Interestingly enough it turned out that the 4th of July weekend was actually detrimental to the Box-Office for movies this weekend. Where Saturday is usually the bigger grossing day of the weekend this time it was the smallest. So the 61% is not as bad as it looks.

So anyways after 12 days "Revenge Of The Fallen" is already $40 million behind "The Dark Knight's" pace. Honestly at this point with large second weekend drop (and yes whatever the case was, 61% is large) and with Harry Potter opening soon I don't even think $400 million is guaranteed anymore. Most likely it will make it to $400 million but now I think it's gonna be just barely pass it and it will probably land at $410 million or less, as opposed to last week when I thought it would sprint past $400 million on way to $450 million or more.

WOW, the #s for this thing are freaking insane, I'm glad, I'm very happy for them, It's awesome!!!:D:up:

Me thinks Ice Age 3 did pretty good concidering it was released a week after Transformers 2.
Had it been given a better release date it would have had an even bigger opening weekend...oh well.

I've only seen clapping for 3 movies and those were the Star Wars prequels on their advanced opening nights.

I don't clap after movies but I see no reason why someone cannot applaud a work of art/cinema if they liked it.

I do boo at stupid trailers like Aliens in the Attic and that dumb gerbil secret agent movie.

How is booing at a projection screen any different than applauding it? They're essentially the same thing.

Is is true that Ice Age 3 will end up winning the weekend when the final official totals are tallied soon?

estimates have it at $150,407 behind ice age

TF just keeps on falling just short

I never said applauding was dumb. I just don't clap because I am either darting out of the theatre or sitting there talking about what I just saw. I boo because I am expressing my distaste for something and people clap because they are expressing their reverence for something.

Um.....the actuals:

1. Transformers 2 $42,320,877
2. Ice Age 3 $41,690,382
3. Public Enemies $25,271,675

As soon as I saw Revenge of the Fallen I knew it was destined for explosive entry and fast drop.

I was wrong.

The decline I'm seeing at my cinema isn't a fast drop. It's more like a hit-the-wall-and-stop kind of thing. I've been interlocking Transformers on two projection systems for two weeks now and while the opening weekend was packed, week two has seen the double shows hold about half a dozen people in one auditorium and nobody in the other.

Terminator Salvation, kicking off some 10 minutes later, is actually busier.

Some people talk about movies having legs. At this rate I'll be talking about Revenge of the Fallen as "That bilateral amputee we ran in '09". :wow:

i dont think any movie that makes close to 600m world wide in a few days can be considered "That bilateral amputee"

Honestly, look. I was one of those people who saw the opening numbers and thought, "This could make a run at TDK."

But that was just unrealistic of me. The fact is, the film is on pace to net at least $400 million. No matter how you spin that, it's incredible. On one hand, because it's $400 million. On the other, because it represents a sizable increase from the first film. And in this business, that's what matters most.

Silly boy, you know TDK has become the standard by which every other film in existence is measured.

I agree. I dont think anyone at Paramount is second guessing this film

I think most people thought TF2 would come close to $400 million after seeing the opening numbers, but no way would it approach $500 million.

Actually TDK wasn't a notably leggy film, but it was certainly leggy for a film that opened as big as it did. SM3 (and now TF2) are more typical of how movies behave when they explode opening weekend. Doesn't mean that they're necessarily terrible films - obviously many people went out to see it. Just means they've burned off demand and there isn't a huge following out to see it repeatedly or telling their friends to see it, etc. A movie doesn't have to be "bad" for that to happen. Many people are a little more stingy with their time and money nowadays. :funny:

One wonders what "a few days" has to do with 'legs' or "world wide" with a reference to one site. Bizarre. Really bizarre.

you made it seem like this movie is failing at the box office
