The Amazing Spider-Man Van Atter's (Irffan Khan) part in the storyline?

Nick Fury in Ultimate is black.

But yes...the race/ethnicity of a minor character really doesn't matter. Heimdheil (sp?) is white but Idris Elba was awesome in that movie and I hope his role is a lot bigger in the second.

Yeah, well Kingpin isn't black and neither is Nick Fury, but you wouldn't know that from Daredevil and Iron Man. So what's your point?

I'm aware of Nick Fury's color in the regular comics, but Nick Fury is black in the Ultimate comics, so that's at least based on something. But yeah, I know Kingpin has never been black in the comics.

So, this kind of stuff happends when characters get translated into these films, but why is Irffan Khan's character's name Van Atter instead of Nels Van Adder?

If he would be white and would have a different name it wouldn't bother me, or if he would have the same name but black skin, but these things together make me wonder if this character is related to Nels Van Adder at all.

Yeah I'm aware of that yes, and this kind of stuff doesn't usually bother me, but the fact that he doesn't look like the character and doesn't even have the correct name makes me wonder if this Van Atter character is related to Nels Van Adder at all

Nels Van Adder literally appeared in ONE issue, and it was a flashback issue where he didn't even interact with Spider-Man. He was just a random guy and the only point of his existence was to tell a story to further illustrate how much of a jerk Norman Osborn is. They can change whatever they want about him. Irffin Khan's character is basically an original character, they just randomly gave him the name of a (very) minor comics character as a nod to the fans/comics. I don't understand why people care so much about the character "staying true" to the Nels Van Adder of the comics when Nels Van Adder was so very minor, unimportant, and forgotten.

I still feel like he's just going to be some random lab assistant who has like three lines in the movie.

Role could be similar to Dr. Mendell Stromm's in Spider-Man - very minor, but there nonetheless

Do we even know if the character will be Nels Van Adder? The name of the character in the movie is Van Atter.
I mean, I don't question why they got an indian dude to play him even though Nels Van Adder was white in the comics, but why would they change the name? Copyright issues? If not, I don't really understand why they would change the name like that

Just to clarify things at imdb they have his character as Nels Van Adder / Proto-Goblin

I'm aware of that. But as many people know, imdb isn't reliable. I mean, one time there was actually written that Aunt May would be Carnage in Spiderman 4...
And while it still could be Nels Van Adder, it was just Van Atter in the official announcement. The character being same as Nels Van Adder is purely just a rumor right now

Don't believe what IMDB says, haha.

It could have very well said "...as Nels Van Adder/Butthole Surfer" and it would mean nothing.

IMDB can be unreliable sometime. Just have to verify with a reliable source/site before we can believe what IMDB has posted. lol

Definitely a small role for Irffan. Likely a scientist either working on the Oz serum, the spider, or maybe a colleague of Peter's parents that turned on them.

It'd be SUCH a great setup for the next movie if he mentions how he and Norman Osborn are working on a secret formula/serum. :D

especially for a reboot, it would be unfortunate and somewhat sloppy if the writers didnt put certain elements into this film that would pay off in a future film or the direct sequel. the original trilogy only had harrys story arcing through them, the rest was just kinda written at some point after the prior film was a success. i like seeing the oscorp building in set photos so far cuz it makes me think they will lead to greater things in the next one. the 2002 film kinda put their foot in their mouth by using the arch villain for the origin story. then ock was tech based and then the 3rd film they got all fantasy based with aliens and that version of sandman. the fact that they are using the lizard for the first film makes me feel better because at least we are getting a fantasy based film to start with and then we can move into the more dark mechanical versions of characters, like green goblin and hopefully thats what this characters part in the story is for

I totally agree. And if they want to make this new trilogy great, they just have to have the Green Goblin as a villain at some point as he is Spidey's arch enemy.
Btw, imdb says that Michael Massee is gonna play Norman Osborn in the movie. Now I know imdb is not reliable, but the site has been right many times

Lets see, how can I explain this. It appear that we are getting two relating; but, competing stories… simultaneously. Both that appear to not only be setting precedence for the eventual appearance of Norman, and the Green Goblin, in some future film; but, some other relating, interesting side bar that I really can‘t fully explain. Neither less, the relating stories involving both Lizard and Proto Goblin, be it separately(era), will give rise, and set up future consequence. Adder/PG will have a significant role, and I see why Khan may be excited about the script.

If what I think I see is true, I must say, brilliant execution by Webb and company(Sargeant, Kloves, and my man Vanderbilt).

You're saying that the film has Proto-Goblin? But didn't Irffan Khan say that he didn't want to be another monster or a masked villain? To me that pretty much says no go for protogoblin

Not exactly, what he don't want to do and what he contractibly required to do is two different things... otherwise, he would be recast. He has to follow what the script requires of him; as far as, the flow of what the direction of the story is. I do see Proto-Goblin in this film; but, don't confuse it being a villain that Spidey fights... more likely, his parents.

Remember, I said I see two relating; but, competing stories... separately(era: different periods of time). Inadvertently leading to the experiment creating Lizard, and definitely leading to the formula creating the super soldier performance enhancers leading to Green Goblin. The Parkers may have sacrificed their life(in this rendition) to prevent the future events in this film. Follow what I'm saying.

yes, but, if he feels that strongly about it, he probably wouldn't of signed a contract, that would require him to do such things
and probably made his feels on it clear before signing, an I am sure he didn't sign without reading the script first...

My thoughts exactly. Besides, I think they have learned from Spiderman 3 to not cram too many villains to the films, and Proto-Goblin and the Lizard together could be way too much for the first film
