TOMB RAIDER being Re-booted!

Yep. Funny how that works out. :funny:

I am a fan of both Daisy and Alicia. I didn't want Daisy to get it, but I am happy that Alicia did.
I feel the same way!

I wanted to see Alicia play the lead in an action film and I wanted Daisy to play in a drama so things are working out perfectly.

Great to see Alicia as Lara Croft. I prefer her to Daisy Ridley. I prefer Alicia to Angelina Jolie. She looks a little more exotic than a typical Brit though. I wonder how is her British accent.

Of course she will put on muscle, that's not even a question. I hope that she is allowed to bring some humanity to the character, I was never fond of Jolie's performance nor the characterization of Croft in those awful early 2000's films.

Were people never fond of Jolie? Granted I was in my early teens when those films came out, but I loved her in the part. I mean I love her in general, but it’s not the type of role where I expect much gravitas or drama.

This is like one of the first times ever one of my casting wishes came true. Can't believe it. :)

I was under the impression that most liked Jolie in the film but hated the film itself.

Honestly this is one of the few high profile action films starring a lady so I'm not surprised Vikander jumped at the chance to play a lead in one of these films instead of a Superhero's girlfriend or partner.

I was never a fan of those flicks. I am also a much bigger fan of new Lara and the new game series.

I love when we agree on these things. :woot:

Ha, I feel the exact same way. I was bummed when Alicia dropped out of Assassin's Creed for Bourne just because I figured the former was more likely to be an action role for her, so this is even better.

Also, I didn't realize this was from the director of The Wave. That was a pretty standard disaster flick but a really well done one, imo, that had a lot more genuine humanity to it than those movies usually do. Hope he carries that quality over here.

I had a funny feeling ever since the Oscars it was going to come down to either Daisy or Alicia.

I thought it was The 5th Wave he directed, good to know I was wrong.

Congrats! That's a good feeling. The only time I remember that happening for me was with Henry Cavill as Superman. Hope this film does justice to your casting dreams better than those films did for me. :)

Jolie worked because she literally looked like the character model of Lara Croft back then, before the reboot.

So did I! :funny:

I was just about to write off this film, from that alone. One of the worst marketing campaigns I've ever seen in recent time.

Well clearly not, since you've quoted two people.

I'm not saying everyone was not fond of her. I said I wasn't. And I SEE SPIDEY said she wasn't either.

Jolie's Lara Craft seemed a little too cool and emotionless. She never seemed in any danger and there was never any real suspense or tension. Now you can argue that it's based on a video game, so how much can there actually be, but that shouldn't matter. This is a film and we want to see them in actual danger but triumphing over the odds.

In the Indiana Jones films, Indy was often in very real danger, and he even showed it. Either he was in pain or showed fear and he often only escaped by the skin of his teeth. He certainly wasn't emotionless in all these action scenes. Jolie just seemed to be going through the motions all the time but didn't seem engaged at all.

You and I have the kind of luck where we don't even get #10 on the list. When it is down to two people, we end up getting the one we don't want. :funny:

My only success was Emma as Belle, and that wasn't even something I knew was possible. She literally had to switch BatB flicks.

Nailed it.

In all honesty I probably would be content with anyone who half decent, but it is nice to have a casting wish come true for once, lol. I'm wondering how closely they are going to adhere to the rebooted game as a reference point.

Haha, I know. It's almost gotten to the point where I'm afraid to say who I want for the roles because I don't want to jinx them, lol.

That said, I did just remember that I was lamenting with another poster how I wished Chris Evans would be an option for Captain America (thinking he wasn't at the time due to F4), a few weeks before he actually became in contention for the role. He wasn't my top choice or anything, but dammit, I'm counting it. :oldrazz:

Considering how Evans has worked out, I'd count it as well. :woot:

And yeah, we are pretty much jinxes at this point. :funny:

Jolie's Croft was too perfect a character, which is probably why she's remembered more for how she looked rather than her character.

My memory’s foggy since it was so long ago, but that seems par the course of the original Playstation series.

Which will serve Alicia here, since it’s practically a whole other character at this point. All comparisons would be fairly shallow.
