Toy Story 4

Loved the film when I saw it yesterday! Not the best one, but it still had a great balance of emotion and humour! Loved the new characters, especially Bunny, Ducky, Gabby Gabby and Duke Kaboom!

That gag with Bunny and Ducky coming up with plans to get the keys from the old lady were hilarious! The Plush Rush! :lmao:

I thought Reeves as Duke was easily one of my fave parts of the new film and I thought Hendricks was great as Gabby.

oh and Giggles McDimples cracked me up too ditto Ducky and Bunny LOL

Loved it. I honestly don't know how I'd rank the films now, but its looking like:

Toy Story 3
Toy Story
Toy Story 4
Toy Story 2

That said all of these films are absolutely amazing and I really was hesitant about another Toy Story film, but it really delivered for me. A little bit emotional too!

Woody almost leaving at the beginning of the film felt more out-of-character than ever.
Woody's never been presented as perfect. He tried to trap Buzz so Andy would play with him in TS1 and he almost left Andy to be put in a museum in Japan in TS2.

His conflicted feelings have come up before, in TS3, where he took the decision out of Andy's hands and gave himself to Bonnie to stay with his friends even though Andy didn't want to let him go. So I felt Woody thinking of leaving in the beginning of 4 was totally in character with him especially since Andy looking for him, made him make up his mind.

I saw it yesterday as well yeah that story was hilarious "we just gave you 3 great ideas" lolol
and when they actually showed how they got the key and then said they went through hell to get lol
also Keanu was fantastic and Combat Carl was awesome as well "combat carl is getting played with today"

that woody ending YEAH MAN TEARS were flowing

I don't know. I still think TS3 was the perfect ending for the franchise. The ending in this feels kinda meh for me. It's sad, but at the same time not emotional enough for me to tear up like TS3.

I think TS3 was a good ending for Woody and Andy's relationship since Andy does have to grow up at some point. TS4 is a nice bookend to the first one as far as Woody and Buzz's relationship.

Expected, but funny enough I haven’t heard anyone complain about that blooper. Stinky Pete is a villain after all.

Regardless, happy to have my unaltered Blu-Ray.

Well, looks like I better snatch up a copy of Toy Story 2 while I've got the chance.

Watched this today and I guess this movie is to me what Toy Story 3 was to... well, everyone else. Toy Story 1 & 2 were a big part of my childhood but for some reason the third movie didn't really reasonate with me. This one did. It was the conclusion I wanted TS3 to be.

I'm completely okay with Woody leaving Bonnie. She didn't even care for him, and deep down he never stopped being Andy's toy. I couldn't have asked for more fitting conclusion to his story.

Also I may or may not have teared up a bit at Gabby Gabby's ending. :o

Nice job, Pixar.

Saw it, enjoyed it a lot but I’m in a weird place where I don’t know what to make of it… It’s by no means a bad film. It looks great, the humour is on point and generally, it’s the same enjoyable Pixar romp you would expect but some things felt a bit odd to me

Loved the opening with saving RC, it served as a nice reminder/set up of Bo Peep. Liked Gabby Gabby and her Ventriloquist dolls as the “villain” and enjoyed her ending too, Bunny and Ducky were great additions, I really enjoyed Reeves as Duke Kaboom (it really felt like he was enjoying voicing it) and I enjoyed some of the running gags such as the Plush Rush and the Combat Carl high give (wish it had gone on for longer)…

Minor quibble but bringing Bo Peep back felt a little odd considering Woody hasn’t given one thought to her since TS1 but they make it work. Making her a kick ass heroine smacks of “ok guys, its 2019 we can’t upset anyone here” but there is a good reason why she is like this in the story and again, they make it work.

Forky… I enjoyed Forky as character more than I thought I would and I get what he means to the plot and to Woodys story but I think it leaves a lot of unanswered questions. What makes it come to life? Is it when a child believes in something so much it becomes real? Or is it purely because she stuck eyes and a mouth on it? Why aren’t toy balls sentient? What if a kids favourite thing to play with is his dads slipper or a twig or a paper airplane or tin cans on a string… do they become sentient? Ok, this isn’t a valid criticism/point because I am definitely thinking too much in to that lol.

The other toys have always been “B plot players” and fair enough, you can argue that this is Woodys story but Buzz should not be put on the side-line like he was here. It felt like he was hardly in it. And I’m not keen on what they did do with him.. having some sort of identity crisis? Not knowing what to do in a situation? That’s not Buzz. Buzz is fearless and he always knows what to do. In TS2 and TS3, when he was split off from Woody, he stepped in to that “leader” role and now he’s second guessing himself with no real reason to do so… in their own words he is a “cool toy” so I don’t get why they portrayed him this way..

I enjoyed the story on the whole and I think having it a bit more “contained” was a good call but I don’t think the B plot was the best.. IMO it would have worked better if they had done something where the others all got stuck inside a toy shop and had to escape or something (giving Buzz something better to do in the process) rather than having them standing around doing nothing besides driving a caravan (they definitely should have being discovered by the humans doing that)..

Not keen on the ending either.. It felt a bit like this was the original ending of TS3 but then they came up with the Andy giving them to Bonnie thing so they put it to one side and came up with a whole new plot to justify doing this ending here. Don’t get me wrong, I think on some level it works, I understand what people are saying in that Woody's story is done, he has moved on from Andy etc… maybe I’m just not keen on them actually splitting up the gang.

I don’t want to see the story continue without Woody so I think the ending works if this is definitely the last one. If they continue without Woody or they find a convoluted reasons to bring them back together again then the ending is pointless. This has to be the last one based on that ending.

Again, on the whole, I enjoyed it a lot but I don’t think it’s anywhere near the best one..

TS1
TS3
TS4/TS2 (can’t decide which is last at the moment)

7.5/10

Yeah, the Buzz subplot was weird and I can't say I liked it. It's as if Pixar stopped knowing what to do with him after TS2. To be fair though, there's only so much you can do with a character like him.

I also wasn't a huge fan of how much the original gang was sidelined, but I understand why they did it.

Everything about Woody works. But they didn't know what to do with Buzz and the original gang. They even said in one of the interviews that they came up with the "inner voice" thing so Buzz had something to do. That alone was enough for me to consider TS4 a bit worse than the other ones.

Buzz's arc was pretty much done in the first. All he does now is be the Spock to Woody's Kirk. And now it looks like Jessie outranks him.

Will be seeing this later. :yay:

Hope you enjoy it. It's good

I agree that Buzz's "subplot" in this movie was dumb but it's not like Spanish Buzz in TS3 was that much better.

I feel like Buzz had more to do in this one than in 3.

Finally caught this, I was one of those skeptics who didnt want this movie at all and refused to watch any trailers on principle (petty, I know). Toy Story 3 is perfect to me and I felt the series shouldve ended there. However I will say Part 4 is good, quite good. Not as good as 3 but it does a good job of justifying its existence. I consider it an epilogue of sorts to the trilogy — an extended coda if you will. Even though Toy Story 3 closed everything out perfectly, the writers found one little strand left to tie up and I think this did a good job of it. I wasnt an emotional, teary mess at the end of this like in 3 but it was still an effective finale.

This needs to be THE end though. Theres nothing more they can possibly do now...unless they decide to just do a brand new story with a brand new cast of toys and new arcs but I dont think people want to see that.

The only story they could tell now is how Woody comes back to Bonnie's house. This movie has effectively killed the franchise, which means no more shorts either unless they deal with Woody and I'm not sure there's a market for Toy Story movies that don't have Buzz, Jessie and the other toys in them.

Just got done watching this in the cinema. Will write down my thoughts later, but while I can say that it is great the execution of the script is sloppy and leaves much to be desired. I can't pin an accurate rating for it now. My rankings for the quadrilogy is this:

1. Toy Story 2 - 10/10
2. Toy Story - 10/10
3. Toy Story 4 - 8-9/10
4. Toy Story 3 - 8/10
