Sci-Fi Tron: Ares with Jared Leto

I've seen the Ares trailer attached to a good amount of films I've seen in theaters since April. Leto isn't a box office draw even if he wasn't a piece of ****. He never was.

At least Legacy used Olivia Wilde when she was in demand. I don't know why they didn't go for someone like Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, or Timothee Chalamet.

Yeah, at first I'd have thought Chalamet might have been too expensive but Leto can't come cheap either since an Oscar win equates a bigger salary.

Leto's win was back in 2012 (I think), so I don't think he would be getting that big of a salary bump.

I just figured since he's still active in Hollywood (somehow), it still has an affect on his salary compared to someone whose career went really down the tubes after an Oscar win, like Cuba Gooding Jr.

Snow Dogs was peak Cuba. :o

just saw a clip of this on face book and they had Ares in a version of the grid that looked RIGHT out of the 80s film and even had the same sound fx and him materializing a 80s era light cycle I was like oh hell yeah

Yeah Tron has always struggled financially and it struck me as such a boneheaded idea to think that you could finally make this series into a huge blockbuster with JARED LETO of all people as your lead, even if he wasn’t currently embroiled in a sex scandal.

Can you post the link please.

Well hyped for this, very much looking forward to it. Massive fan of the other two films, dating back to seeing the original in the cinema with my Pops. Can't wait.

I am curious how the Dillingers are still in charge of Encom? What happened to Allen and Sam taking back the company after Tron Legacy.

Tron Legacy was just the imagination of a young autistic Sam as his way of coping with his father's disappearance. :o

hope this works:

Wow, love the callback to the 80s lightcycles.
The rest is cringe painful to get through, just to get to the one reference scene at the end.

Watched Tron and Tron Legacy this week. Been a while since I have seen Tron and Tron Legacy I hadn't seen since release.

My thoughts on both movies have changed.

Tron is an ugly film to watch, and I appreciate the ambition and the concept and aspects of it, but the film itself is ugly once they're in the Grid. Not cause the Grid itself looks bad. I am okay with the Atari like look to it. That's all fine and era appropriate. It's the actors. They look like they were chroma keyed into the environment, and it's just ugly. Flynn is a fun hero, and the MCP a good villain. But everyone else and so many scenes....boring as hell. I LIKE this movie more for what it wanted to be than what it is.

Tron Legacy when I saw it, I didn't love it. I think Sam is a boring character. That hasn't changed. He is. Bland as toast. But....I think I focused too much on the elements I didn't like too much when I first saw it. Outside the awful CG deaging, this movie is gorgeous and has wonderful music and atmosphere. I do think the action sequences could have been more exciting, but they are not bad. Far better than anything Tron was able to achieve in terms of excitement. Still not a 5 star movie due to Sam being boring, Rinzler's reveal and redemption feeling so tacked on, and Michael Sheen stands out for me in a bad way like he is in a different movie. Outside that....I actually really liked this movie.

So before, I think I preferred Tron to Legacy, but I have completely flipped. I would watch Legacy again. Not sure if I will ever really want to revisit the OG again.

Curious to see how they handle the continuity in Ares.

Yeah, Ares here is in a bind for me. On one hand, watching Tron Legacy again made me want more Tron, and this flopping will freeze this franchise again for another decade or more. On the other hand, it succeeding means more Jared Leto, who is not someone I want to root for, and I still don't love the Tron in our world concept. I want more of the Grid. For me, that's the appeal. The Wizard of Oz aspect of it. So, I am still not entirely sold here

He's not an ass. He's a predator and if this is successful, it's his franchise. So as a fan of Tron, the last thing I want is for this to be a success.

The thing is though if this movie is a success, and Leto gets outed as a predator, he won't be in the next movie anyway as Disney will drop him.

He's already outed as a predator. It's been common knowledge for years. Telling Hollywood it doesn't matter only reenforces that.
