Toy Story 4

Eh, I wouldn’t be that harsh. The animation still holds up, and most importantly, the story works which is what makes it timeless.

Got around to seeing this tonight. Personally, I didn't think it was as good as the first or third films, but it's still pretty damn good and one of Pixar's best regardless. I'd say it's on par with Toy Story 2. I wasn't the sobbing wreck I was in Toy Story 3, but I did tear up a bit at both the beginning and the end. My only complaint is that I wish there was more screentime for the classic supporting characters like Jessie, Hamm, Rex, etc. But Duke Kaboom stole the show for me. Keanu Reeves is a national treasure.

I'm glad they managed to deliver another great sequel.

I wouldn't exactly call Lotso "purely evil", but okay.
He left the toys to die in an incinerator. If that isn't pure evil, then what is? He deserved worse than what he got.

Interested to see who you think stands out as the best villain?

I liked Gabby because she didn’t turn out the way you thought.

Zurg was barely a villain. Probably Al was the second best.

Lotso, then Sid, then Prospector. Al was a slimeball, Gabby wasn’t much of a villain and Zurg was more of a cameo that turned into a punchline.

Probably Lotso. Both he and Sid tried to actively destroy the toys but Sid learned his lesson in the end.

Gabby
wasn't really a villain, although the scene where she has her henchmen take out Woody's voice box was pretty chilling.

Sid was a potential villain, but for humanity.

Well, he seemed to be doing well for himself in Toy Story 3. Could've been worse.

Woody stopped his homicidal tendencies.

Insane the difference in animation.

While the cat in Toy Story 4 looks damn near photorealistic, they had already greatly improved upon dogs by the time Toy Story 2 rolled around.

I rewatched the first three since watching 4. It's amazing how much their animation has improved over the years but even though the first Toy Story looks so dated 24 years later, the story and characters make it endure.

Insane the difference in animation.

I'd say the original maintains that mid 90's Computer animation style.

The later movies look less and less like it was done on a computer and more lifelike

What a shame really. I watched TS 3 this morning and it still made me tear up.

T4, for me, was quite disappointing. It’s not as good as the first 3. The ending did nothing for me. Woody’s motivation is not clear, hence his decision at the end didn’t give me an emotional wreck that I hope I would get.

To sum up, I expect so much that I end up get angry with myself because I didn’t like it as I want to. Dang it.

Basically that Bonnie had kinda moved on and he hadn't.

Woody almost leaving at the beginning of the film felt more out-of-character than ever.
