The Winter Soldier Top Three Directors In The Running To Direct Sequel

Anyone think that Whedon would make a really good Cap Movie i mean in his interviews he has really been passionate about portraying the who "man out of time" thing and i really think he would make a great director for Cap 2

He probably would, but I don't think Marvel would ever seriously consider him due to how big the Avengers is. And, even if he isn't directing, he'll be a presence I'm sure on sets of all the movies because he has to know inside-and-out what happens in the solo-movies and how that will affect them going into the next Avengers.

Marvel films will most likely be a hot ticket with Phase II (following the success of Avengers), so I don't see it as completely out of the realm of possibility getting Brad Bird for CA2.

I'd honestly take him for anything. He's knows superheroes and big action as it is already and his films also balance comedy and action perfectly

I'm pretty sure if Brad Bird had anything else he wanted to say about superheroes he'd make Incredibles 2.

I doubt Bird directs CA2. I think he'd rather do his movie about the great San Francisco earthquake next.

Getting Brad Bird is amazing for Cap.

Maybe that would convince Hugo Weaving to rejoin as the Red Skull. Forget about Zemo or the Leaper, I want a good showing of Red Skull.

If Hugo Weaving has a contract for more than one movie, he'd have to come back regardless of who directs. And since the Red Skull is Cap's most important nemesis, I'm sure Marvel did sign him to a multi-picture deal.

Of course, now that I've said that, someone who knows more about the topic than I do will probably be along to prove me wrong. :funny:

I agree that Captain America should be played by an American but directed by an American is not exactly a prerequisite. You might be able to get a different perspective from an outsiders point of view than from someone closer to home, maybe.
And so far, no Asgardian has directed a Thor movie :cmad:

I might be in the minority here but I think that Drew Goodard (Cloverfield, Cabin In The Woods) should be given a shot to direct. Cabin In The Woods was one of the better horror/comedies I've seen in a very long time. I think with some impressive production artists he could give us an awesome Cap sequel. The last act of Cabin has some really exciting action sequences. Plus, if Cap 2 is going to be a continuation of Avengers it wouldn't hurt to hire someone from the Joss Whedon camp. He's also a writer which could help if they need to add rewrites.

I'd go Nolfi, purely because I found Adjustment Bureau to be a great little movie... It'll probably be the Community guys though.

I'll allow myself some self-gratification with this :woot:

We'll see how this works out due to their limited directorial work and experience with big-time movies.

It's... The Community guys. Who also did several episodes of my beloved Arrested Development:

I honestly don't know what to think. I'm disappointed, but also very intrigued, to see what the Russos will bring to Cap 2 and why Feige felt they were his choice. They've done some whackadoodle things on Community, a show which I adore beyond all reason, and they've easily done my favorite eps, but... for Captain America 2???

It's leaving me wondering what the hell Marvel Studios is thinking.

Joe and Anthony Russo are on final negotiations for directing Cap 2. I'm disappointed and pissed right now :argh:

So far Marvel has done a great job hiring great directors and I know it's too early to react to this news but right now I don't know what to think about these guys.

Im having a terrible nightmare.Im dreaming that the Russo brothers are going to direct CA 2.It has to be a nightmare, right?.Please, could someone wake me up?.:cmad::cmad:

The choice for the Russo brothers seems to be not very popular. They did a few comedies so far? How will it match to a Cap movie in continuation to Joe Johnstons CA:TFA which was quite serious? I really don't know.

I stated before in the director thread that the Russos work on Community and Arrested Development is very unusual for a sitcom, in that the shows aren't very sitcomy at all. They toy a lot with different storytelling techniques, quirky characters, timelines, etc. That might work for a flashback heavy movie, and they can mine comedy (hopefully well placed comedy) out of Cap's man out of time situation. But still, only being known for two comedy shows, regardless of how brilliant they are, does not instill a lot of confidence in the decision.

Reserving my hype until I see or hear more about it.

I don't like, love, or hate it yet but initial reaction, for me is it is just strange. I hope this isn't Marvel's idea of 'being ambitious' in the wake of the Avengers as I'd rather them take that route with their storytelling rather than who will be in the Director's Chair.

Marvel's director choices are often left-field but they usually make sense. This is... interesting to say the least. Once again I'll trust Feige but this is kind of a head-scratcher.
