Let's be honest, it's not going to be a name. Probably someone who's already worked with them.

Called it. Two years ago. :o

It's cute that fandom actually believed Feige would give X-Men to an auteur. :funny:

Jake Schreier was probably the best we could have hoped for.

Hm. It’s ok. I guess marvel doesn’t want, like, a Ryan coogler. They want someone who will do what they say

I feel like that's why they chose Chauncey for 97.

They had a meeting last week.
I thought Thunderbolts was just fine but I can see why Marvel has gone with this choice. It’s a safe one, since he’s already has one MCU film under its belt which was received fairly well and that should give him some cred while taking the helm of such a beloved franchise.

The pros is that he has already been shown capable of working with an essemble of characters, tackling some of those human struggles, the dramatic beats worked relatively well, the action was solid for the most part with some stellar and fresh moments…

The cons, i feel like the chemistry wasn’t all that great, the acting was a bit on the forced side at times and the humor was more miss than hit…

So yeh all in all I think it’s an alright choice to helm the next X-Men films and am looking forward to see the development of the new cast and characters in the MCU bubble. Definitely one of my most anticipated projects coming down the pipeline. Now the question is when could it be released… I could see it coming out after Secret Wars with a fresh start for the new group of characters since the old ones are going to be all over Doomsday and probably through SW as well.

either November 2027 or May 2028. (hopefully the later, just a few months after Secret Wars feels wrong in my book, and way too soon, after such a huge movie that will likely conquer all audiences)

The X-Men film needs some breath before making their big premiere, imo.

May 2028 would be perfect in my book. It'll be the 20th Anniversary of the MCU and an X-Men reboot is perfect to symbolize a new beginning for the universe.

I wouldn't have been particularly excited for Coogler either to be honest. Been there, done that.

If it's in-house, I like this choice after I saw Thunderbolts. The humor not landing at times is more of an MCU self- imposed issue, not necessarily a director one. It's frustrating but nothing will change on that front until we get a new CCO at Marvel, or possibly if Disney gets a good CEO.

Coogler checks many boxes in my opinion.

He brought political topics to the MCU; found a way to use topics like anti-colonialism/imperialism to be inclusive of other minority groups (with much needed representation in the MCU); although it was a solo hero movie he still found a way to handle the supporting cast very well; handles female characters very well; and although WF didnt turn out as great as I thought, man, the amount of stuff he had to deal during the movie... dear god, he deserves all praise for handling all that.

Queer people are still not allowed to exist and I'll always bring this up (somebody needs to care about this), but I guess he... tried?

He wouldn't be my first pick, but from the MCU directors he'd be the best one.

The X-Men represents many things, many different groups, and say what you want about DeMayo, but he brought some of that.

Ideally the MCU X-Men should have a multi diverse creative team, but that's not what looks like to be shaping up right now.

May 2028 seems like the fitting release date. We haven't had a X-Men film open in the first weekend of May since Origins: Wolverine.

Also, its just too much to release in the same year as Secret Wars when a lot of Fox actors are going to be there anyway!

Ryan Coogler has overall a better and vaster track record, but WITHIN MARVEL, Jake Schreier made the better movie.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if we want sequels as soon as possible. Get someone in the league of Ryan Coogler, you would wait 4 to 8 years for a sequel.

Are you posting this from a phone? Because I think autocorrect ****ed you over on that one.

You do understand the circumstances that lead to the 4 year gap between Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, right?

Also, the sequel issues seems to be more of a Marvel thing than a director thing.

All the jokes in Thunderbolts were not funny to me.
