Character's Origin and Biography:

Early Life & Career

Oliver Queen’s childhood was not idyllic, it was not the picture of utopia. Robert Queen however wouldn’t let the suffocation squelch his ambitions— a fact that became obvious as he turned his small startup company, Queen Industries, into the likes of a Fortune 500 in what seemed like an overnight success. Soon the little fish became known as a titan as it increased its strength with affiliations with Ferris Aerospace, Bolt Financial, and others until it became a rival to old money corporations such as Wayne Enterprises. From a young age Oliver knew what it was to be ambitious, determined, and powerful.

However, Oliver’s mother lost her life to cancer fairly early in his life thus leading to a empty single parent household. Oliver could see his father’s own despair as it led Robert through several relationships; this always moving sight of relationships made him feel uncomfortable and wary— he swore he wouldn’t go through life so recklessly. Unlike his father Oliver took to coping in different ways such as martial arts, archery, and academics; his favorite was archery.

The new millennium didn’t bring much hope back into the world but for Oliver there was some light to this and at the age of eighteen the news of his father’s second wife brought a daughter into the Queen legacy named Emiko Queen. Oliver wouldn’t have much time to bond with the infant as he set his sights for University as he left the west coast to study at Metropolis University in the ivory-touched “utopia” that was the City of Metropolis. Whilst at University he met Sandra Hawke who too was going towards a degree in Business; the two would become more than friends in time. His time at college would have him see firsthand the machine that was LexCorp as it began to restore and gentrify rotten neighborhoods. A gentrification that made Oliver sick to his stomach as he worked for his business degree. Oliver saw it as the greed of corporate America— a greed that rolled over the little guy to plop hipster neighborhoods on once thriving blue collar neighborhoods. How could they be so blind to what they were doing?

Following University, Oliver Queen wasn’t quite ready to go home. The debut of Superman had been a empowering experience as he looked to restore peace and integrity to the word “hero”. Even with the military’s unjust outlook towards vigilantism, Oliver was convinced he had to start doing something instead of barking liberal politics that he couldn’t preach. The next few years had Oliver experience Iran and Afghanistan at their worst… until he caught the eye of one military official who offered a promotion to do “real good” with a “tough” unit dedicated to covert operations overseas. Oliver did not hesitate to join.

A few years after joining the squad Oliver would find himself on his most harrowing mission yet: Lian Yu. The mission was the textbook definition of a disaster. After landing on the island their transport was shot down, communication lines were cut, their contact a double agent, the group ambushed, and Oliver left for dead. Learning to survive on his own and swearing to get off the island to fulfil his promise to his now dead comrade, Oliver began to default back to his training as he learned about the island— from the herbs to the geography to the wildlife… he memorized it all. He refused to be an unmarked gravestone. Using only his wits and a bow he would take down the entire insurgent operation. A situation that Waller was impressed by following Oliver’s extraction; so impressed she offered him a command position of a squad of his choosing. However, he had a promise to keep… and he had been away from home for too long.

It was time to go home.
The Arrow: The Early Years

Oliver Queen returned to Star City fatigued from his time with the military and found himself ready to put his business degree to good use. His father commended him on his “patriotism” and re-introduces Oliver to his half-sister, Emiko, who is now nine years of age. However, Oliver feels uneasy as a business leader when he sees how much worse Star City has gotten in his absence; drugs fill the streets while poverty ravages the low income neighborhoods of the city, but what can he do about it? But before Oliver can sort his thoughts everything falls apart.

Robert Queen was dead.

Now the guardian of Emiko Queen and with a wave of inheritance coming his way, Oliver is overwhelmed by the death of his father; an alleged suicide. Oliver begins to investigate as he suspects foul play— all evidence suggests this was not what it seemed… but actually a well set up murder. Oliver enlists the aide of Queen Industries Security Consultant John Diggle and Police Detective Mack Morgan. As legitimate means seem to be uneventful Oliver looks to the heroes of past and present as he dons a green hood and bow in the darkness of the night. Oliver soon deduces that Daniel Brickwell, an important executive in Queen Industries, is responsible and a fight ensues that ends in the arrest of Brickwell. Green Arrow is born.

Seeing the good he can do outside of the law, Oliver decides to not retire the Green Arrow alias as a one-time thing. Swearing to fight corruption like the Justice Society of America had in the twentieth century, Oliver begins his crusade against crime as he sets up base underneath the Queen Estate. His only confidant is John Diggle; who despite also being ex-military agrees that vigilantism is the best route to help those who need it. Green Arrow’s first year begins. Green Arrow soon comes to deal with frantic drug lord Werner Zytle who has infected the population with the drug known as Vertigo. As Green Arrow becomes a hassle, Zytle hires an infamous assassin known as Deadshot to deal with the vigilante. The vigilante loses and is apprehended by police with two broken arms in a dumpster. Zytle's operation crumbles not too long after.

At his father’s funeral, it was then that Oliver crossed paths with Sandra Hawke for the second time. Oliver was surprised when she told him she had found herself pregnant when he left for the military and that his father had opened an account in her son’s name, ensuring financial stability and a job in Queen Industries marketing department. Not long after this the two reconcile and continue dating. Oliver meets his then five year old son, Connor Hawke.

Some time later, Oliver would have to contend with the terrorist organization known as HYRAX, when the organization crashes a public event held by Queen Industries in the guise of activism. Green Arrow is all too eager to deal with the eco-terrorists when they begin to use extreme methods of violence, though the aftermath of the incident does make Oliver look into Queen Industries developments that harm the environment and look for alternative options. Dealing with HYRAX was only the beginning of that year, a fact Oliver would realize when he found himself involved in a case involving the serial killer known as Cupid. The pattern was erratic but easy to pinpoint after some careful observation: men who were blatant womanizers and unfaithful husbands. Unfortunately for Oliver, that meant way too many people in Star City so he had to create a trap. Expanding on his persona as “Ollie” he turned his charisma into a weapon as he began having brief relationships (of which he fed to the press) and the suggestion that his relationship with Sandra Hawke ended because he didn’t want to take responsibility for the son that came from their time together. The trap had sufficient bait with this information out there and as Green Arrow he awaited Cupid to break into the Queen Estate. Cupid was quickly defeated and soon apprehended by the police.

By his third year, Green Arrow has become an icon of Star City much like the other heroes who refuse to halt their vigilantism. This leads to the hiring of a bounty hunter named Highkick to curb Green Arrow's progress. This begins to create problems for Oliver in Star City as Highkick makes it a point to capture Green Arrow and make an example of the vigilante— during a particularly important case where Green Arrow is trying to stop a vicious serial killer known as the Clock King. However, intervention by a hacker by the name of Roy Harper makes things… somehow less complicated when information is fed to Green Arrow about the serial killer whilst he slows Highkick down by feeding them with faulty information. As the Clock King is defeated, Roy Harper reveals to Green Arrow that he knows his identity but wants to help more actively. Oliver calls it blackmail but accepts the terms considering his options with Highkick on his tail.
The Emerald Archer: Later Adventures & Newfound Alliances

Throughout the succeeding years, it seemed like Oliver Queen was being tested and challenged exponentially to the point that it appeared that the universe wanted to break his spirit and his soul. And for a little while it almost won in that goal.

The murder of Sandra Hawke by a newly metahuman Brick, Merlyn’s plot to punish Star City through several terrorist attacks, being forced to survive in a psychopath’s “test” of survival back on Lian Yu, Merlyn’s organization of “The Longbow Hunters”, Slingshot’s debut, his new partner Black Canary being nearly murdered, Roy Harpers bitter independence, fanatical religious sentiment in Star City, Geomancer’s employment by forces unknown, and the mysterious Prometheus besting him at every turn— Oliver Queen was exhausted.

Time had not been kind to him or his mission; and that wasn’t accounting for all the woes he had to put up on a national and international scale with The Justice League. But despite all of that Oliver had still maintained a network with his friends, allies, and wards— Roy Harper had amended their differences and was operating as Red Arrow, Emiko Queen had donned the callsign of Arsenal, his son working alongside him as Speedy, and his relationship with Black Canary strengthening after years of hardship and conflictions.

In a way it was what was keeping him sane.

But for how long?
Allegiances/Affiliations:

The Justice League
Queen Industries

Powers and Abilities:

Archery: First and foremost of Oliver's abilities is his prowess with a bow and arrow. He can use anything from the most simple bows and arrows to complicated composite bows and trick arrows with full efficiency. Archery is like second nature to him, and many have said that his marksmanship is like that of a metahuman’s. He was happy to prove them wrong.

Stealth & Investigation: Oliver has had to be smart and quiet, a fact that was groomed in the field. Upon becoming Green Arrow he has only honed these skills to combat the dirty politics of his city. He can deduce the qualities of herbs, toxins, and chemicals as well as sneak up on a trained assassin.

Inventor: Oliver is a technical genius as evident by the several developments of what the press has called "trick arrows"; with each invention having a useful utility in his warfare on the corruption in his city.

Martial Arts: Receiving training from both Slade Wilson and Rick Flagg, Oliver has become a skilled martial artist. While not as capable as, say, Batman, he has proven on more than one occasion that he is more than able to hold his own.

Peak Human Conditioning: In order to survive on Lian Yu, Oliver had to push his body to the very limit, transforming it into a weapon. Most notable of his enhanced capabilities is his hand-eye coordination, many mistaking him for a metahuman purely due to his reflexes and eyesight.

Acrobatics: A capable acrobat, Oliver often incorporates archery into his manoeuvres, pulling off seemingly impossible shots.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character:

I suppose the general idea with this interpretation of Oliver Queen is to portray an older and grittier version of the character; Andy has most certainly painted an older league which is something I’ve never gotten to do in these games before. I’ve chosen the character because Green Arrow has been a character I’ve liked since when I was kid— I remember playing him on Justice League Task Force, a mediocre fighting game for the Sega Genesis and I know I loved him when he was interpreted on the silver screen via Justice League Unlimited.

If you know how to post pictures, please provide a picture of your character:

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

The world was a funny place sometimes. One minute you’re chasing after serial killer who was stealing your motif and the next you are stumbling downhill through a thicket of tropical brush. However for The Emerald Archer, Green Arrow, this wasn’t a joke he had been clued in on. Apparently the punchline was him— a punchline he wasn’t quite the fan of.

It didn’t take a genius intellect to realize that he had been transported outside of Star City, but as far as the four w’s went he had no idea outside of the fact that he felt sore. The last thing he remembered was closing in on what the Star City press had called “The Rainbow Archer” and to say he was unhappy about having a proven psychopath slip out of his fingers was an understatement. The Rainbow Archer had eighteen confirmed kills. Honestly during the course of his investigation he nearly sent out a message to The Caped Crusader himself asking how he dealt with all of the copycats in Gotham. Having someone make a mockery of what you did by using an inspiration of what you do to facilitate senseless murder was like seeing a mirror image of yourself— albeit one twisted, cracked, and tipped topsy-turvy. And now somebody was responsible for The Rainbow Archer endangering more people.

The Emerald Archer’s teeth clenched as his fall came to a sharp halt.

Whoever is responsible for transporting me to wherever I am is going to be really sorry.

On that point, the blonde-haired vigilante didn’t remember someone sneaking up and hitting him upside the head— there was none of the “morning after” pains of blunt force trauma. He wasn’t drugged, he’d know if he was. So it all came to an answer that nearly made him groan audibly: magic. He had rarely dealt with enemies of that… type; so to deduce it had to be magic was rather annoying.

Who did he piss off that could just blink him out of Star City? Or for that matter…

…where the hell was he?

He got up to his feet, cracking his sore neck from the abrasive fall. The island wasn’t inherently recognizable but it felt… familiar. The look of it reminded him of his days on Lian Yu... but something was off. It wasn’t like he had put to memory the entirety of Lian Yu, but the trees were wrong – that much was apparent by the color of the bark. Trees on Lian Yu were not birch white nor did the species of the Mecynorhina Ugandensis exist in the Southeastern Pacific.

That’s not right.
SHFF!!!
A rustling right behind the vigilante made him turn sharply, on instinct, with arrow nocked. His brows narrowed he saw something that threw him off.

Now, he had just been dealing with a poor imitation of himself… but this was ridiculous. Green Arrow found himself surprised by the enemy that looked back at him. He had no idea what a mirror image was before today, really— because who he was staring down at was another blonde-haired, green cloaked, bow-at-the-ready, handsome individual. Another Green Arrow… another Oliver Queen. What the hell was going on?

“I’m sorry, pal, this isn’t a good time for a Green Arrow convention. Your costume is terrible by-the-way.” He remarked at the intruder with a nervous grin.

Screen Name: You know who I am, goddammit! It's AC!

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): John Constantine

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): WTL

Character's Origin and Biography (please provide at least two paragraphs explaining your character's history to the present day):

John Constantine (Pronounced so it rhymes with nine) was born in Liverpool, England in 1975 to Marry Anne and Thomas Constantine. His mother died in childbirth, leaving the baby and his older sister Cheryl alone with their father, who hated and resented John for the death of his wife. A religious man, Thomas threw himself into the Bible and enacted petty revenge on John by severely punishing the boy for the slightest transgressions. Young John rebelled from his dad by embracing the occult and rock and roll. Thomas beat his son with an electrical cord when he discovered John reading a book on Aleister Crowley. John delved more into music and occult as he became a teenager.

At the age of 17 John and a few of his neighborhood friends started a band named Mucous Membrane, a punk band in the style of the Sex Pistols. The band floundered as a punk band during the time that punk was out. John began to enter the occult underground society of London around this time. He acquired his first taste of magical power shortly after and used it to his advantage. He began using a charm spell that would captivate and dazzle audiences during his shows, making the mediocre band seem better than they actually were. Mucous Membrane soon developed a cult following and toured across the UK and America. He delved further into magic after establishing connections with many prominent American mages, stage magicians, and occultists. John's desire for more and more magical power grew as he was exposed to more and more of it.

In 1996 everything changed. During a show in a small nightclub in Connecticut, John tried to conjur a simple fire spell for the crowd. The spell, and the sacrifice needed, soon got out of control and caused a raging inferno to engulf the club. Twenty-seven people died in the fire and Constantine escaped, but suffered a mental breakdown that caused him to become committed as an American insane asylum. After four years in the institution he was released just in time for the new millennium. John made a living as a small time hustler and stage magician. He traveled America for six years billed simply as Constantine. During this time he read every single book on magic he could fine. He learned about the effects of magic and their costs.

He developed a reputation in both criminal and occult circles as a powerful mage and an untrustworthy operator. In 2007, Constantine returned back home to London to help a friend with a tricky situation. Jamie O'Malley, a dying man, had sold his soul to the Devil some years ago. Constantine used his best conman methods and tricks to keep the Devil at bay long enough for the contract with Jamie to become null and void, allowing Jamie's soul to go to Heaven. The trick put Constantine on Hell's hit list and drew the attention of Heaven. Word of the feat began to spread and before long, Constantine found himself being asked favors from many powerful people. Now John Constantine wonders the world learning and investigating the occult and the strange, not knowing where his next pint or pack of cigarettes will come from. He occasionally helps those in need if he feels like it, or there happens to be nothing good on telly.

Supporting Cast

Ray - Owner of an occult bookstore in Manhattan

Chas Chandler - John's friend from England, a taxi driver by trade who helps John out on occasion.

Map - The Personification of London

Lucifer - Former ruler of Hell. Now owns and operates Lux, a piano bar in Los Angeles.

Zatanna - Fellow magician/ex-girlfriend of John's (Leaving details about her as blank as possible for anyone else)

Papa Midnite - Voodoo Priest and New Orleans mob boss.

Morpheus - King of Dreams, one of the Seven Endless

Alec Holland/Swamp Thing - A scientist turned into the avatar of the Green (Like Zatanna, vague for the sake of a potential PC)

Allegiances/Affiliations: Shadowpact (Reserve)

Powers and Abilities:

John Constantine is a mage who can preform a variety of spells, though he only uses them as a last resort. His knowledge on magic, spells, curses, and the charms of the arcane is extensive bordering on encyclopedic. Constantine is also a trained stage magician and escape artist with abilities in sleight of hand, pickpocketing, and hypnosis. In addition to that he is a first rate conman and manipulator who once tricked the devil himself.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):

I guess I would say that my thesis with Constantine isn't too much of a stretch from what other writers have done with him. The main theme I want to weave through my narrative is that magic is dangerous and unnatural. It's cheating and the toll magic takes is often not worth what it does for you. I want to juxtapose that with the idea that the choices we make are just as damning as magic can be. You don't need a spell to ruin someone's life to destroy a friendship, all that takes is one conscious decision. As far as the stories go I figure I'll have him operating all over the world doing various tasks and jobs for people. A lot of writers like to lean heavily into the Judeo-Christian mythology with Constantine, but I want to stray from that and try to primarily focus on the occult.

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue):

For my next trick I'll need a volunteer from the audience.

How about you? Yes, you. Step right up and don't be shy. Your name? Lovely. Now, I have in my hands a simple deck of cards. Watch my hands as I fan through them and you can tell this is an ordinary deck, yes? Here, take it and examine it. Looks good? Good. Now pick a card, pick any card. Hold it up for the audience to see while I turn away. A bit higher, there you go. Good. Memorize it and place it back into the deck. Excellent. While I shuffle the deck I want you to picture something in your mind's eye. Think about the best day of your life. It could be a birthday, that day you hit the winning shot and won the big game, your wedding day, the day your children were born, or just a day you got an extra order of fries. Doesn't make a sod bit of difference what day it was, just recapture that feeling. That feeling of triumph and utter achievement. Have you got that? Good.

Now do us a favor and focus on something else. Focus on the best booze you've ever drank, or the best coke you've ever snorted, or even the best sex you've ever had. Take that highest of highs, couple it with the best day of your life and multiply those feelings a thousandfold. The end result, that orgasmic accomplishment that makes you feel like the biggest swinging dick in the world, that's the feeling that magic does to you. No, I don't mean that 'watch me pull a rabbit out of me hat' bollocks they pass off as magic on telly. I mean elemental magic. I mean the type of magic that can make beautiful people fall madly in love with you and make your enemies blood boil. Magic gives you the power to make all your hopes and wishes happen in the blink of an eye. You can go anywhere, you can be anything. People begin to fear you. It makes you feel unstoppable, makes you think you're a god. Now, I mentioned blow and booze earlier for a reason. Magic is just as intoxicating as that speedball or that fantastic piece of *****. Like those two examples magic comes with a price, a terrible price. It can hollow your insides out until you're nothing but a dried up husk that threatens to blow away under a stiff breeze. I've seen two-bit mages literally try to sell their souls for just a little bit more power. Once upon a time I was one of them.

Me old man was a machinist. He welded and worked a lathe but he wouldn't **** with electrical problems on anything, regardless if it was a blown transformer or a circuit breaker. He always said that he knew enough about electricity to know he didn't want to **** with it. He was a ****ing wanker, but I think his thoughts sum it up pretty nicely. Every spell, every charm or hex or incantation, requires a sacrifice of some sort. There's always a price to pay somewhere down the line. I was too far down that road before I realized that truth. Now I just keep the meter running and keep moving. Best case scenario is I'll be in Hell where I belong before that bill comes due. And here we have the three of spades. Was that your card? How did I do that? Have you been listening to a ****ing word I said, mate? I'm magic.

Brighton Beach
Brooklyn

Dimitri Tsonovich sipped mineral water and watched the front door anxiously. It was late, nearly four in the morning, and his men were due back at any moment. The water was disgusting but he needed something to do with his hands to keep him busy. What he really needed was vodka, but he needed to be sober for what was coming next. A loud thump echoed from inside the house, followed by a muffle screamed. Dimitri shuddered and made the sign of the cross. He had never been religious growing up, religion hadn't been encouraged in the Soviet Union, and he remained absent of faith when he came to America. In his business one tended to be jaded about God and right and wrong.

The front door opened suddenly and his three men came through, holding a struggling man between them. Their quarry cursed and yelled through the black clothed hood on his head while the three heavies set him on the floor on his knees. Dimitri looked at his men and nodded softly. The hood was ripped from the man's face. The scowling face of John Constantine blinked two or three times before looking up and seeing Dimitri.

"Dimitri Tsonovich," Constantine said in his thick Northern English accent. "Long time no see, mate."

"You seem to be doing well for yourself," Constantine added as he looked around the expansive living room. "What is it the papers call you now, the Godfather of Russian Organized Crime or some bollocks? You've come a long way from Mikhail's bodyguard who he called simple and good for---"

Dimitri slapped Constantine hard across the side of the face. The Englishman spat blood on the hardwood floor, something that earned him another backhanded slap from the Russian. Constantine smiled a bloody smile up at his assailant.

"You stole two hundred thousand dollars from me," Dimitri said matter-of-factly. "Two hundred thousand dollars from anyone else and you are dead with your dick cut off and stuffed in your mouth. I forgive the money. After all, is only two hundred thousand. I make that in a few days. I forgive because I know all about what you can do, John Constantine. You have your uses, I see that. One day you may be able to help me. So, I--"

Another thump and moan from inside the house stopped Dimitri from continuing. Constantine arched an eyebrow and smiled wider at the man. Cursing in his native tongue, Dimitri snapped his fingers and his men shoved Constantine back on his feet and herded him through the large house towards a back room. They pushed him through the door after their boss went through. Constantine's wide smile disappeared from his face when he entered the room.

Tied to the bed was a teenage girl. Her long back hair covered her sweaty face as she shook and writhed on the bed. She wore a pair of plaid pajamas that were stained with vomit on the chest. Although she looked like a teenage girl, the guttural sounds she made in her throat were deep and hoarse. The girl's struggling stopped almost as soon as Constantine entered.

"There's someone here," she said in that deep voice. Her head snapped up and a pair of fiery red eyes locked with Constantine. "John Constantine! The man the Pit spat back out."

"My reputation proceeds itself," he said with a wink.

"Your ****ing father takes it up the ass in Hell!"

"I hope so. He was a wanker, he has it coming."

"Three days she is like this," Dimitri said as the girl went back to thrashing. "You will fix my daughter. This is your job, Constantine. You will fix her or I will do what I said earlier, shoot you in the head and shove your own severed dick in your mouth."

Constantine looked at the thrashing possessed girl, then to her crime lord father. He weighed his options and scratched his neck before checking his coat pocket.

"I need four things. I need holy water, a clove of garlic, white chalk, and a pack of Silk Cut from around the corner shop. It's been so long since I've done an exorcism."

I'm done. Went with just the need to know stuff on the origin. Everything important will come out in the story I want to tell anyway.

Yeah, sorted out mine too now, by the way.

No idea what I'm doing but that's half the fun, right?

Yeah, sorted out mine too now, by the way.

Coolness.

First Supes post is coming today. I've changed my mind like five times on who my second character is going to be, but I think I've finally figured out who it is.

Well, that Supes post took longer to get up than I'd thought, but it's up.

Also, Captain Boomerang is APPROVED. Should have done that earlier.

Ultimate DC: REBIRTH
Character Application

Screen Name: Misfit, better known as Nightrunner

Character you would like to play (please include the color and font you plan on using to portray the character): J'ohnn J'onzz - The Martian Manhunter

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero

Character's Origin and Biography (please provide at least two paragraphs explaining your character's history to the present day):
J'ohnn J'onzz arrived on Earth months after the Battle of Metropolis. He had been brought through the use of a teleportation apparatus that was designed to retrieve the nearest sentient life form on Mars. Incidentally, J'ohnn was the only living being on Mars, thanks to a devastating plague that had nearly brought his people to extinction, including his wife and daughter. Not wanting to see humanity suffer the same fate as his own people, who had ultimately destroyed themselves, he decided to make an attempt to bring evil to its end.

Initially, he patrolled different parts of the world seeking out evil men and criminals to teach them the error of their ways with a combination of brute force and mind control. It had not taken him too long to notice how quickly new threats to tranquility emerged and how disturbed people were by the loss of their free will. He took this as a cue to treat them less like a people to be conquered, but as children who would make their own decisions.

While Superman was often occupied by simply keeping the peace and order in Metropolis, with other "superheroes" dotting the globe throughout North America and Europe, he became determined to give the rest of the world an example to look to. Sometimes he would masquerade as Superman and use him as a general symbol of hope for the disenfranchised. Otherwise he would take on the likenesses of humans local to the area, after the advent of the metahuman. But when he wasn't trying to make a point, he simply introduced himself as J'ohnn J'onzz, The Martian Manhunter.

Following the formation of the Justice League, the founding trio sought out other beings who would join them in their unquenchable quest for justice. He actually was mentioned in their list of potential recruits to investigate multiple times under different pseudonyms. However, after careful consideration, it was determined that he would officially join as one being - The Martian Manhunter.

He was there throughout the hunt for the mother boxes, throughout the first Crisis. Through Superman's absence he acted as a counselor, a living diary, and he stepped up as the muscle of the Justice League. His loss hadn't quite affected J'ohnn as it had the others though, he'd already lost his entire species, a long time ago. Or so he thought.

Ma'alefa'ak killed the Martians, J'ohnn's adoptive brother. Jealous of the rest of the Green Martians gift for telepathy, a gift he lacked and was incompatible with, he concocted a scheme to kill them all as punishment for the injustice of his handicap. So he engineered a plague that would spread from one martian to another as they communicated telepathically, creating a network of systematic death. Thus they all died, all but J'ohnn who refused to communicate with anyone.

Ma'alefa'ak arrived on Earth in time to align himself with the Justice Lords, ironically. The J'ohnn J'onzz of their world was not a member of the team. Ma'alefa'ak pretended to be an aggressive hero in order to court the Justice Lords, but J'ohnn knew from the start what sorts of massacre he was capable of. His warped mind made it impossible for J'ohnn to influence him or even read his thoughts. Thus he attempted to warn everyone. And in turn, his brother frequently sullied his image and that of his colleagues by disguising himself as them while committing atrocities, all in a bid to prompt J'onzz to kill himself. He did not. Instead, Ultraman ousted Ma'alefa'ak and drive him underground.

Following the return of Superman and the new era of action for the Justice, a crew of White Martians arrived on Earth from space, calling themselves the Hyperclan. They pretended to be metahuman superheroes, using just a few of their vast abilities to create the illusion of a smaller power set. They had not initially intended to cause trouble, but a distaste for human culture caused them to become disappointed in Earth's people before deciding to wipe them out. All of them but one played along, M'gann M'orzz, who tipped J'ohnn off about their new objective. So the Justice League took affirmative action, eventually imprisoning them in an asteroid just outside Earth's orbit.

However, M'gann was allowed her freedom and was introduced to the rest of the world as J'ohnn's adoptive daughter. But she would do so the guise of a Green Martian due to the presence of a stigma against White Martians. Regardless, she proved invaluable as an asset to the Teen Titans on more than one occasion.

Things have generally been on the more stable side for J'ohnn since. But it has become increasingly apparent to him that something needs to be done to encourage mankind to take action for themselves rather than relying so heavily on the Justice League and Society to carry them through every emergency.

Allegiances/Affiliations: Justice League

Powers and Abilities:
His Martian physiology gives him a variety of abilities that humans lack. For starters, his general attributes such as perception, strength, durability, speed and agility are incomparably greater. He has the ability to alter his density, shape, size, voice and appearance. He has the ability to achieve supersonic flight. Perhaps most notably, his mind is also superhuman with abilities such as mind reading, telekinesis and mind control.

While most forms of blunt injury are unable to harm him, certain chemicals and substances can cause him significant harm. The most common of these to have a dramatic effect on him is fire, the energized oxygen strips his cells of their chemical stores of general power (like ATP). Martians never had a reason to adapt a resistance of any sort to that particular reaction because fire is not usually possible in the Martian atmosphere, lacking the oxygen. In addition to stripping him of power, fire also generally burns him. Like any normal person.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar. One to explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen. The other to explain why you've chosen this character. (i.e. What are your goals? Will you be doing anything different with the character than is usually seen?):

The Martian Manhunter is often seen doing nothing in the Watchtower, or Monitor Duty. Instead, he will be much more active in an attempt to make humanity a more heroic species. Because identifying himself as the Martian Manhunter makes it obvious that he is, by definition, not human, he chooses to often take the appearance of Superman when performing flashy feats. In general though, his approach to improving mankind is to inspire humans to help themselves, like a parent who knows they won't be around forever. How he does this is the main fuel for the season's plot.

The Martian Manhunter is criminally underused as a character, instead he is more often an extremely versatile plot device. I want to change this and write a story that solidifies his potential as a solo character and paints his world as one that fans should invest themselves more heavily in. I don't believe that the answer to writing a compelling Martian Manhunter story is to focus on Martian culture or Mars, nor is it to simply show how powerful he is. I believe that the key is to put focus on J'ohnn, something that is rarely done in comics or cartoons.

The Martian Manhunter
Metropolis

There are a great many people looking at me. I can feel them, their intentions and preconceptions about what will happen today are as apparent to my mind's eye as their race and gender. If you've ever truly spoken in public, you know the feeling well. The judgement. The suspense. The anxiety. The admiration. All a part of the same emotional spectrum, where each feeling bleeds into one another without the pseudo-mathematical boundaries one might imagine.

It is every living beings right to feel whatever they choose. Some of them feel like they would like to leave. I will allow them to decide before I begin. In my time on Earth, I've found that concentrating your vision on a human's pupil is an effective way to deter them from making a ruckus.

"Hello, dear humans. I'd appreciate it if you took a moment to consider who it is that is speaking with you. Alternatively you may ask yourself what is speaking with you. But most importantly, why. Ask yourself both why you are listening and why I am speaking.

There is a reason that Superman has always been the face of the Justice League. You all appreciate what he does for you, I'm sure. Does it restore your faith in your people to see such a man of action? Perhaps it even swells your little hearts with pride. He is certainly something to be proud of. He is a valued friend of mine and I love him dearly. But I digress.

There have been a number of emergencies in which your government, and others, have contacted the Justice League for assistance. Just as a citizen may call his police when he is frightened. Where do you think the Justice League came from? I have been on the Justice League almost as long as it's been in existence. But I have never raised a hand to protect any of you put of a sense of duty.

Within each and every one of us is, or at one time was, a conscience. What does yours say? Many of you wake up at seven o'clock, every day, get dressed, eat, go to work, come home and begin again, wishing you had done more. I also wish you had all done more. I wish you had not turned a blind eye to the mother yelling at her child because you feel it is not your place to protect them. I wish you had not tormented the innocent by choosing to grant killers and bullies illustrious privilege. You all want to do more.

I want you all to do more. Many of you decide that the appropriate action to take, if any at all, is to call someone else to solve your problems. But the people who protect you have abilities you could never have. The least you all could do is live up to your potential. We might not all become famous, but we all have it within us to be a hero.

With few exceptions, you here today are more willing to accept and fawn over Superman because he looks more like you. I'm not offended and there is no need for apologies, but it is characteristic of your species. You inspire each other in ways that outsiders like me cannot without pretending to be one of you.

Let us return to my original requests. What is it exactly that is speaking to you? Monster. Alien. Superhero, some have said. Humanity suffers from the same problems that killed my race. The same hatred, jealousy and cowardice. Think for a moment how many more supervillains have sprouted from your species than superheroes. It is a reflection of your societies. So I encourage you all to actively work at making your world a better one. It's something I do every single day."

"Mister.. Mister Manhunter!" Toward the front, a slender one with curly black hair, a pastry, and an affection for tobacco. "Can't you just make us heroes?"

It's an honest question. But humans don't like it when I'm completely honest in public, so I privately answer him <Put simply, yes. But so can you.> And I follow up, saying "To reference your species most popular book, this is not a repeat of Pentecost. I will not give you the spontaneous ability to speak in miraculous languages. Anything you do, you will do with your own free will and possibly.. my approval."

"Please, Mr. Manhunter. All I want is to have the same bravery as you have."

A father of four asks me "Do you have any idea how hard it is to support and protect your family without a spine?"

"I understand and sympathize for your concerns. But you are effectively begging me to overwrite any progress you've made. I encourage you all to make the most of yourselves with what you have. I could not hold you back from your full potential in good conscience."

I dig it. I would advise, though, that if you're going to use the Impact font, don't also make it bold, because the lettering on the normal font is pretty thick as is and it's kinda hard to read bold.

I'mma go ahead an APPROVE it, though.

After a couple of failed attempts, a Batman post should be coming within the next day. I've got it about halfway written now, if that alleviates any concerns.

Sorry it took so long to kick off. Feels like my brain has been turning into mush in general, lately.

I knew one of these would pop up either here or on RPG sooner or later. Before I start on her character sheet, I would like to get some feedback about whether a Lana Lang (Insect Queen) would be acceptable for this game's lore. I just wanted to make sure before I devote some time into her character sheet. :yay:

Well, that's certainly an interesting choice. I don't really have any plans to use Lana in my Superman stuff, so I don't necessarily see a reason to be opposed to it (although I'm veering more towards the movie-verse interpretation than the Silver Age stuff, so there might be a pretty hard clash of styles).

Unless I'm misunderstanding the premise of this RPG (much like All-Star Marvel, which I am running on RPG, we create our interpretations of the characters), I would definitely try to "modernize" the character to fit the lore of this game.

Also, if my math is correct, Superman and Lana should be in their early-mid 30's?

I'll draft something and we can go from there.

Gah! Andy you magnificent bastard!

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero

Character's Origin and Biography (please provide at least two paragraphs explaining your character's history to the present day):

When Kal-El was rocketed from Krypton 35 years ago, he wasn't sent alone. While Jor-El sent his son in an old scout ship; his brother Zor-El used experimental technology to save his fifteen year old daughter. The plan was to have her arrive on Earth first, using the time to set up a home for Kal and herself in this strange new world. Unfortunately, the experimental tech failed, and Kara's shortcut through the Phantom Zone was anything but. For the next 25 years, Kara Zor-El was stuck in stasis in that prison dimension. When Zod was sent back to the Phantom Zone, it reactivated Kara's ship and she finally was dislodged from the Phantom Zone.

She was caught off guard by the fact that her baby cousin was now older than she was, the infant she was sent to watch over and raise was now the experienced adult. Kara, overwhelmed, ran off before Clark could do much more than introduce himself. Lost and alone, she found herself in Midvale, California. It was there that she was found by 16 year old Alex Danvers. Crying and speaking an incomprehensible language, Alex took Kara home to her parents, Jeremiah and Eliza. It only took Clark a few hours to find his cousin, and they sat and talked for hours. Clark offered to talk to Ma, to see if Kara could live there, but Kara told him she'd like to stay with the Danvers, who had shown her great compassion in a time of great need.

For the next three years, Kara fought alongside her cousin, and became a great hero in her own right, standing outside of his large shadow. Metropolis and Midvale both had their own valued protectors. Then came the first Crisis. Kara was on the front lines with her cousin and the Justice League against the armies of Apokolips. As they drove back Steppenwolf, the true malevolence behind the invasion fired a parting shot. Beams of energy sprung from the boom tube Steppenwolf retreated through, bending every which way as they darted toward Superman. Not knowing what they were, but knowing she couldn't allow her cousin to be hurt, Kara dived in front of the beams at the last second. A great flash of light exploded from the point of contact and then... nothing. Worse than nothing, nobody remembered Kara even existed. Not Clark, not Ma, not Alex, Eliza or Jeremiah. Nobody on Earth, save one spiteful, malevolent telepathic Kandorian.

Continuing the Present:

For the next year, Kal-El continued to defend the Earth, never knowing that at one point he wasn't the planet's only Kryptonian protector. Then the unthinkable happened. Superman died. While Superman was gone, the one person who remembered Kara acted. Lesla Lar, a woman who had fled Kryptonopolis after being turned in for experiments that violated Science Council ethics codes. She changed her name from Shyla Kor-Onn to Lesla Lar to avoid being caught and sent to the Phantom Zone by Zor-El's wife, Alura. She was in Kandor when Brainiac attacked and stole the city. She, along with the other Kandorians were able to watch everything from their bottled city, and it was from there that Lesla discovered that their rescuers were the nephew and daughter of the two people she hated most in the world. Lesla's illegal genetic experiments had granted her a low level telepathy, and it was this gift that allowed her, and her alone to remember Kara Zor-El after she vanished from the universe. After Superman died, Lesla redoubled her efforts on escaping the bottled city, intent on destroying the legacy of the El name forever. Eventually, she succeeded, and claimed every aspect of Kara Zor-El's life, right down to finding the Danvers and becoming part of their family. For the last several years, Lesla has operated as Supergirl, just biding her time to strike to take down the El family name forever.

Elsewhen:

A flash of light and everything was different. Gone was the city of Metropolis and her friends and cousin. Instead she was surrounded by bright white and silver buildings with sky walkways and flying vehicles. Confused and disoriented, the 18 year old fainted. When she woke up, three unusually dressed teens were standing at her bedside. They questioned her as to why she was wearing Superman's costume, and she in turn asked them about their own costumes. They introduced themselves as Lightning Lad, Cosmic Boy, and Saturn Girl, the first three members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. They explained that 1,000 years ago the world had heroes, all inspired by Superman. They too had taken inspiration from that man, teaming up to save the life of billionaire philanthropist RJ Brande. He decided to provide funding for the three teens to expand their heroism to a club of others. The club had been christened the Legion of Super-Heroes, and now had ten members. They told her that while the first few years of Superman's career were well documented, records of that era ended with his death, and don't pick up for many more years, and there were no records of her at all. Despite this, they optimistically offered Kara a spot on the team, until they could find a way to get her home.

Over the next ten years, Kara fought alongside her new friends, saving the worlds of the United Planets countless times. She became especially close with Luornu Durgo and Tinya Wazzo, Triplicate Girl and Phantom Girl respectively; and after several years of flirting, she had been in a long term relationship with Querl Dox, the great-great grandson of interstellar despot and Superfamily foe, Brainiac. That relationship started with the first major threat the Legion faced. A ravenous creature known as a Sun-Eater was making a bee line for Sol, having already devoured the suns of five inhabited United Planets worlds. Teaming up with some of the greatest enemies they had fought previously for the good of the galaxy, the Legion sought to find a way to stop the beast. While the rest of the team and the villains that would soon become known as the Fatal Five fought the creature and bought time for another inhabited world to be evacuated, Brainiac 5 came up with an "Absorbatron" bomb that would destroy the beast. The only problem was that the only one who could deliver the bomb and possibly survive was Supergirl, and with the red sun radiation emanating from the beast, that was very much in question too. But Kara dove into the monster's gullet head first, never hesitating, never wavering from what needed to be done. However, new Legionaire Andrew Nolan, Ferro Lad, followed her in, using his ability to turn himself into iron to mitigate the radiation damage. As Kara grew weaker and weaker from the red suns the Sun-Eater had eaten, Ferro Lad took advantage of that fact and knocked her unconscious, using every last bit of his strength to throw her out of the beast's mouth and fly straight to it's heart, detonating the bomb and sacrificing his own life to save Earth and countless other worlds. Thinking he had lost the woman he loved, without ever telling her, as the bomb exploded Brainiac collapsed. Lost in his tears, he didn't even notice who's hands were on his shoulders to calm him. As he looked up, he saw the brilliant blue eyes of Kara Zor-El who had woken just in time to hear him anguish in his unspoken love, and as they embraced his tears turned to those of joy and relief, and the two kissed.

Despite knowing that it may well mean the end of their relationship, Brainiac 5 continued to endeavor to find a way to send Kara back to her own time, while they still contributed heavily to Legion missions. They fought time and again with the Fatal Five and the Legion of Super-Villains, with Mordru and a mysterious being known only as the Time Trapper. But their last two missions with the Legion would prove to be the most important ones they'd partake in. In a battle with the Legion of Super-Villains Cosmic King used his powers to turn a rock near Kara into a glowing red mineral. While like every other time they had fought, the Legion prevailed over their evil counterparts, Kara grew almost deathly ill, and her complexion turned almost crimson as she broke into a fever. Over the next several days, several of the other women of the Legion fell ill with similar symptoms. With approximately half the membership incapacitated, it was then that the Legion was attacked by a new foe, a woman with a demonic appearance. Calling herself Satan Girl, this woman made easy work of the rest of the Legion. It was again Briany that came up with the answer. This woman was in fact a part of his own girlfriend, separated from her by the red mineral that Cosmic King had presented to her. Analyzing it, he found it closely resembled Kryptonite, but slightly altered. Almost immediately, he came up with an antidote to it's effects, and Satan Girl was vanquished. Though Kara, and indeed most of the female Legionaires were saved from the Crimson Fever, Nura Nal, Dream Girl, was not strong enough to combat the illness. Blaming herself for Nura's death, Kara took a sabbatical from the Legion, and Brainiac did the same.

During their year away from the team, Brainy left his robot majordomo Computo to continue working on his experimental time bubble. This proved disastrous, as the machine's machinations became more and more disruptive and destructive over the course of that year. Fearing the total destruction of their base, the Legion tried to deactivate Computo, which the robot took as an attack and activated it's defense mechanisms. In the first counter attack, one of Luorna's doubles was killed, sending the other two into shock. A distress beacon was sent, and Kara and Brainy returned to find most of the Legionaires unconscious, while Computo continued his experiments. Seeing the dead body of her best friend, Kara flew at Computo in a rage, sending him flying into the control panel he was working on. The panel exploded in a brilliant flash of white light, and everything changed again...
