Ultimate Marvel

If Marvel would give the Ultimate universe some of its better talents like Brubaker, fraction, mark millar, alex maleev, steve mcniven, greg land, or even Djurdjevic, then the Utlimate U would have that "Oomph" that it really needs. But i really dont think marvel considers the Ultimate U a priority anymore considering everything thats going on currently in the 616.

Those guys have worked in the Ultimate Universe.

Ultimate Omega Red is still a chump.

Here's a point about realism. In real life, mercs are extremely dangerously, look at the people who work for Black water, do you think they would send mooks to Iraq? No, real mercs are highly trained and very cunning. In the UU, mercs are pathetic jokes. Seriously Red should have given Spidey a way tougher time, he was surrounded my potential hostages. Red should be dangerous to Spidey because he is more experience and better training, that way he would seem like a real merc, not a wannabe. If he was wannabe, no one would have hired him in the first place.

Compared to the 616 line, the Ultimate universe is considerably more realistic. They may be unrealistic in the sense of real world (obviously), but it's easier to imagine them as movies, something that's harder to expect from the cheesier 616 books (pre-Civil War).

And yet your avatar is based on an arc in the 616 verse that was extremely well done. Odd!

Ultimate Spider-Man could be done as flashbacks,

That's absolute nonsense.

You'd move so far away from the original story that it wouldn't be the same story. (hey MJ remember that time I unmasked to you, Hey venom remember that time you were product of my father and not alien etc etc etc)

Dunno, a lot of the criticism in this thread seems to stem from the ultimate universe being seen as threatening to the 616, which is probably why marvel adventures gets a pass.

Being unfamiliar with the series, I can only offer my opinion of flashbacks, which is to agree with you. Flashbacks can be good if used subtly, but there would be nothing to excuse excessive flashback sequences that would not really be reasonably sparked by any kind of interaction with the environment. It's not like Spidey, in the middle of a fight, would be reminded of yet another fight from years ago...

Come on gildea, come on. Marvel Adventures? When has the Marvel Adventures ever gotten the attention, press, talent level that the Ultimate Universe has gotten and still gets? Never. Marvel Adventures purpose is clearly defined, a line of comics aimed at younger kids. The Ultimate line was built around grabbing the same audience that the 616 Universe gets, teens and adults. Of course the Ultimate line is more threatening, or should I say was more threatening. It seems like all the big talent has moved away and are back where they belong, the 616. The only big name in the Ultimate Universe is Warren Ellis, and that's because he can **** up all the characters he wants and get away with it because it's Ultimate.:o

Exactly, Darthphere, all the good talent is being used in the 616. What i meant in my earlier post is that mcniven, land, and millar should be regulars in the ultimate u, to give it the edge it needs. But obviously marvel's not gonna waste its best talent on a secondary universe.

Except, y'know, Land and Millar were there at the UU's very beginning. Millar and Bendis pretty much created the universe together.

Yeah, all that talent kguillou mentions already made their mark on the Ultimate Universe and for guys like McNiven, it was just a stepping stone to bigger things. Millar already did X-Men, Ultimates and Fantastic Four to a lot of hype and praise and now he's doing it in the main universe to even bigger praise. There's nothing left to do in the Ultimate Universe.

Are we disagreeing here? Your tone suggests so but your content I agree with completely. (well other than bendis is still in the UU)

Be less angry.

There is still something that can be done with the UU, take convoluted or lame characters and make them more streamlined or interesting.

If Trapster is a goober in the 616 universe, make him dangerous in the UU.

They could do that, but again the problem is simply that Marvel doesnt care about the UU anymore so they're not gonna waste any great talent on it anymore. Why else woud they be letting Jeph Loeb write Ultimatum?

I've read Marvel Adventures and it is pretty good,it doesn't have the convulsed things 616 has..and as one person here once said "It isn't pressured by constant Marvel events." so it can just be a comic.

The Ultimate Universe is more realistic, which is a good and bad thing. I sometimes think the Iron Man movie's Tony Stark is based on Ultimate Iron Man...and speaking of that, when will Ultimate Hulk Vs Wolverine ever be finished?

Probably next year. All but one of the scripts are in, but Yu is busy with Secret Invasion at the moment.

Yeah the only problem there is no one gives a **** about the Trapster.

No one gave a **** about Luke cage or iron fist 5 years ago and now look at them. Mr. Fear used to be a laughable Daredevil villain, and now he's one of most dangerous. All it takes is a passionate writer and anybody can be redeemed.

No gave a **** about Mr. freeze till Bruce timm revamped him, now he's way better. No gave a **** about Cat man till gail Simone revamped him in villains United.

There are no bad characters, the uU allows someone to revamp a character who have been an interesting concept, but suffered from bad execution over the years.

Yeah, all those are 616 characters, so it really doesn't prove your point at all. Either way, lots of people gave a **** about Luke and Danny, nobody, I mean nobody is asking for the Trapster.

Way better at not showing up in any Batman comics for the last 5 years.

Yes, and Secret Six sells in the top 20 right? Why are you giving me examples from DC when we're talking about Marvel and Ultimate Marvel?

I used to believe that no bad characters ********, it's not true.

Come on admit it, you kind of give a **** about the Trapster.

If I gave a ratio of 100% ****, I would give like 3% ****.

No one is asking for Ultimate Trapster, but it would be an interesting challenge to see if someone is creative enough to do it.

Those are bad arguments, popularity does not equality quality. There tons of good movies that do poorly because were too busy watching the Dukes of hazard movie.

Anyway looking at the Marvel side, Mr. Fear and Purple man were lame villains, till the writers revamped them recently.

I used to believe that no bad characters ********, it's not true.

.

Well who is a fundamentally bad character, who can never be written well?
