Video Killed the Radio Star... What killed Video?

but that's what MTV used to be for. I know that here in Canada you have to pay extra to get "MuchMusic" on cable, and even more for "MuchMoreMusic". I know that "Much" doesn't seem to play much music anymore... I'm not sure about "MuchMore".
MTV used to stand for Music Television but now it's become Moronic Television. And VH1 has followed suit. MTVHits? We have to pay extra for that? Eff it! The programs now shown on these two once-music-tv makes me sad... and nauseous.

remember my "The day Streaming music died" thread?

it's all there

Oh yeah....that's right! You get the message stating that it's unavailable in countries outside the United States.

I HATE music companies. Their greed will be what does them in though, eventually.

I've never liked music videos at all. To me, music has always been an audio experience. So why would I want to watch a video that just has the same studio cut playing in the background? If I want to watch the music, I'll go on youtube and watch concerts where the song is changed and not exactly the same as the studio cut.

Then again, I don't like singles and Greatest hits either, so maybe I'm just weird.

Yes, you're weird. I actually go looking for "Greatest Hits" or "Best of" compilations. Saves me having to buy dozens of albums to get the 12 best songs by an artist or group of artists.

some of the newer reality shows on mtv are down right creepy, "my very own" etc

in regards to the "best of," you're letting someone else make that determination for you.

Stupid is more like it, especially those dating shows. I hate that some of the people that go on Reality shows become celebs because of it.

Didn't FUSE recently stop showing more videos also?

You don't see music videos on T.V. very often anymore. A few here and there, but honestly they seem to be getting rare. Replaced by "reality" and "game" shows, movies and T.V. serieses too. Why? Wasn't there a market for videos? Would you prefer to see a music video on MTV / Much or "Ghost" for the upteenth time?

"Video" well that is still going. VHS is dead.

I think that the people that work at MTV knows that the stuff they show is crap, they just won't say anything to the people in charge because they think it's good programming.

Best of Compilations are based on highest volume of sales... so yeah, I'm letting what sells the best make my decision for me... but I also pick up the Juno albums too... so there I'm letting the music industry professionals make the choice for me. If I enjoy their choices, what does it matter? I always read the album lists before buying to make sure I like at least 2 songs on there.

Well half of MTV is not even about music anymore, it has become a teen drama channel with shows like Made.

I knew the music video was dead when VH1 fell into the same trap as MTV. There was a point where I could say "MTV's not airing music videos anymore, but at least I can still watch VH1. Oh look, Pop-Up Video is on!" Then VH1 reduced themselves to E!-lite, airing nothing but crap that glamorizes celebrities and clip shows with random comedian commentary.

Re: "Best of" collections...
I hunt "best of" CDs down by whether or not they have all of my favorite songs on it, already. I've yet to nail the perfect Jackson 5 collection (is it too hard to add "Stop! The Love You Save"?)

Video killed the Radio star, Youtube killed the Video star :D

Used to be a time when MTV would break new bands and artists. But MTV got out of touch and lost its balls. They don't have the guts to show any music video's outside of the mainstream anymore.
