TOMB RAIDER being Re-booted!

It sounds like a really early might not happen situation. Daisy would kinda be perfect for the role but I'm not taking this report to heart. Vikander should be on the list as well. I know they are probably going for a slightly younger Lara but Vikander is too talented to not look it.

Vikander should definitely be a contender to.

Color me surprised. There's plenty of time for this to fall through or disney to interfere so Im not getting my hopes up. And if Im being frank Id rather it fall through. I dont want something interfering with or causing problems with her commitment to star wars.

It wouldn't, she's filming episode 8 now, that will be done in a few months time. She's not beholden to Star Wars or Disney.

I think Ridley should avoid doing something like this right after Star Wars. Lara Croft is beneath her IMHO.

How is Lara Croft beneath her?

I don't know if anything is beneath her because she has only played in one thing and the only person who Star Wars has made a star is Harrison Ford. Ask everyone not named Harrison Ford how A-list they are?

I do understand being leery because videogame movies still suck...a lot. So that would be a good reason to turn down the role. Hollywood aren't exactly making a ton of big budget female led action films though so if a lady wants to lead a potential franchise, as opposed to playing the girlfriend, she might have to take the risk.

I want Vikander. She was amazing in Danish Girl. I didnt see Ex machina yet, but I will. I am not sold on Ridley. If she gets a role, I know it she got it for hype called Star Wars.

Vikander would be great as well.

But I mean...she's an Oscar winner now, so I don't see how this could be "beneath" Ridley and not her, lol. I personally don't think this role is inherently beneath anyone - just depends on the quality of the script. It COULD be great. The chances of it actually realizing that potential are iffy.

Lol Yeah I'd think it would be more beneath Vikander than Ridley and it isn't beneath Vikander!

I agree flickchick that if the script is good and the director has good ideas and is decent, who knows?

If I were her and I couldn't see a script beforehand, I would want as much information about the project that I can get, story, tone, etc. before I signed on.
But, it is not because it would be beneath her, it is because most videogame movies suck.

the project has alot of potential. I'd be ten times as interested with Daisy on-board though.

If they go with the rebooted Tomb Raider game as inspiration it could be good. Lara has a lot more depth to her in the rebooted games. I think either Alicia or Daisy would be a good choice, Daisy probably physically matches the character a bit more than Alicia, but other than that you wouldn't complain with one or the other.

That's exactly what they're going with

They're going with rebooted Lara. One who's a lot more new to the game so to speak.

I still haven't played the new games yet but I was happy to see them moving away from hyper sexualized Lara Croft. Croft is still a total babe in the new games but that doesn't overwhelm the character like it started doing.

The reboot game is one of the 1st games I got for my PS4 and still one of my favorite games I've ever played. It will make a great foundation for a movie reboot, imo. It's also relatively intimate and small in scale (it's a survival tale contained to one island with only hints of the supernatural elements 'til the end), so there's plenty of potential for a mid-budget (say $70-90mil) blockbuster breakout if they do it well.

I just bought a PS3 because I'm always a generation behind. I'm going to get the reboot soon enough.

I think a survival film sounds interesting.

Shes' been in one movie, nothing is beneath her fool. :funny:

She doesn't have to be in every script her manager or agent puts in front of her. Doesn't seem like she's a sure thing for this either.

Also it's a video game based movie. These don't exactly have the best track record. It's a reboot of a movie franchise that already basically failed. The last Tomb Raider movie bombed. Now they've been trying to get this off the ground for years with little success.

For years, the producers were trying to get Megan Fox to start in this reboot.

Too much survival mode and not enough raiding of tombs in that first rebooted game. That's something the movie reboot would have to make sure doesn't happen. The movie just can't be a survivor story, there's got to be a nice balance between that and problem solving. One example I'd look at is The Martian, that film is full problem solving whilst being a survivor movie. I could easily see Tomb Raider being along the lines of The Martian where Lara is stranded on some ancient island and having to use her wits to figure out tomb puzzles to survive.

Vikander is in the similar spot JLaw was. I'm sure a franchise would be a nice feather in her cap but I'm sure she wants to make sure it's a quality one even if she's not the lead.

I'd prefer that she get to do other things besides just SW (although I certainly want to see more of Rey). Harrison Ford got to do Raiders of the Lost Ark in-between ESB and ROTJ after all.

This. Indy and SW are two huge franchise that Ford made work; granted they were both properties of LucasFilm.

I'm glad that others are making the "younger Harrison Ford" comparisons, it saves me the trouble. ;)

But yeah, they would be rather obvious if this ends up happening. Also, by her own admission she's already rejected several scripts anyway (for reasons that make me like her even more, if the report that I read is correct).

And if actors like Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are willing to do a video game adaptation, then I don't see how it's "beneath" Daisy?

A picture came to mind:
Petitions will be made to make this a gritty grounded R rated movie, with a good story, good physical feats, and good acting.

I've watched footage of the new game. It's M rated, gritty and realistic.

I don't think r rated is as cool as people think it is. Movies can be gritty and rough without being r
