Tom Hardy and Ridley Scott team up for BBC historical thriller miniseries Taboo

You notice the horse manure all over the streets.

Stephen Graham's character Atticus is almost like a more shady version of his character Scrum from the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies

Episode 2 was better than episode 1.

I could maybe understand 20% of what Atticus said. He's writing a book about places he's never been and that's about it.

Prinny was incredible, even if his belly looked more like it had cloth stuffed in it than actual fat. I hope we see him again.

It's amazing how British hows all seem to use the same actors. I swear I've seen most of this cast, even the minor roles, in other things.

Took me a minute to recognize that the actor who played Atticus was Al Capone on Boardwalk Empire. :p

Good god. When James Delaney kills someone he makes sure they are really ****ing dead.

James: *stab stab stab slash stab slash flip stab slash stab stab*

Me: Ok, I think he's dead.

James: *bites through the carotid artery*

Me: :wow:

It was glorious. :p

I'm so used to him as that I forgot he was British.

I'm still not feeling this series. I'm trying to like it but it's just not great.

Graham is great, his arc in This Is England is one for the ages... I'm still crying.

Same here. It's rather Batman v Superman-like in that it's dark, dreary, and overstuffed with plot. If Hardy weren't starring in this I'd've probably stopped watching by now.

This series isn't "overstuffed with plot". James wants his fathers business and land, EIT wants it and is willing to kill him. And someone poisoned his father.

If thats what you consider overstuffed with plot Id suggest sticking to network procedurals or sitcoms.

:whatever: AAMOF I hardly watch network TV and love prestige television so you can drop the condescending tone.

And there's plenty more to the story than what you've mentioned: the Americans vs the English; James's relationship with his sister; his rivalry with his brother-in-law (who doesn't even know about his previous affair with Zilpha); the appearance of Lorna Bow Delaney; and, IIRC, Prinny dropped hints he wasn't too fond of the EIC so we may see some political maneuvering on that end.

Well, I'm still enjoying this. Love Brace's reactions to Delaney's NFG attitude and their banter.

Not keen on his step sister though. Her character's been dour faced throughout all three episodes.

She is deliberately repressed.

I'm just waiting for James to kill his brother in law. The guy has been baiting him since day one.

I too want the BIL to die a slow and painful death.

I'm enjoying this show a lot more now that I finally understand what's going on.

God, I'm in love with this show. Everything about it, even the little things like those awesome top hats, makes me want more. I don't think I've ever fallen for a show so hard so fast.

He could make it a little less obvious in public that he's slept with and still wants to jump his sister's bones. But whatever.

That kid from the first episode was obviously their bastard child. Unless I happen to be way off.

Other than, I think it's a very solid show. Good actors and performances all around. I enjoy Tom Hardy's intensity. I find the intrigue between East India and the King and his court interesting. It seems East India is also in a bit of a power struggle with the King as well.

His father's young wife, it seems like she's either acting on someone else's behest or she saw an opportunity to cash out and took it and she's faking this whole widow act.

Agreed about the widow. I like her, and I enjoy her's and James's interactions with each other, but I think she will be the wrench in his infernal machinations.

I just have to laugh at how James doesnt give a **** about people knowing he's helplessly desperately infatuated and lusting after his own sister. Honey badger dont give a ****! :funny:

Im really curious to see whether he accepts the challenge to duel his sister's husband.

If he does and he kills him then his sister despises him...for now. If he accepts and throws the duel his sister will stay locked in a god awful marriage for now. If he doesnt accept, publically he will look like a coward, but no one would dare call him a coward, and I dont think James gives a single **** about public opinion.

The honey badger analogy is pretty apt when it comes to the character.

So dueling was still technically legal in England at this point, right?

Yeah they were legal, but a certain decorum was required otherwise it wasnt considered legal dueling, and apparently dueling rarely resulted in death.

He goes all Jack the Ripper on the second guy in the 4th episode too. Poor bastard didn't know what he was getting himself into.

If any of you have read Hardy's comments about this show, he pretty much freely admits Delaney is an amalgamation of a bunch of characters he's always wanted to play, including Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes, and Hannibal Lecter. His voice gets slightly Lecter-ish at times.

That dude put cow poop in his mouth. :(

Cause they're edgy, squeekness!

lol, I am getting into the show, but it's a little like they go out of their way to be edgy and shocking sometimes.
