Universal MCU: Hulk and Namor

I'd rather Namor appears to be the flat-out villain at first but then by the end of the movie is established as the anti-hero and also the result of prejudice, misunderstanding and fear.

Think "The devil in the dark" episode from Star Trek the original series. Or even the Klingons from the original series.

Would you say better opposite Avengers or FF? I think both's ties to the FF make it more interesting. Wonder if we'll have a Secret Wars big bash up a few years down the road???

If I had to choose, then the FF, but I think he should battle both. Maybe the Avengers have more of a conflict with him whereas the FF (well, specifically Reed) is the one who is able to discover that the surface world attacked Atlantis and were polluting the waters and that Namor was simply defending himself.

So you'd really need both to show how Namor is thought of as a villain initially. The Avengers battling him only entrenches his position and makes him think all surface dwellers are alike, whereas the FF are able to bring some resolution to the conflict.

Well , I have to say ,based on his history, I agree with you 100% Raven.
I showed plenty of examples of him fighting each member of the Avengers separately.
Thats not the reason why , but it helps making him the main villain in part one and establishes him a bit in the MCU.
Then maybe in part 2 (& 3) , he could be the anti-hero helping the Avengers.

something to keep in mind too is that Mark would absolutely nail the tortured Bruce. I know some have mentioned he is too chill an actor to capture that pent up rage bubbling under the surface (although I would say his performance in Avengers captures that reasonably well), but I would point towards the show "I Know This Much is True" if you want to see how he can totally nail the rage that exists within Banner.

I would rather he just move on and Marvel leave the Hulk alone. You can’t even qualify that character we got in endgame as smart hulk because truthfully he was a bumbling idiot! Still just there for comic relief!

It’s just sad the liberties that Fiege, the Russo’s and The writers took with the character. It’s done now though so hopefully they will just leave him be and focus on their new crop of heroes. I really would love to see it go the other way. Hulk exit the MCU and just have a stand-alone movie for universal down the line. Maybe Hulk 2 totally disconnected from the MCU . I would love for Norton to come back as it just looks as if he put in the time to study and know the character vs Ruffalo who had him walking like an ape in avengers one, and comic relief the rest of the movies.

We already know Ruffallo is in She-Hulk. So they are not done with him.

Maybe his (Hulk's) involvement in the Disney+ series means he is taking a back seat from the major MCU films for now.

Some internet research on the Hulk ownership in movies :
Since Universal owns the distribution rights to Hulk movies and hasn't agreed to a standalone movie since The Incredible Hulk, Marvel can only use the character in movies where he's either part of an ensemble or not the main character. This means since The Incredible Hulk, his story has only been able to be told in Avengers movies & Thor 3, so the character could only be so much of the focal point.

We already know Ruffallo is in She-Hulk. So they are not done with him.

Also rumors of:

Thunderbolt Ross, which isn't surprising and Betty Ross. What is surprising is that Thunderbolt would be Red Hulk according to the rumors.

We already have Abomination on She Hulk.

to clarify, they can make a movie but they will have to pay Universal which Disney doesn’t want to do. So they can but they won’t

Yea Marvel can make a Hulk movie but Universal has rights for first refusal. Meaning Marvel would have to go to Universal first and give them first dibs to see if they wanted to distribute the movie, before they are legally allowed to take it elsewhere (i.e. Disney). Universal would obviously say yes we'll distribute it.

But the question is could Marvel do another live-action Hulk show besides She-Hulk? I mean I don't think Universal has dibs on live-action television rights as far as I'm concerned.

It would be good, if the TV rights to a live action Hulk was owned by Marvel.
Then He can either have his own show, like the origial Bill Bixby series or at least have full episodes of only him in other Marvel Disney+ series.

As far as I'm aware, Universal doesn't have any say for TV. I'm pretty sure the cancelled Hulk show for ABC was being done without their involvement.

Well they did to Sony for Spider-man, so why cant a similar agreement be made with Universal for Hulk?

To repeat ,they made an agreement for Spider-man with Sony......so I am sure Universal & Marvel/Disney can do the same with the Hulk somehow.

Different situations. As long as Sony keeps making Spider-Man movies every few years, they keep the rights. Sony doesn't technically need Disney but they were in a jam after ASM2 was not the financial success they hoped it would be and the email hack debacle. They needed a solution to make money which is why they entertained the idea with Disney. After the first deal ended, they continued with the 2nd one as both companies saw the financial benefits.

Universal can't make a Hulk movie own their own and it makes no financial sense for Disney to have to have a competitor distribute one of their movies, when they can still use the Hulk in other ways (Avengers and team up movies, She-Hulk tv show, etc...). I guarantee you if Disney had a way to still use Spider-Man and not have to work with Sony, they would. We probably wouldn't get any Spider-Man solo movies, but he'd be popping up in a lot more places.

Based off of Ruffalo's past comments, it seems they have tried and we're unsuccessful. At this point it seems like Disney is just waiting for Universal's rights to expire. Based off of speculation from the Curious Case of Spider-Man & Hulks Rights thread on this same forum, it seems that could potentially be happening in the next 2-4 years. And if that its indeed correct, it makes no sense for Disney to make a deal now, when they just have to wait a few more years.

spider-man is a billion dollar character and Hulk is not

If thats true, then Disney is being short sighted with Hulk's potential.

He has many interesting dynamics to his charcter that can put him in Marvel's superstar stautus.

Nah it’s all business sadly. Same with universal, they could sell the character back to marvel but they’re probably asking something crazy like billions of dollars which just isn’t viable

Honestly, I tend to think there isn't any asking, crazy or not. Hulk distribution rights are too small potato for Marvel Studios to *really* care about, not when they have a million other characters and can still use the Hulk as supporting cast. So Universal just doesn't even bother, because they know they have negligible leverage, and there isn't much they could plausibly ask Disney for in exchange other than "a token sum too small to be worth the lawyers' time". I mean, I suppose they could want theme park related rights, but they probably figure ( rightly IMO ) that Disney is never going to give any ground there.

Basically, Disney isn't asking because its not important, and Universal isn't asking because the only thing they could get for it is *also* not important. So it just sits, until some future point where they are negotiating over other bigger issues, where it might get thrown in as bargaining chip.

I do think it’ll happen one day, just not for crazy amounts of money like Universal are offering at the moment. For all we know there might be a disclosure that they need to keep making films to keep the rights which could be a good or bad thing. Good if it comes back, bad if they just keep making cheap movies to keep the rights

Rumor: Tenoch Huerta is Namor appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

I want to see the Sub-Mariner interact with the First Family and the Mutants in a Marvel film event.

Yeah we’re long overdue for him. He always slices things up. Hopefully they’ve sorted the rights issues
