Today in 1989...

i think i can sort something out.

I just remembered, the DVD being ripped as an iso and was available on a torrent site called MySpleen.

I don't know if MySpleen is still there, if they're open to the public or if the torrent is still seeded, but it's there. Maybe you can use that to our advantage?

but I just can't rate the movie as anything near definitive. I know that might upset alot of people but I'm a Batman fan . . . not a Nolan, Burton, Keaton, or Bale fan.

That's all well and fine. Of course it's not definitive... not everything pleases everybody, obviously.

Since I was only a few months old when the movie opened I didn't get to see it in theaters. I saw it on VHS, and it was quite a surprise, because I thought I had rented the 1960's Batman movie. This movie made me a big batfan.

Hey I did love the movie for the fact that it gave Batman the serious cinematic edge that he deserved, and again Elfman's score. Back then I was just happy to have a dark and serious Batman movie. But alot of things were just out of place to me just as there were things out of place in BB for some people. Begins just gave me more of a nostalgic rememberance of the comics that made me such a fan of the character.

Batman '89 is what made me a fan.

Happy Anniversary BATMAN!

The Best Batman movie ever made!!!

A Big Thank you to Tim Burton and Mr. Keaton, and Mr. Nicholson.

I went every weekend to the theater to see BATMAN when I was ten years old.

BATMAN merchandise was everywhere. I had all of the action figures and vehicles. Every time I'd go to Walgreen's, my Mom would buy me a BATMAN button, they had a bunch of them, they had small ones and, really big ones, I had one big one with the logo, they were of the comic art. I had one with Batman and Robin, and couldn't wait till Robin made it into a movie.

I loved those buttons.

I also had a large plastic Batman figure with a plastic cape, and a small Batman figure, it was hard rubber, and he hung froma Bat-rope that was
attached to a suction cup that had the Bat-Signal type logo on it, I got both of them from a local video store, and then froma local corner store I got my BATMAN baseball cap with the logo, I had a few shirts too.

I had tons of the trading cards too. I was heart broken the day I went to the theater and it was no longer playing, I didn't check first I just thought it would still be there, it ran so long. Then in September I went with my Dad to his local theater in the mall, ( he didn't live with us, I was visiting. ), and they still had it playing there, so I got to see it again, I was so happy. I was exstatic the day I bought it on VHS, now I have the special edition DVD.:woot: :joker: -"Wait'll they getta' load a' me." "Where does he get those Wonderful Toys?" :batman: -"I'm BATMAN."

That was a great time! I remember that Batman was everywhere. You couldn't go 5 minutes without hearing that Prince song "Batdance." lol

I know. I wasn't looknig for justification. I was only pointing out that it's great to have difference in opinion.

Maybe I just misrerad your above post, but it seems a little defensive. I don't have a problem with your feelings, man. If I'm wrong about your intentions, then I apologize.

Oh no I took no offense. I just don't want to misrepresent myself as a complete B'89 hater. I'm more than glad that we can come to a more civil understanding and acceptance of our difference of perspective and opinion. If anything we're still all Batman fans no matter what side of the spectrum we
chose to view.

Yeah, it took me a while to realize that my problems with Nolan's film/franchise didn't boil down to things I think he made in error.... it's the stuff he did as a result of outside factors. He goes from the modern Bat comics, which I don't enjoy anywhere near as much as the older material. In a nutshell, that's my problem with BB, I've finally realized.

"Nolanites" being overreactive is pretty rare. It usually only happens when "Burtonites" go on an anti-Nolan rampage.

And if I don't instigate a problem, then there isn't one. It's remarkable. :cwink:

Burton's movie really got me into it. I loved the character already from cartoons and the 60's show, but seeing the movie, seeing Batman on the big screen was like a religous experience, and changed my life. I was ten, and after seeing that I knew what my life would be, a life completely dedicated to Batman!

Begins doesn't even remind me of the comics, Nolan got it wrong.

This goes to when you got introduced to the character-

If your old enough to have read the Batman comics of the '70's or '80's then the movie likely means more to you.

If Adam West got you into Batman, no matter how old you are, then you'll have another vantage point altogether.

Truly though to have been introduced to Batman other than the film or comics is well....unholy sorry.

I came up on Superfriends too, but I knew that wasn't the real Dark Kinght...just Bruce in a suit.

Now see I can respect that. You're not out to 'bash' anyone's preference, only expressing your fondness of a certain take on the character. And I'll completely agree with something I've read of you that there is no one definitive take on the character. The comics are much more of an example of that than any of the movies, shows, or serials are. But there is a clear and precise essence to the character which both B'89 and BB give homage to in their own way.
Like alot of people on these threads, I was 'introduced' to Batman through the Adam West show, the Super Friends cartoons, and the New Adventures of Batman cartoon. That was very early in my life though. That was before shows like Transformers, Voltron (F**K YOU, POWER RANGERS!!) and Robotech, which I traded fanboyism for. The silliness of the early Batman shows no longer made sense to me. Then came the mid 80's with Miller's TDR and Batman Year One which completely reintroduced me to a character that I had never really known. Though they had shown me a more intriguing take on the character they didn't have quite the impact as 'Son of the Demon or the Alan Grant/Grant Morrison/Norm Breyfogle run on Detecive. <That's what got me hooked and that's the feel that BB has for me. Though the Timm/Dini animated Batman will always be superior to both B'89 and BB to me, for the same reasons.

I'll admit that I do still have a soft spot for that suit. But I still wish they would have just added the Returns cowl to the B'89 suit for Returns! Though I will always prefer the scalloped end cowl to Keaton's suit than Kilmer's.

Actually, that's false. Nolan's movies are actually a cross combination of the 70's material and of some of the late 80's and early 90's work. More inspiration comes from classic material with Nolan than anything. I really don't see where and why you'd think he is strictly making his movie from a modern Bat comics angle. To be brutally honest, Nolan's film is the best thus far in trying in same way shape or form give credit and homages to ALL eras of the Batman mythos. Even down to little scenes such as the "pow, zap, and wham" sound being made on the piano by Bruce for entrance to the cave. But in terms of tone ... Nolan's film is heavily based in that 70's era feel.

Nolan, Nolan, blah, blah, blah. This thread is about the original BATMAN film not NOLAN or Batman Begins! Gah! :cmad:

They will forever be compared and connected. Don't get mad, that's the way it will always be. Everyone is being civilized here, don't be a clown and add actual fuel to the fire. We're just discussing.

Burton got ALOT more wrong than Nolan did!!

Actually, I'd say their level of inconsistancies are about even. However, depending on how you feel about what got changed, it may or may not be more damaging/annoying.

Nolan's changes bugged me more than what Burton did, obviously.
