Guardians of the Galaxy To Infinity and Beyond: The Thanos Thread

I honestly don't know what to think about this. It no where near what I was imagining the actor to play this role would be like. Like not even the least, and my first, gut reaction is... "This is a mistake."

But what the hell do I know? Outside of RDJ, which clicked for me the second I heard about it, the actors that have been cast in various roles surprised the hell out of me and so far, they've worked out with flying colors most of the time. I just can't say that I hear a voice even remotely like Brolin's when I think of Thanos. Still, he is a solid actor and the choice could be a hell of a lot worse, considering some of the choices many a fan has put up. And compared to my choices, this is certainly out of the box. So... Seeing as how late in the game this is, does this pretty much mean that Thanos is only going to be in the GoTG post credit scenes, or what? Or is Thanos already in it as a SFX and Brolin is doing the VO?

So does this finally put a nail in the coffin of the 'Collector is Thanos is disguise' nonsense?

You'd think so, but probably not.

Unfortunately with Cherokeesam, no I don't think we will hear the end of it from him haha. Until he actually sees the movie. And then comes back to the forum to deny he ever said it. :oldrazz: At which point Whiskey will go back and find multiple quotes from Cherokee about it. And the fun will begin!

Eh that **** is never what I would call fun.

I know it hasn't... But to let a character as great as the Silver Surfer go to waste would be a shame.

I wonder if that is the character Marvel was looking at Ephron for. He's certainly got the abs for it.

Agreed, but I don't think Marvel has a choice. Fox probably still have their claws in him.

I don't think Efron was/is in serious contention for a role. Seemed like those rumors popped up awfully close to when 'Neighbors' premiered.

Hell yeah, and the fact that it's Brolin in the role is awesome. Yet again, Marvel knocks it out the park. :D

Or he begins speculating that it's only in GOTG that it appears the Collector and Thanos are two separate people, but that all will be revealed later down the line either in GOTG 2 or Avengers 3, or make even in a Marvel One-Shot. :oldrazz:

I've seen a little bit of worry about Brolin's accent for Thanos, but I think it should be fine. First, I don't think he has quite the Texan drawl some believe he has, it's just that he gets cast in a lot of a Westerns and puts it on for that, or at least exaggerates it. Second, I think Thanos having a bit of a gravelly twang as opposed to the more stoic, neutral tones we might have expected could be a move a bit like casting someone with a devious, acerbic voice like James Spader as opposed to someone who sounds flat and robotic for Ultron.... perhaps Marvel are trying to add a glint of humanity to these largely CGI creations to help them jump to life that little bit more?

Thanos is not Darkseid or Apocalypse, hes a god with the mindset ofa spoiled 4 year old.

And yeah Brolin grew up in L.A. so the twang is a testament to how he can switch it up, he don't sound like that in real life.

Hmmm he must like playing Texans then lol. Always thought he was a Texan native.

I hope Marvel doesn't down play his power too much. I want to see him literally laughing off Hulk and Thor's biggest shots.

Hollywood views him as the go to guy for rugged southern boys basically.

Yeah, but he can turn off the drawl. He didn't have it in Wall Street 2 or The Goonies, for example.

There's also a chance that they might alter his voice in editing to make it sound a bit more "alien."

Yeah, I think he'll churn out something awesome for Thanos. I wouldn't expect him to give Thanos a southern drawl. He's a talented guy that knows how to switch his style up.

I was vehemently against Brolin for Batman when we thought that was a possibility, because I don't think that guy should be playing any CBM heroes, period. But Thanos? Yeah, I guess I can approve of this casting.

And weirdly, I think he has a great facial structure for it, lol.

I was thinking the same thing.

If Brolin gets his chin caught in a barbecue grill tray he won't need any make up for Thanos.

I mentioned this a few days ago and think it's a certainty. Even it they just add some bass and effects or whatever. I'm not a sound guy so I don't know the tech lingo but they will most assuredly alter it extensively.

How do you know Brolin isn't playing Del Toro playing the Collector who is secretly Thanos?
