I think they would have been more stunned than anything if Trump had died. What I've often wondered since January is; would history have remembered Trump more fondly, if only just a little, had he died from COVID-19? There wouldn't have been election lies and misinformation, no Capitol riots, etc.

I doubt it would have made much difference pre-January. He was already stoking all kinds of lies, denying the election was fair, playing down the COVID pandemic and that was just December let alone the previous 4 years of his attacks on democracy.

LOL. "More fondly" is relative. I think he lost quite a few people after the election; although people are funny. They tend to forget. I would wager that Trump's approval tanked somewhat around 1/6 and has risen somewhat since then.
