Zen, imo, Jak 2 was good, but the idea of gunplay put it a notch beneath the original. I just didn't like it. Skilled close-quaters fights turned to mashing the one button, and spinning round for the entire game. If the guns had shown originality like Ratchet and Clank, it would have been better.

It also dropped the blue, yellow, and red eco powers, which was a huge mistake cause it make the game alot of fun. The dark eco was the best thing about 2.

Personally I liked the attitude in Jak 2. I don't want to say Ratchet and Sly were kiddy compared to it, but Jak was alot more mature.

Jak has always been much more... developed than Ratchet and Clank, which can come off as a little vapid.

I agree about the guns, but I never took issue with them because I didn't use them very much and when I did use them, I felt they ended up being really good and well thought out. I tried relying on them exclusively, and I agree that playing the game that way just isn't as fun. I really never missed the eco system either. To me it was the layered level design and more serious world that puts Jak II above Jak I, which was just very by the numbers. Nothing was really distinct, even the villains. The environments and platforming itself was great traditional fun, but I felt Jak II was much more inventive with its platforming and level design, I just missed the absurdly beautiful areas from the original.

I agree to an extent. I spose I just let the guns hurt the experience for me more than you did. God the first game looked good, the beach levels in the 2nd just teasted what it used to be.

Another thing I loved about jak 2 was the music. The music at that Water Pump Station was orgasmic.

I thought Jak 1 was an amazing game and one of the best platformers, I had played in a while at that point. I didnt like the changes, that the sequel have. It was as if they were trying to hard to follow the GTA3 bandwagon that alot of games to come out at the time were. Changing Jak to some wannabe gun toting bad ass was a bad idea IMO. The series lost the spark and appeal that it had going for it

To me Jak II had better gameplay, but my thoughts on it are well documented. Personally I liked Jak III a lot less because you could tell it was rushed and it incoporated a lot of fluff Ratchet and Clank style filler mini games.

The hell, Jak X is the best kart style racing game ever made. It 1 ups any itteration of Mario kart in everything but multiplayer.

of course not. I think the surprise might be that it looks like they are going forward with Uncharted 2 before doing the next Jak. I didnt expect for a sequel to come soon

I would love a new Jak and Daxter, maybe Uncharted 2 than Jak IV, then a new series, complete with an Uncharted 3 for the PS4?

it doesnt matter if there is a next Jak or not. My point is that there wont be until after Uncharted 2 is developed. After thats finished then the Jak series can resume or not, at least thats whats implied by the link
