US state Laws about OTF Joker Knife

What the hell do you wanna carry a switchblade around for, anyway? Do you feel threatened?

HAHA. Some places in NYC you wouldn't mind carrying one around. With that said, and living in NYC, I can honestly say I don't need to when you have the guns I do *flexes* :oldrazz:

"Stop calling your arms guns!"

I've never felt the need to carry a knife nor debate the legalities of carrying one....maybe it's because I don't have feelings of inadequacy or insecurity to the point where I feel the need to carry a weapon on me at all times...
... Well when some of us who conduct illegal activity we usually do have insecurity from the time wake up till we go to sleep, and also those who have the anxiety gene, it may help a bit to carry a knife, just one less thing to worry about. In Michigan it's legal to posses but not carry, I'm only 16 and I've carried switchblade knives since I was 12 so its just a habit to grab it on the way out.

Wait...did you register just to post on a 4 year old topic? I didn't even know you could go back that far.

However, I will say very interesting that it isn't illegl in my state, as long as it isn't concealed. How exactly do I do that? Hand carry it everywhere, get a case to attach to my belt?

Illegal for me in VA< just like everything else here.

You can carry a close relative (I'm forgetting the name right now): it's a roll-type blade that's similar to a box cutter but it comes out much faster. It doesn't contain a spring, so it's legal.

hey, here in Chile it's illegal carying almost any knife, but i've been carrying various kinds of blades (knives, switchblades, balisongs, tacticals, even corvo) since 12 (i'm 35 now)

You people seriously do believe you're living in a comic book, don't you?

You are aware that knives are effective tools, as well, right? People can carry knives without even remotely thinking about it in terms of a weapon or out of need for self defense. I know I do.

I can not remember a single situation that I've run into where a knife-as-tool would have been the answer. I can't imagine it would come up often enough that you need to carry a switchblade with you everywhere you go. Is there a lot of car hot-wiring, air vent unscrewing, emergency bullet removal, or whittling in your chosen profession?

I carry a pocket knife. It's nothing big, just a pocket knife. It comes in handy from time to time. I don't keep it for self-defense purposes. I'm 6'5" and close to 300lbs. I don't really get bothered.

You must not work outside much. I use my knife for cutting banding, opening boxes, removing splinters, opening packaging, scraping, cutting fishing line, cutting rope, cutting tubing, cutting wiring etc. My knife is my go to do it all tool, and I've carried one since I was 18 when my father gave me my knife. Its a family tradition to buy the boy a pocket knife at 18. Even when I don't need my knife I never leave home without it. I really don't know any male in my area who doesn't carry a pocket knife. Even the most boring guys in my area carry one. We don't do it because its a weapon of defense. That's what sub-compact guns and carry permits are for. We do it because a pocket knife is a tool.

A knife designed to be a weapon for defense or survival would be a boot knife or a push knife.

So wait...basically what you're saying is that "the life I live and the activities/work that I do has no need for it, therefore no one else has a need for it as well." How close-minded is that? I also find it very telling (and funny) that your examples for a knife's use are all action movie tropes....and terry said those WITH knives are the ones living in a comic book film. :oldrazz:

I always carry a chainsaw with me, it comes in handy ..... in zombie invasion.

Great, what we need, a bunch of insecure thug wannabes looking for a moronic excuse to brandish/showoff this thing, cause they saw it in a freakin movie.

I knew someone (friend of a friend type deal) that drove his car into a canal and he couldn't get his seat belt off. He had a pocket knife and was able to cut himself free. I mean, I don't know why he had the knife on him in the first place but in this case, it was helpful.

Also any law that prohibits us from owning a weapon will result in the bad guys having guns while the law abiding citizens get robbed.

..or it will make the number of people with easy access to guns significantly smaller, thereby making it a lot less likely for someone to decide to do armed robbery or a school shooting or whatever?!

..or both!

Heck I could drive twenty minutes either direction from my house and get a gun under the table if I wanted to. Illegal sale of guns wont be stopped by new gun laws. Not immediately anyways. If we stop the manufacturing of AR-15s today in ten years there will be less than there would be if we didnt stop sales but another gun will fill its place. The black market works off of supply and demand. Until the world as a whole changes there will always be demand for them and there will always be someone somewhere to supply. So taking guns from the civillians and law abiding citizens wont accomplish a thing. The criminals will still get guns.

Now I do agree that there is little to no reason for a civillian to own a gun like an AR-15. Yeah they are convenient, wonderful guns, and a blast to shoot, but we are civillians and for our uses a standard long rifle will do just fine.
