Ultimate Comics Thread - Part 1

Okay, big news guys, Bendis just twittered this image:

407831_10150532880971361_97275706360_9391908_1563935800_n.jpg

Why is this signifcant? the image is a combination of the Death of Spider-man polybag logo and Miles's logo.

"Starting today, we fight ideas with better ideas. The idea of crime with the idea of Peter Parker. From today on, Spider-Man will be everywhere it's dark, no place to hide." =P

ugh, that looks like Pete's coming back already. that didn't take long.

Nah, Bendis already said he's not bringing him back.

It makes sense for both opportunist heroes and villains to be inspired by Peter's death, thats probably why Scorpion is moving from Mexico to New York to make it his turf with both Kingpin and Spider-Man gone.

Bendis confirmed Kong is coming back, i really feel like this is Bendis returning the "Amazing Friends" teenager heroes vibe back, while also going abit "Batman Incorporated"

I know Bendis said he wouldn't bring him back. But Bendis says a lot of things. I really think it's a matter of time before it happens. In some grande, UNIVERSE SHATTERING event, like Marvel tends to do. But I hope I'm wrong.

That said, I hope we do get an Amazing Friends feel from this book again. That's how it felt to me right after Immonen took over from Bagley. We saw the supporting cast more than we had in a while, and I thought it was great.

I wanna see Johnny and Bobby interact with Miles. Their reactions would be interesting.

I hope you're wrong too. It would be a major drop of the ball. I mean, Bendis talked how he pitched 2 years worth of stories out of Death of Spider-Man, and to me the idea of people getting inspired by the death would be natural. Yeha i really wanna see the Amazing Friends vibe, and yeah seeing the new Mutants (Jimmy, Bobby, Storm) meeting this brand new Spidey would be cool to see. Especially with Johnny and Bobby.

This is probably the project Sara Pichelli is penciling right now and why Chris Samnsee took over USM.

I actually liked Samnee on the last issue. The art was simple and cartoony, sure. But I always prefer that to over rendered pencils like Jim Lee and David Finch. Especially on a book where it fits the tone, like Ultimate Spider-man.

When Pichelli leaves, I want Immonen back. He was rocking Ult Spidey.

Ultimates #7 variant by Oliver Coipel i think:

Yeah Immonen was boss, i don't think he has any project going on right now.

I love how they have undone Loeb injuries to the the Ultimate verse. Hawkeye has no mask and Thor has his real hammer. I don't think they are bringing back Peter. The Ultimate universe is where they can do all of this and have no take backs. If Marvel wanted to they would have did some time travel story to restore everything before Ultimatum. But no they have kept moving forward. This is the universe where heroes can die and stay dead but they can be replaced.

I'm wondering if Cap will stay permanently out of the game or if Hickman will bring him back in the 11th hour...

Well like everything, Steve Rogers doesn't need to be the man with the shield.

Nick Spencer interview: Mutants go Global, also includes #8 preview of Ultimate X-Men

Some highlights on what's to come:

"We're still exploring the nature of what the X-Gene is, but in issue #6 we hint that the X-Gene is in fact man-made technology. That's why Stryker is able to do what he does to mutants, because of his ability to communicate with technology," Spencer explained. "We are going to explore the history of the X-Gene. We'll touch on that in issue #12. That is going to be another big, shocking moment for readers who have been following along."

"That is going to be a major part of the book as well. There will be consequences for his actions. Val Cooper, who is a major part of our story, will have to deal with a lot of them. She's a new Ultimate character that I'm enormously proud of and a love to write," Spencer continued. "We are going to see in issue #8 that Val has more problems on her hands then she even realizes. That's another one I think is going to surprise the hell out of people. It's fun because we're still in our set up phase. Really our first year is all about setting the foundations and stage. We are now at the point though where the twists will start coming real fast."
One of the Spencer's unknown twists is Quicksilver's true agenda, which has been murky since "Ultimate Comics Fallout." Is the former member of the Ultimates insane? Is he out to destroy mutants or save them? According to Spencer, readers may soon get answers.
"Pietro is the focus of issue #7 and we're going to spend some time with him. We'll answer a couple of the questions we posed about what he's doing, why he's doing it, and who's instructing him to do it. He's one of my favorite characters to write in the book. He has been since we started setting things up in 'Ultimate Comics Fallout,'" said Spencer. "We've seen him make a play in the private sector with Worldwide Solutions. We'll find out more about the extent of that. We've seen him make a political power play with his grabbing the president's ear. The ramifications of both of those moves on his part are going to be felt throughout this series. I believe at the beginning of issue #7 it's going to be really clear to the readers just how devastating those choices he's made have been for mutants throughout the entire United States."
Looking to the upcoming arc of "Ultimate Comics X-Men," Spencer will focus on some characters that have only appeared briefly -- like Quicksilver -- and others who have not appeared in the book yet at all, meaning readers will be taking a break from Kitty's rag-tag team of teen mutants.

"The biggest thing about the second arc is that we're not going to spend any time with the kids. We're going to be doing quick stop ins across the country and across the globe and seeing the reverberations of what happened with Kitty, Rogue, Bobby, Johnny and Jimmy. So we're now going to take six issues away from our main cast and in this age of impatience it's a little terrifying for a writer to do that," said Spencer. "Knowing what I know about the third arc though, which is about starting to connect these things and seeing how they're all inter related, it's going to make it so much sweeter when we come back to Kitty and company in issue #13."

One of the locales Spencer visits in the second arc of "Ultimate Comics X-Men" is the Southeast Asian Republic, home to two new mutant dominated cities; the Celestial and Eternal cities ruled by brothers Xorn and Zorn. Jonathan Hickman introduced the cities and their rulers in his recent "Ultimate Comics Hawkeye" mini-series.
"Jon set up a really amazing other component to mutants' statuses in the Ultimate Universe with the appearance of Xorn, Zorn and their cities. We're going to be playing with all of that in a big way. We started to see a little bit of that in issue #6 when the Oracle appeared, but issue #8 will link these two stories very intimately," said Spencer. "Ultimate Hawkeye' ended with Karen Grant, Liz Allen and Derek Morgan -- the stars of 'Ultimate Comics X' -- still in the SEAR. What they're doing and what's happening there is going to be a huge moment. I know lot of 'Ultimate X' fans have wondered when we're going to see those characters and what's going to happen to them. All I can say is make sure you check out that issue because they are the focal point there."

I thought the X-gene was already confirmed to be human made? It was in that ****** Ultimate Origins.

Yeah it was, but Spencer is talking about how it has further twists to it all.

How can anyone NOT like sucha optimistic child like charming little fella?

Hickman is leaving Ultimate Comics: Ultimates and is being replaced by Sam Humphries. I gotta say, it feels like Marvel is abandoning this book. Actually, I think Marvel is pretty much ready to abandon the entire Ultimate line outside of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man.

Hickman is co-writing pretty much till December/whenever he takes over Avengers. You've felt Marvel is abondining Ultimate Marvel for YEARS now. You constantly keep coming here just to give some doomsays. Also why wouldn't they care about Ultimate X-Men? Nick Spencer's run is well received and the Ultimate Mutants have been given attention thru interviews and previews.

When February sales come we can also see if a free digital copy excites customers.

I temporarily thought that Marvel was reinvigorating the line with the latest relaunch, but replacing Hickman with a nobody? That's just dooming the book.

That's pretty harsh. Humphries is getting much love with his indie work.

Exactly.

Both Hickman & Aaron are getting Indie writers to work on Marvel. Cullen Bunn is taking over Wolverine, Hickman is co-writing with Sam Humphries till he's taking over whatever 616 title it is, so we're talking NOVEMBER/DECEMBER/January2013 latest here.

Yet here you are, gloating your doom speach just like it was 2009 again.

The Ultimate line did do horribly in 2009. Why else do you think that Marvel relaunched it (with some impressive talent by the way) last year?

But look at it. None of these relaunches have saved the line at all and it continues to bleed readers despite all that Marvel has done for it. And putting a no name writer on a line that needs high profile creative teams is just going to speed it up.

I got nothing against Humphries, but just like putting Bunn on Captain America & is essentially dooming that book, putting a small timer on a supposedly high profile book that continues to lose more and more relevance doesn't work in today's industry.

Ultimate Marvel has despite your doom gloating stayed consistant for years, unlike books such as Wolverine & the X-Men which start high but loose more then 25% of it's readers by the end of #1 alone.

Miles Morals relaunch also went better than post-Ultimatum relaunch did for Spidey. Really, you're just doom gloating here, and before you know it next year you're again doom gloating and the year after until you realize you've been doing this for years, le sigh. :p

Did Wolverine and the X-men drop that much?
