad but we all have to die whether it be naturally, by illness, or by something fatal like a bad wreck, or being brutally murdered ect. to make way for new people to grow up & question their existence & that chain of life will continue over & over again long after we are gone.

Life has no meaning or concept of "fairness" except what we ascribe to it.

Multi-verse?

Essentially there are multiple parallel universes existing in membranes that we are not aware of. Basically M-theory:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-theory

I believe that the being we try to understand as God is actually the multi-verse itself. It is a being beyond human comprehension. I do identify as a Christian but I believe what some call a soul is really our connection to these different universes. I'm of the mindset that before birth we existed in another state on another plane of existence and the same thing happens in death. I also believe there are an infinite number of parallel universes/membranes

Interesting. Technically an after-life but as a different person?

Not necessarily, in all of these different universes you are still you but on another plane or dimension. From there I don't really know but you are always you.

The concept of an "afterlife" is just to comfort people terrified that their existence will end one day and life will go on without them. Did you have a "beforelife" before you were born? No? That's what death is.

If M-theory is correct that statement would be meaningless

I don't. Never have, probably never will. I don't understand the absolute need for some people to believe in something after death. It's what you do here that counts, not to try and get to a nice place that may or may not exist after you die.

No. But it's a nice thought I sometimes entertaining in my weaker moments.

Yes, I firmly believe that humans survive death. We're hardwired to look beyond our biological and emotional needs, as is evidenced by religious thought and our fascination with the supernatural. It's daunting to think that life is more than just a scramble from the cradle to the grave, but one day the door will swing open for each of us, and we'll walk through only with what we believe. Be ready for that moment.

I want to believe in life after death and the thought of it all just ending and never coming back makes me feel absolutely sick to my stomach, but there's no logical reason to believe that we're more special then the microbes on a toilet seat or the aliens off in space somewhere, and as such, there's no reason to believe we go on.

I wish there was an afterlife but I highly doubt there actually is.

It's the wanting or hoping to see loved ones again that have passed on. As you get older you long to see all those family members that have passed on which may never be again in any existence but it is a person's right to believe whether others feel that it is lost cause or not.

Of course. The soul is eternal. Everything goes somewhere. Nothing truly ceases to exist. Why would the soul be any different?

I want to believe that life...or well death isn't so boring that all you see is black. I like to think that there is something out there where all of us when we die.

Plus I still need to watch my tv shows somewhere, even after death so there better be some place.

Nope, I think that when a person dies, that's it. Pretty hard to be conscious when your brain is rotting. I'm also not that afraid of not existing since I have billions of years of experience of that.

"Do you believe when you die, there's something on the other side?" My answer to that question is yes.

I don't believe in afterlife. We just don't exist anymore after we die.

To be honest I can't really be so comfortable with the idea of nothingness! I wish I could be so crass about it, the fact that I don't remember what it was like before I was born means nothing to me in terms of actually being comforting. Nothingness is still scary regardless, and now I have to experience being before I experience not being, and that sucks.

On a purely non religious level there's just nothing that indicates to me that we live on after we die, and that's terrifying to me, no matter how it's cut.

I don't think it's scary because you won't experience not being. You just don't exist.
