Doubtful.

Given the budget and how well it performed during the summer, it HAS to hit during the summer. Deals are made with partners (tie-ins, etc) that necessitate a firm date as well. So, yeah, I don't see it moving really, unless it's to the following weekend. I'd imagine it wouldn't though, so buzz would be really high going into the holiday weekend to give it a huge boost in sales.

i wonder if the writer's strike affected the script in anyway. I felt like Quantum of Solace lacked the punch it needed due to the strike.

I doubt it, they're using a lot of stuff they couldn't do the first time with this one, which would require little rewrites. The early treatment (in theory) shows that they really had an idea of where they wanted to go with things. With the higher budget, they could do more, rather than have to rewrite to remove references and cut down on CGI effects to come under budget. Car deals would have been made well in advance as well, so nothing could be delayed there either. The only thing that could be problematic, IMO, is the CGI given the sheer number of things, but based on what they did last time, I'm confident (I don't have the stats offhand, but they were doing some insanely fast work during the first one)

The only comparison I would make right now is The Incredible Hulk from last year. Because they were also CGI intensive, they had to wait for CGI to be completed before they could release a lot of teasers, etc. The difference is, they had to contend with negativity from the 2003 release which put forth CGI way too early that sabotaged things.

Bay has to balance things this time -- one of the main complaints was all the human stuff, so he needs to show some impressive CGI to win that crowd over. It just takes time and I'm confident marketing won't drop the ball here like they did with Hulk's 2 week non-stop blitz.

Great post.

What is the budget for this movie? I'm not finding a definitive answer anywhere.

I have a feeling this movie will be delayed. Anyone else with me?
Would serve the fools right for wanting to render all the robots on IMAX-resolution. :oldrazz: I still think they're nuts, or cheating.

Summers are also usually very crowded. TF2 opens in June so there's "technically" room to be delayed another 2 months and still be considered a summer release. But there's HP6 and 2012 in July, and August is probably too late. Right now TF2 has late June basically all to itself.

Lol for some dumb reason I was thinking the first movie budget.

Lol, that's cool. It's been all over the place. Didn't a cast member say like 300 mil once? That can't be right.

Well as i understand it movies can't just move and change their release dates at will. There's money involved, alot of it. It's like changing a hotel or plane ticket reservation; you may have trouble finding another spot if you try to re-schedule.

Depends.. a lot of the CGI models have already been made, presumably the licenses for Optimus/etc carried over, so any expenditures would go to licensing new cars and new CGI models. Main cast would have been signed (in theory) for multiple movies, so no budget concerns there.

They're shooting on aircraft carriers (due to Bay's connections in the military, it may not cost as much as it would for someone else), and flying to Egypt to film stuff.

So, the budget shouldn't be TOO much more in theory, but it would be nice to see some of that extra cash on screen. Presumably this is why we have a lot more robots this time around.

And the first one practically made back the budget in its opening week, so it's at least 150 million. The highest budget for a film (in theory again) is 300 million (Pirates of Carribean 3).

For comparison purposes:
Spider-Man 2

* Story rights: $20 million
* Screenplay: $10 million
* Producers: $15 million
* Director (Sam Raimi): $10 million
* Cast: $30 million
o Tobey Maguire: $18 million
o Kirsten Dunst: $7 million
o Alfred Molina: $3 million
o Rest of cast: $3 million
* Production costs: $45 million
* Visual effects: $65 million
* Music: $5 million
o Composer (Danny Elfman): $2 million.
* Total: $200 million

(Using Spidey 2 since Raimi and Bay seem to have similar sensibilities when it comes to cutting budgets for filming with practical stuff versus CGI)

Shia got $500,000 for Transformers. So you can see where they got by nicely budget wise and are positioned pretty well considering all the forward planning. I dunno what kind of perks Bay would take (percentage points from the film, dvd backend sales, as many GM cars as he wants, etc) but that'd likely have changed between films.

I dunno.. there's too much stuff we don't know about, but in my uninformed opinion they're doing great.

HK-TF.com has posted some new images of the alleged Movie Soundwave figure from the Revenge of the Fallen toy line. The pictures looked to be darkened out, not showing all the details of the figure, so I've taken the liberty of lightening them up a little bit without trying to compromise the integrity of the original pictures.

From the looks of the images, this appears to be his Cybertronian mode, reminiscent of Transformers Cybertron Vector Prime:

Could this mean we will see three Movie Soundwave figures? Cybertron mode, Satellite mode and an Earth mode? Stay tuned to Seibertron.com to find out.

josh nizzi has mentioned on TFW2005 that the IDW crew have seen a trailer.....

BTW I saw a trailer for the crew at the wrap party last weekend. It was really awesome. I can't talk about it of course but I'll let you in on one thing: there were explosions.

How long til this is out for us fans?

raah! Just show us the trailer! Are there any major movies coming out that this could be attached to?

That same trailer may not be intended for the general public, don't forget that some previews are designed for related production company's etc. Take that Dragon Ball trailer that was leaked, it was only meant for Fox exec's and other related parties. We may be getting something completely different.

At least this gives some indication that they are working on trailers, be it for crew or wide release. Hopefully before Christmas!

I was kinda hoping they'd show it with Madagascar 2....Dreamworks and all......Maybe they didn't finish the Trailer in time? :desperateface::csad:

The IDW guys got to see the trailer early, so I don't think it's an issue of the trailer being incomplete.

Dang it... just got a reply on the tfw205 'ask Orci' thread if the reports of a trailer at the wrap party was true. Orci replyed...

It wasn't a trailer. Just select footage.

The esteemed TFW2005 T2Insider has crawled out of thier hole again and opened they're gob once more.

Apparently the image in the link below, taken from a ROTF toy box (First i've heard of that little snippet) is not just a load of swiggles... but the face of TEH FALLEN himself!:shock

For Serios? I'm, really getting sick and tired of them showing that figure. Ugh

Bit more news from the 'Ask Orci' thread on TFW2005.....

ROTF might be longer than the first movie.... and while Orci doesn't know when the trailers coming out he's said he's gonna do some digging and tell us when he finds out.
