Tron Legacy Sequels

When Tron got it's sequel greenlight, Disney was desperate for franchises that appealed to boys. Since then it's purchased Marvel and Star Wars so I feel it isn't much of a priority anymore.I think It'll still get made, but they are in no rush.

Disney got their hands full right now. Honestly they have so many franchises they literally don't know what to do with them.

Hence why we won't see a Tron 3 despite what Horowitz and Kitsis say.

It might be a situation where they already have a big sci-fi franchise (Star Wars) in their big pockets so Tron is not a priority.

If Disney didn't buy out Lucasfilm, then this would've been a different situation. I just remember how the trades reported all these sci-fi/high concept projects, all in the works at Disney. And when Star Wars was announced, all those projects vanished.

i have feeling that Tron3 wouldnt happen for over 5 years even if they didnt have SW and Marvel. Disney would rather find a new franchise than to invest again in Tron.

its not so much the money. its the reaction the movie got .they liked but didnt care.

I just don't think Disney will do it, especially after the failure of Tron Destiny.

Also, let's be honest, we don't know how Joseph Kosinski's relationship with Disney is anymore? Remember he was even lined up for Disney's remake of 'Black Hole', but now it's just plain nada. Then when he took 'Obilvion' from them and shopped it to Universal, it probably soured the relationship a bit too.

It's Tron Legacy, and it was a success, grossing over 400 million

if it was an official success they would be right now filming. studios would like to make as much money as possible.

It wasn't a failure either, it just performed well. Though it's simply not big enough of a franchise for Disney to really care, when they have sure billion contenders like Pirates of the caribbean, Star Wars, Alice, The Avengers, or even Indiana Jones if they play their cards right

I think they may as well give Hedlund something to do in a Marvel or SW flick now since Tron was supposed to be his franchise.

I'm kinda happy that's he's doing well in the indie scene. He's even in the new Coen Brothers film, so that's something.

Disney has bigger fish to fry, as if were.

Exclusive: TRON 3 Could Shoot This Year, Bruce Boxleitner Says
The TRON star hints at what might be in the upcoming sequel.
Fred Topel said:
The Hallmark Channel held a dinner party for the Television Critics Association and for all of their talent from original movies and series. Bruce Boxleitner stars in Hallmark's “Cedar Cove," so after dinner I approached him for an interview. I went straight to Tron questions and he was game. Boxleitner actually said he’s heard they could be ready to shoot a sequel to TRON: Legacy as soon as the end of 2014.

“All I know is, they don’t tell me anything, but they want to do it I would say probably the end of this year, for 2015 maybe,” Boxleitner said. “They don’t have any dates but I’m thinking from the scuttlebutt I’m hearing that’s it, but I don’t know anything for sure other than they do have a script they love, they’re still tweaking.”

The script is being written by Jesse Wigutow and David DiGilio, since Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are now producing “Once Upon a Time.” Joseph Kosinski is still attached to direct.

If the film takes place more in the real world than “the grid,” as the end of Legacy suggests, Alan Bradley (Boxleitner) will have a bigger part. “That’s what I’m told, but you didn’t hear me say that,” Boxleitner joked. “I think it’s going to be a lot about taking the company back because if you remember Sam Flynn says to Alan at the end, just before he rides his bike off into the sunrise with Quorra, says, ‘We’re going to take the company back.’ That’s not the end of the movie. That’s the beginning of the next one. That’s foreshadowing. And you don’t get Cillian Murphy to do an unscripted cameo.”

As recently as our 2012 interview with Murphy he claimed he only played Edward Dillinger as a cameo, even though a short film on the TRON: Legacy Blu-ray says he is important.

“I got a feeling Eddie Dillinger Jr.’s going to be as bad as his dad was,” Boxleitner said.

We will have more on TRON: Legacy. End of line.

Composer Joe Trapanese talks 'Raid 2,' Daft Punk and Tom Cruise's Le Mans film
How will Joseph Kosinski pull off a historical car movie, and when is 'Tron 3?'
Katie Hasty said:
PARK CITY, Utah - Joseph Trapanese barely had time to sigh relief once he was done with the score to "The Raid 2," one of the toasts of the Sundance Film Festival this year.

The composer -- along with the filmmakers including director Gareth Evans -- was still editing the action flick only 48 hours before its premiere at the Park City fest. And compared to the first film, this sequel was even more of a marathon, considering it was an hour longer than the original "The Raid."

And, actually, "the first cut was 3.5 hours long," Trapanese admitted during our chat at Sundance last week.

It seems like Joe Trapanese hasn't had many breathers at all in the last five years, as he's composed, conducted and arranged for big budget, edit-sensitive projects including "Oblivion" with M83, "Tron: Legacy" with recent Grammy winners Daft Punk and "The Raid's" American cut from 2012 with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda; he's also worked on TV digs like "Tron: Uprising" and "Dexter" in between.

When it's come to working with the array of musicians he has, Trapanese said it's a lot of give and take.

"What's interesting about these collaborations is from day one, you really have to wrap your head around what skills am I gonna bring to the table, what skills is my collaborator gonna bring to the table, when are they gonna drive, when am I gonna drive," he said. "It's about creating a comfortable and safe environment for people to really speak their mind."

Of Daft Punk, he said the duo is "really inspiring, they work really hard," and buck the image of pop stars that are "full of themselves" and egotistical. "Daft Punk is not like that at all."

Of "Tron 3," Trapanese said that "we're doing our best to get it off the ground," that he's waiting for a signal from Disney and "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski on when that sequel's a "go."

Kosinski has another project due before that will reunite him with his "Oblivion" actor Tom Cruise. "Go Like Hell" is based off of the book "Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans" and the 1966 Le Mans race; Brad Pitt is still a "possible" addition, according to Trapanese. He said he's eager to see what Kosinski -- who, up to this point, has only directed sci-fi bent "Oblivion" and "Tron" -- can do with "something historic."

"I love what he does," Trapanese said of Kosinski. He went into how "Tron: Legacy" was received and Kosinski's touch on the material. "One of the things that people never really understood about the sequel 'Tron: Legacy' is that if you watch the original, it's so campy, it's so funny in many ways. That kind of went over people's heads, who are used to something more Nolan-esque, serious, and thought 'Tron: Legacy' would be trying to do more of the same. If you look at it with a nod to the original film, it's even better than what people give it credit for."

Watch the rest of our interview for Trapanese's thoughts on synths, hip-hop, Moby and Death Grips, and what the 40-year-old stock broker guys will be trading their guitars for in the future.

So Kosinski is doing another movie before Tron 3? 1st I have heard of this, I thought Tron 3 was his next movie, disappointing.

From The Wrap October 23, 2013:
Tom Cruise, ‘Oblivion’ Director Joseph Kosinski to Reteam for Fox’s ‘Go Like Hell’ (Exclusive)
The movie chronicles automaker Henry Ford II’s rivalry with Enzo Ferrari
Jeff Sneider said:
Tom Cruise and “Oblivion” director Joseph Kosinski are planning to reteam for the racing movie “Go Like Hell,” multiple individuals familiar with the 20th Century Fox project have told TheWrap.

The film is based on A.J. Baime’s book “Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans.”

While there are no deals in place yet for Cruise or Kosinski, the duo are in talks to develop “Go Like Hell” as a starring vehicle for Cruise.

Story is set in the early 1960s when the Ford Motor Company was falling behind in the sports car marketplace, with baby boomers preferring to buy fast, stylish automobiles rather than safe, comfortable vehicles.

The book follows Henry Ford II, who with the help of young visionary Lee Iacocca and former racing champion-turned-engineer Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company by entering the high-stakes world of European car racing, which had been dominated by Enzo Ferrari up until then.

The trio set out to design, build and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game at the world’s most prestigious and dangerous race — Le Mans.

Cruise has his eye on the role of Shelby, according to an individual familiar with the project.

Jason Keller wrote a draft of the script back when Michael Mann was developing the project. Paramount has been developing its own version of the story as it owns Shelby’s life rights, as well as a script originally written by Lisa Schrager.

Cruise and Kosinski are coming off of “Oblivion,” which grossed $286 million worldwide. Cruise will first shoot “Mission: Impossible 5″ with frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie. The actor knows his way around the race track, having starred in Tony Scott’s 1990 action-drama “Days of Thunder.”

Cruise next stars in Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow,” which Warner Bros. will release June 6. He’s represented by CAA and Greenberg Glusker.

Shanghai Disneyland Gets A TRON Coaster

Eisner Out's Shanghai Disneyland and the new "TRON Lightcycles Power Run" Coaster.

Michael Eisner, the Ex-CEO of the Walt Disney Company, has outed the newest ride at Shanghai Disneyland. Fan are both elated and completely pissed off at the exact same time once they found out what this new roller coaster with the black supports was.

The new roller coaster coming to Shanghai Disneyland is based on none other than the beloved franchise- TRON. The new "TRON Lightcycles Power Run" coaster is rumored to open with the park in December, 2015. No one is yet sure which coaster company is building the ride of if it's a Disney "In-House" project- without track yet being visible, fans and coaster folks aren't speculating.

...either way, why the hell is Shanghai getting all the awesome stuff?

We're getting stuck with Avatarland and Shanghai gets a Tron Coaster!

I would ride that thing in a heartbeat if I wasn't so deathly afraid of rollercoasters.

That sucks, I've wanted that since I saw Legacy and it won't be stateside.
